General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, 3500, GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 vehicles equipped with power-unlatching tailgates. The tailgate's electronic gate-release switch may short circuit due to water intrusion, which can result in the tailgate inadvertently unlatching while the vehicle is in park.

Risk: An unlatched tailgate may open while driving and result in a loss of unsecured cargo, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, Silverado 3500, GMC Sierra 2500, and Sierra 3500 vehicles with electronic brake control modules (EBCM) replaced during vehicle assembly. The bolts that attach the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) assembly may not be properly tightened, which could fail to seal the two sub-assemblies and allow water intrusion.

Risk: Water in the BPMV may cause an electrical short circuit and increase the risk of fire.

SERVICE BRAKES

While driving on the freeway in a construction zone, I smelled a burning oil smell. I considered the possibility it was in relation to road repairs being done (roads being repaved, ie tar resurfacing). I was cut off by another vehicle and depressed my brakes and I saw a poof of smoke over the front passenger area near tire. I noticed all of my gauges were in the normal ranges (temperature, battery voltage, etc.) In less than a minute my truck went into limp mode and advised it had a DEF system issue and it would be limited to a set MPH and a set number of miles. Check engine light came on and another driver alerted me that the underneath of my vehicle was on fire. I pulled over to the side of the highway and my truck became engulfed in flames in. Truck is under factory warranty, unmodified, never been in an accident and has had all recommended services performed at local dealership. There was a significant amount of traffic and luckily I did not collide with anyone or set neighboring dry grass field on fire. Fire department responded and extinguished the fire, but it is a total loss. Insurance company has been notified, and vehicle will be available for inspection by appropriate agencies. While local law enforcement did respond, they did not take a report because I didn't hit anything, and the only property damage was my own. (There is documentation of the event, but just dispatch notes.) Prior to the situation above the truck had been at operating temperature for at least 20 minutes and I had traveled for about 20 miles on the highway. The total distance traveled from when I smelled the burning smell was maybe 1.5 miles.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Vehicle was brought to Lone Star Chevrolet in Houston on 6/16/2025 because Tailgate would not open with the button and only would open with the fob. They stated no parts to fix and did not advise of the severity of risk from the recall when picked truck up. Saturday afternoon [XXX] while leaving a parking lot and driving on the feeder road the tailgate opened resulting in the large ice chest that was full of water bottles ice and and storage containers with food to fall on road along with battery power fan and several extra batteries. These items unexpectedly sliding down the feeder resulted in several cars making defensive maneuvers nearly resulting in several crashes and the ice chest bumping 1 vehicle. All lanes of traffic stopped and several people helped to pick up the debris off the road. No information from people who stopped was collected, and no report from driver of truck that hit cooler. SERVICE BRAKES

While towing our camper, the trailer brakes constantly turn off and on. The camper dealer already checked over the camper wiring, and hooked it to Ford and Ram tow vehicles and could not replicate the problem. The problem is obviously with my Silverado. For the additional details below; - The approximate date is Anytime and Everytime we tow the camper. - There could be a crash anytime the trailer brakes turn off. - A crash due to no trailer brakes Could cause a fire. - An injury or fatality would be highly likely if the trailer brakes "disconnect" at the wrong time causing a crash, with or without fire. - There would most certainly be a police report if any of the above happened.

STEERING

When vehicle is placed in park the safety lock will not allow the key to turn to the "off" position and be removed. The vehicle will not turn "off" any further than the accessory position. Sometimes after turning the steering wheel back and forth while working the ignition the key will release. If this does not work after a minute or so, sometimes you can start the truck and immediately turn it all the way off and get the key to release. If all of that fails the last option is to disconnect the battery. It is an intermittent issue that will happen 5 times a day for a week, and then will not replicate again for a week or two.

TIRES

I was driving to an event and I noticed my truck was pulling slightly. As I pulled onto the freeway and accelerated, I felt and heard a thumping sound but could not distinguish it between the pattern in the freeway or an issue with a tire. I continued to accelerate and the tire blew at about 55 mph. I was pulling a 5th wheel in a construction zone and was not immediately able to safely pull off the roadway. Extensive damage was done to the body of the truck with a current estimate at $4,832.18. The rim and tire were also destroyed with the rim being valued at $841.08 and tire at $408.

I started to her a light tapping in engine and also noticed smoke color coming from exhaust when I used the remote start and at other time. Truck has been going through a quart of oil or more at roughly 3400 miles before the 5000 miles before the service is actually due. Spoke to dealership several times and they say that is normal. Called GM directly and filed a complaint.Never had a vehicle that needed oil before service was due. That’s not normal. I feel like I’m getting the run around

Tire = LT275/65R20. After 20 minutes on surface streets in 98° weather, entered freeway and heard a "thumping" sound every second at about 45 mph. Appeared to be the freeway but after accelerating to about 55 mph a loud bang was heard and the tire blew. This was a catastrophic failure where the tread fully separated from the wheel and did substantial damage to the side and wheel well of the truck. The rim was also damaged beyond repair.

POWER TRAIN

I have a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD diesel truck. Twice while driving uphill the transmission seemed to lock up with a very “jerky” move. GM has acknowledged this problem and has issued a recall. I have taken my truck and have had the recall “remedy” performed. However, THIS REMEDY IS A BAND AID NOT A SOLUTION. The remedy/recall is only reprogramming the computer that controls the transmission to warn the driver that the problem is about to occur and will limit the speed of the vehicle to not exceed the fifth gear until the problem is repaired. I feel the transmission issue should be addressed in the recall not delayed until the issue re-occurs. As per a letter I received from GM the repair that’s needed is Special Coverage N232395330 is the replacement of Transmission Valve Body.

Repeated shift to park message even when in park. Resulting in many hours of shutting off and on, shifting between gears to get it to recognize it is in park. Dealership where purchased is trying to convince me it's a $700 fix with no recall. It is a known GM problem. This blatant disregard for proper repairs is costing GM customers thousands in additional repair for their gross negligence as well as endangering the safety of its customers. It additionally results in draining the battery, starter and transmission problems. GM needs to be held accountable since they know it is an issue.
