2024 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500 Complaints and Recall Information

The 2024 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500 has 10 complaints and 3 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues involving transmission valve body failures, brake system malfunctions when towing trailers, and problems with the infotainment system. Other complaints cover stalling, hesitation during shifting, and noises from the rear suspension components.

Common Issues

  • Transmission failure. Valve body in the 10-speed automatic transmission fails, causing limp mode activation on the freeway and reduced vehicle speed. Replacement parts and transmissions are reportedly unavailable.
  • Brake system problems. Spongy brakes requiring the pedal to be pushed to the floor, especially while towing, with trailer brakes taking most of the stopping load. Some complaints mention the truck disabling trailer brakes during braking attempts.
  • Trailer brake disablement. The vehicle may display a "Trailer Brakes Disabled" message and fail to activate trailer brakes despite prior module installations and dealer inspections.
  • Infotainment failures. Audible signals like turn indicators and warnings fail, and OnStar service connection issues persist despite multiple dealer reprogramming attempts.
  • Fuel system faults. High-pressure fuel pump and fuel pump control module failures cause hesitation, stalling, and transmission shifting problems requiring multiple repairs.
  • Rear suspension noise. A chunking noise linked to movement between the anchor plate and axle assembly occurs persistently, with dealers re-torquing leaf spring joints but the condition reoccurring.

Three recalls affect the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500, focusing on electronic tailgate latch components and the steering system. These recalls address potential safety hazards involving unintended tailgate unlatching and steering gear shaft fractures.

Recalls

  • Power-unlatching tailgate latch (N232426400). Applies to over 570,000 vehicles, including 2024 models. The exterior tailgate switch may short circuit due to water intrusion, causing the tailgate to unlatch while parked. This risks unsecured cargo falling off and creating road hazards. Dealers will replace the touchpad switch assemblies free of charge.
  • Expanded tailgate latch recall (N242469160). Affects approximately 131,000 vehicles and expands the previous recall. The same water intrusion issue can cause inadvertent tailgate unlatching. Free replacement of switch assemblies by dealers is provided. Owners are advised to ensure the tailgate is securely closed before driving.
  • Steering gear shaft fracture (N232414720). Covers nearly 4,000 vehicles. The steering gear shaft may fracture and disconnect from the steering arm, leading to total loss of steering control and increased crash risk. Dealers will inspect and replace faulty steering gear components at no cost.

Owners facing repeated transmission or brake system repairs, steering defects, or unresolved recall repairs on the 2024 Silverado 3500 may have rights under their state lemon laws. Consult appropriate legal counsel to evaluate potential claims.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

When driving my truck and towing a trailer which has elec. over hyd. brakes and trying to stop. My truck will disable my brakes on my trailer, which may weigh 3+ times the weight of my truck. GM had a recall on the truck brake module which fixed my problem. Then l took my truck back for an oil change a few months later and they said that there is a open recall on the brake module (NEWER UPDATE) which once again caused my brake issues again with the newer recall. l have opened up a complaint with GM and they say take it to a GM dealer. The dealer checks the truck out and says there is no problem with the truck. They tell me that l need to install a module on my trailer ,which l did early on with the problem. l did own a 2017 chevy and pulled that trailer with NO issues. The trailer dealer hooked the trailer to a 2018 GMC and a 2016 Dodge pick-up. And had NO problem with the trailer brakes and put a NYS inspection sticker on my trailer LAST MONTH. We !! the trailer dealer and myself have spoken to the company ( brake module) that GM says that l need. This trailer brake module which the trailer dealer installed in Feb 2024 still did not fix my problem. The brake module company told me GM has His words a HORNETS NEST problem with this issue. Someone is going to loose there brakes and KILL somebody or a family Thank You for any HELP [XXX] Please contact with any feedback or info INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

SERVICE BRAKES

The brakes on this vehicle are very spongy, they have to be pushed all the way to the floor to get the vehicle to stop. When pulling a trailer you are on pins and needles wondering if you can get the truck to stop. The trailer brakes are doing most of the stopping. I have owned many trucks and the brakes on this 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 are the worst that I have ever experienced. This is a Safety hazard with serious implications. I have talked to many other people with the same truck and they also claim that the brake system is faulty and/or sub standard. I have taken my truck back to the dealer and they claim that the brakes are working normal (test driving around their service lot). This is a serious problem that needs to be investigated by your orginazation. Thank you in advance for any insight on this serious brake issue.

POWER TRAIN

The valve body failed on my transmission. My safety was impacted because as I was towing my 40 foot camper and my vehicle went into limp mode on the freeway at 70 miles an hour and I could only go 45 with four children in the vehicle. Yes the problem has been confirmed by a local dealership. There was a check engine light present, but eventually it went away and the truck returned to normal. This has happened one time before as well.
