i have a 2024 Silverado 6.2L. while driving the engine made some scratching/chirping sounds. then it felt like the wheels locked up momentarily. when i got pulled over the engine was chirping and slightly knocking. then the engine stalled. I know there is an active recall for 2021 to 2024 L87 6.2L engines, but the recall did not show up on my vin. everything i read states that any L87 produced after June of 2024 was not affected but my engine is damaged just like the ones in the recall.

ENGINE

07/28/2025 10:35am, We had just pulled onto an Interstate ramp and the engine powered down and the dashboard began flashing errors, service engine soon light came on. The following errors were displayed: Reduce speed to 62 mph, brake system failure, Service traction control, Service ESC, Service steering column lock, Trailer brakes disabled service required. I had no brakes and had to pump them to get stopped. I was able to pull to the side of the road and shut off the engine. I called dealer and reported issue as this occurred last Tuesday. They advised to bring the vehicle in at 0800 tomorrow. I restarted the vehicle and system reset and I was able to continue. At 12:58pm, I pulled off the interstate ramp onto a county road and the engine powered down again and displayed the same errors. The brakes did not fail this time and I was able to get home.

On Tuesday we pulled out into traffic and the truck shuddered and I heard a pop. The air conditioner went out and then a plethora of warnings along with the service engine light popped up on the dash. The brakes stopped working and the truck went into a low idle almost causing the vehicle behind us to rear end us. Error messages were as follows: Brake failure do not go above 62mph, trailer brake failure, steering column needs serviced, service ecs and several others. I was able to get the vehicle back home and called for service at Green Chevy in Peoria, IL I was able to shut the vehicle off and restart it and all error codes were gone. I spoke with the dealer and took it to them. They advised it was a module issue and would reprogram it. It took 2 days and my vehicle is back.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

DEF System will count miles down saying it is going to put you into limp mode while towing, when there is 3/4 plus DEF fluid in the tank. This caused me several times speed slow downs under 65 to try to make it to a safe place to add under 2 gallons to fill a 5 plus gallon tank on 70 to 80 mph highways a few times at dusk and night with limited off off travel lane access! This is telling you it will put your vehicle in limp mode! Again causing a dangerous situation! I very much feared for my well-being along a dark road with cars going 70 plus while I was trying to add DEF to a 3/4 full tank only taking around 2 gallons!!

There is no sound from the entertainment system, this happens randomly about once a week. The Safty concern is that when this happens there is no sound for anything including directionals, other warnings and this can cause a Safty issue. The only way to have the system work again is to shut the vehicle off for ten minutes and restart. My vehicle has had the software updated at the dealership about every three months since I purchased it, and to no avail.

We took our vehicle to Weber Chevrolet in Granite City, Il on June 26 for an oil change. My husband and I purchased the vehicle on [XXX] from this dealership. We asked if they could put a heavier oil in the vehicle due to this being as one of the remedial fixes for the recall. The service department manager informed us that they would not be able to do this due to it voiding our warranty. They could not give a general answer as to when they will address the recall. My husband and I have safety concerns about taking this vehicle cross country for a family vacation at the end of July. We have decided to trade the vehicle in for a different model due to the uncertainty of the recall. Appallingly, no dealership, including the Chevy dealership we bought it from , is willing to take our 9 month old truck as a trade. We were informed by three separate dealerships that the car is basically worthless and they are not willing to have it sit on their lots depreciating until the recall is complete. It is completely unacceptable that we, as consumers, are stuck with a vehicle that has a potential safety risk. The car has already depreciated by $10,000 according to Kelly Blue Book. We have filed a complaint with the BBB, Illinois States Attorney Office, and with General Motors. General Motors informed me on July 2 that they will not address the recall until an issue occurs. If an issue occurs then they will address it at that time. Furthermore , they are not willing to buy the vehicle back, attempt to see if the engine is fine, nor willing to allow us to trade for another GMC vehicle. We are at a loss as far as our safety, loss of investment, and lack of any help from General Motors. I am adding screen shots of my communication with the general manager from Weber Chevrolet, jimmy Mckechan. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

6.2 L engine around 7500 miles engine light came on, it was slow to startup, would shutter during idel. Driving home on the highway the truck turned off cruise control and front impact warning then it came back on about 5 miles down the road. At the same time the truck was shaking and shuttering. Took it into the shop the next day and so far is having at least one maybe 2 cylinders misfiring. Also, since I bought it the axle locks keep saying to service them, take the truck to the dealership and they can't find anything wrong with them. The only way to get the indicator to stop dinging incessantly is to active the axle locks and deactivate them and that will make it stop dinging for about a week.

Valve body needs to be replaced. The truck is still under warranty. I have taken it to the dealership, they ordered the part and told me it was safe to drive in limp mode. I've since been waiting a month for the part to come in without a replacement vehicle. I can't drive to work and am losing quite a bit of business. There is a valve body in stock 97 miles away and GM will not ship it to my local dealer or help me in any way. The truck will not make it 97 miles for the repair. The check engine light stays on for a few days and goes off. I can only drive about 10 miles before it goes into limp mode and the dash will tell me I have reduced acceleration and to drive safely. As far as the safety of me and others UNKNOWN. The dealer has confirmed there is an issue but insists I continue to drive it even though I'm damaging the transmission.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

On 7 or 8 occasions while navigating parking lots/driveway turnaround, i bumped the resume switch on the steering wheel and the truck took off accelerating rapidly from 2-4 mph speed until I disengaged with the brake. Someone with slower reactions or unaware of what is going on is going to get hurt by this. I believe it's tied to collision avoidance system and the adaptive cruise control mode. This system will allow cruise to stay engaged even as it slows you to a halt in, e.g. a rush hour slowdown, but if it slows you to some speed just greater than zero, and the traffic ahead speeds up, it will speed back up to the cruise setting. Similarly, when cruise is disengaged by brake action, but there is still a stored value in cruise control, if you accidentally hit resume at slow speeds the logic is treating it like a traffic situation. So the old 20 or 25mph minimum engagement speed no longer applies. As for why I inadvertently hit resume, it has to do with the raised momentary rocker switch at the 9 oclock position on the steering wheel. If you make a turn with your palm against steering wheel. For example, on a left turn, if the wheel is turning counterclockwise and your left palm is in the 9 o'clock position, it can rub against the raised cruise control rocker triggering the resume function, and off she will go! A flush or recessed button/switch would have been a better choice here. At this point, a software change would be the best solution to ignore the resume function below a certain speed.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

POWER TRAIN

My Silverado has what seems to be a known issue with recent model Silverados which is a broken/blown valve body at the transmission. The week of the failure, my truck began having rough shifting from first to second gear first thing in the morning, but would be fine after that. Two days later this progressed to all of the gears and nearly stranded me and my kids on the interstate due to not being able to maintain speed. I got the truck to the dealership where they looked up diagnosis code and told me it was the valve body and it would require replacing. Unfortunately, the part is on national backorder with unknown delivery time. Looking online, it seems this is a known issue and parts seems to be months (6+) behind. I am stuck paying for a rental car that GM says I will get reimbursed for, but we will see. To complete the questions above, I did not notice any warning lights or notices until it failed.

When in Normal Drive mode, an unexpected or accidental bump of the Transmission T-Handle shifter between the seats towards rear of vehicle while at a stop sign or parking lot, etc. will "Lock The Transmission in Low Gear 1 out of 10 available gears". If one pulls out into traffic without noticing this event, the engine will approach redline without shifting into the next gear until the situation is acknowledged and the T-Handle is one again pulled back to reset it into automatic drive mode. This is frustrating and potentially dangerous if the situation is not recognized quickly. I suppose engine damage could be at risk. There is "No save the engine by automatically selecting the next gear if this condition happens. There is also no lockout requiring the T-Handle Shift Button on the side requiring to be pushed to acknowledge the desire to set this mode". I tested similar settings on Honda Pilot and it DOES UPSHIFT even if in this manual mode to protect engine and occupants from this difficult situation. I personally will no longer allow any others to drive my truck until this situation is remedied. It appears to be dangerous to me and my truck for those who have no idea this can occur. Please try it for yourself. Vehicle must be similar to 2024 Silverado High Country w T-Handle shifter between the seats. My hope is an over the air update can remedy this situation.

Vehicle has 19299 miles and engine started rattling on deceleration and making clicking and knocking noises. Engine simply stopped working on the highway on the way to Chevy Maintenance. Couldn’t even shift to neutral to get it on the tow truck. It had to be dragged up the ramp. The the clicking and knocking to engine failure happened in one day. Now my truck is sitting in Chevrolet waiting on an engine which is on back order. So I’ll be without a truck that I’m making 1800/mo payments on (took 36 month loan) and can’t even reduce my insurance to comprehensive due to being at a maintenance lot. Bottom line, I have a new undriveable truck with no date available as to when I’ll even get it back. It’s been suggested one to two months…

ENGINE

On April 25, 2025, I was driving on the expressway to work when my 2024 Chevy Silverado 6.2 liter suddenly lost all power. I had to coast from the 3rd lane to the off ramp to get out of other vehicles. My truck was towed to Garber Chererolet in Webster NY, at an expense to me. On April 28, 2025, I was informed by the service manager at Gar er Chevrolet that my Chevy Silverado, 6.2 liter motor blew up and needed a new motor. Later on during the course of that day on April 28, 2025, I learned of, on a national media platform, that General Motors initiated a recall for the 6.2 liter motors that were defective not only for Chevrolet products but all GM products with the 6.2 liter motor in them. Unfortunately I never received a recall notice by the Chevy app, email, USPS Mail or any other means of communication. On Tuesday April 29, 2025, I initiated a claim with General Motors Customer Service Care. This is very very bad, knowingly that there were issues for years with the 6.2 liter motor. I've driven Chevrolet my whole entire adult life because I believe in the product. However, I am going to reconsider my buying options immediately due to the incompetence and negligence of General Motors. This is a serious offense, not only against me but for the whole general population that drive these vehicles. GM pute and all in a very serious situation that could have led to serious physical injury or death itself! Now General Motors tells me that I have to wait between 2 and 3 months for a new 6.2 liter motor because it's on back order. This is not acceptable in no way for myself or anyone else. I will be joining the class action lawsuit against General Motors and all the incompetent executives who knowingly and egregiously hid this from the general public, their customers, including myself. I am beyond angry and have zero confidence in GM going forward.

My 2024 Chevy Silverado Trailboss with the 6.2 engine has had engine tick since it had about 1200 miles on it, I brought it into the dealer where I purchased it and they determined nothing was wrong with it, now today, the noise is way worse, so I called local dealership to my area, with this engine recall on the 6.2’s, the service guy I spoke with said GM has not come up with a remedy yet so there is nothing they can do about it. I asked them what I’m supposed to do, he said keep driving it until it locks up, I asked him if he was serious and he said yes, drive it until it locks up then have it towed to dealership, if they have a loaner I might get one, I said it’s a safety issue if it locks up on the highway or in traffic, he said yep, drive it until it locks up! GM has had 2 buy back programs on this and they still do not have a fix?

ENGINE

It happened to me twice but the first time I was driving on the highway with my family and without warning my engine cut off and I had a message that said “press start button to restart”. I coasted to the shoulder, put the truck in park, and was able to restart. I took it to my dealership where they ran codes and nothing wrong with the engine showed. About 2 weeks later I was taking my kids to daycare and had just exited the highway when my engine cut out again. I pulled up to the 4 way stop sign intersection and tried to restart the truck but it was completely dead and I was stranded in the middle of the intersection with my 3 and 1 year old. The truck threw an engine light this time. I tried to get the truck out of the intersection but the gear was stuck in park and wouldn’t shift to neutral. I then had the truck towed to my dealership where it has been since.

POWER TRAIN

I got my new 2024 Chevy Silverado 2.7l turbomax custom 6 months ago. It shifts weird the first few times from a cold start. I have asked the salesman and he said yeah you have to let the truck warm up for 5 min or so. But even in doing so it still happens, worse the colder out it is. Yesterday I went to grab some food and went to take off onto the main road and when it tried to shift from first to second it felt like the transmission just stopped working for a few seconds then hit 2nd gear hard. I was told this was because the truck needs to get used to the way I drive it. Which I now have close to 4,000 miles on it and it still happens almost every time I shut the truck off and it cools down to ambient temperature. I know this is not normal, and a big safety concern because when I do go to pull out and this happens it feels like a total loss of power and does not take off like it should. I have yet to bring it into the dealership. But I have called about the issue and was told this is normal and would go away. Which it has not. So I am going to make a appointment to get it in the shop. I have also read that many others are having this same exact issue. In which case some people are saying they told them the same thing “that it’s normal”, I have heard others say they will change transmission fluid because the fluid they used is to thick, and have heard of others who had to have them change out the control module for the transmission and or reset it. I am just worried that I’m going to pull out on day and have this happen and get hit from the rear because I don’t have the power I should have to take off properly. Not to mention I should not have to let my car idle for 5-10 min before I can drive it. That’s a huge waste of gas, and time, plus having your direct injection idle makes a ton of carbon build up in the engine. I am not a certified technician but I have been working on my own vehicles for over 20 years now. So a brand new truck should not be doing this.

STRUCTURE:BODY

While driving on March 23, 2025, we heard a loud bang, we stopped at a gas station shortly thereafter and realized the tailgate had fallen open while driving and struck the trailer hitch. The latch/camera compartment were broken and hanging from where it struck the crank for trailer hitch and the tailgate was damaged (dented). It was taken to the dealership where they advised there is a recall on some models due to this same issue. They checked and advised our truck is not part of recall. We filed a PAC claim with Chevrolet which they are declining to pay. The latch/camera is currently taped into place. It has fallen open while driving one additional time since the first event. We frequently carry things in the bed of truck and our safety and that of anyone behind us could be in jeopardy.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

While merging onto the fast lane of the highway i experienced a "press push start to restart" alarm and total loss of power as I went to accelerate and merge with traffic. It was almost like the truck was in neutral but pedal would not even increase the rmp. There was no shoulder and I was forced to stop and restart my vehicle between the onramp and the fast lane. Im fortunate to not have ended up in a bad rear end accident. It did the same a half mile later where atleast I had a shoulder to pull off onto this time. Check engine light threw up a camshaft position sensor fault

Sudden Engine failure, metal shavings found in oil at 16K miles. GM and the dealer acknowledges that the 6.2L motor has been having issues. They state that they are currently investigating but a "fix" of the issue has NOT been made. The motor was replaced under warranty, however, the engine they replaced it with has the same chance of failing as the original engine. There was no warning, no indications prior the the motor seizing up at a red light

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The 2024 silverado with 13.4 infotainment system is unpredictable and often looses paring with iphone during driving. This is a major distraction because then to reestablish pairing for directions from apple maps or google maps chevy tells me you need to stop your vehicle. Put it in park. Re-establish pairing, te-enter destination and have it car play. This is 10x more distracting that someone using their phone non hands free. Furthermore gor music it often defaults to sirrus radio and to get itvto am or fm tequires you to step through many buttons on the steering wheel or touch an extremely small button like 3/16” in diameter to change to either am or fm. Again, a huge distraction. My 2016 chevy cruz and 2017 silverado worked flawlessly with out distraction. I talk to many others who have simply given up on using it because its too dangerous to take your eyes off the road to change settings. Im a retires EE and software developer and this is terrible and NTHB should look into it and test drive one for a couple hundred miles. Been buying Chevys since my first car in 1976 and never been disappointed with any till now. GM customer Service on several occasions and local dealer has been no help

POWER TRAIN

I had a engine failure in my 2024 Chevy Silverrado Trail Boss1500. I had just exited off the highway and came to a complete stop at the stoplight. When the light turned green, I hit the gas pedal and I did not move. I looked down at my gear shifter and noticed the truck was in park (I did not shift the truck into park). I tried to put the truck into drive and realized the engine was not running. I tried starting the truck and it would not start. The truck would crank, but would not start up. I tried this several times with no luck getting truck started. I even tried to put the truck in neutral to get the truck out of the middle of the road and could not get it neutral to move it. I called chevy roadside to tow it to the dealer. The dealership called me on tuesday and said the engine had blown because of a bearing failure and engine needs replaced. Also, they have not let me know approx time I will get my truck back. They claim there's a shortages of engines on the 6.2 liter engine.

Truck has 7000 miles defective valve body failure would not go into reverse and in limp went to dealership and diagnosis is needs valve body replacement with parts on back order with no eta. They said it could be 3-5 months. This is a national issue I’m on multiple social media sites for Chevy trail boss and there is too many to count and it’s been happening since 2021. GM has been no help no loaners and you have to pay for a rental for 3-5 months and pay your truck payments and hopes you are reimbursed at the end. They just recalled the 2021-2022 same 10spd transmissions they are selling Trucks knowing these issues exist also the lifter issues with total engine failures at 10000 miles. The transmission lock up at high speeds.

The truck suddenly and completely shut down while I was driving on the highway, with no warning signs before the total power loss. This unexpected failure put me in a dangerous situation. POWER TRAIN

While driving my vehicle on the highway I was exiting when I looked down at the instrument panel it stated a message along the lines of shifting to neutral and to press the ignition to restart engine. I noticed the vehicle wasn’t accelerating when attempting so I slowed down and did what it instructed me to do. The engine then wouldn’t start, I was uneasy because cars were coming from behind at a decent speed because of morning traffic. I somehow managed to get it to crank and took it to the dealer right away. They stated it was from low voltage and were replacing the battery under warranty. I didn’t think that was the cause but gave them the benefit of the doubt. 2 weeks later while taking my family out, the same incident happened. I wasn’t able to get it to crank and had to get it towed to the dealer. They stated it was the engine because now the engine was making a loud sound when ignited. It is about to be 4 weeks without vehicle and no repair has been made due to no inventory on engines.

Was pulling out onto the road from sitting at a traffic light, vehicle was going less than 25mph when the engine made a clunk trying to shift and the check engine light came on. Computer software indicated “limp mode with reduced acceleration activated.” Vehicle wouldn’t accelerate above 35mph, had to drive on major highway to get to dealership. Truck is only used as commuter vehicle hasn’t towed anything. Dealership indicated valve body transmission failed with vehicle only have 9k miles on it. Part is on back order as it is being manufactured due to installed faulty part, problem has been going on in 2023/2024 Chevy and gmc trucks since January 2024 without a recall put in place. Experienced sudden engine failure while driving on the interstate. Mileage on the vehicle is 11,635. Engine has been maintained as per manufacturers recommendations. Currently at dealership awaiting engine replacement. Was informed that main locking cap for crankshaft came apart, resulting in a hole in the engine block with sudden loss of oil and oil pressure. Currently replacement engines are not available as GM has had a large number of 6.2 L engines that have similarly failed. Dealer cannot provide information on when replacement will be available.

I’ve had 3 occasions of this brand new vehicles front collision avoidance system going off HARD and locking up the brakes. It scared the crap out of me as there was nothing in front of me - if I hadn’t known the truck had automatic collision software - I’d have driven to the Chevy Dealership right then. The first time I thought it was a fluke. The second time it really caught me off guard. The third time (inside 2 months) I realized there is something not right. I reported it to the dealership but they wanted me to trade it in for a new truck. Sorry, no. I just want to report this problem as I’ve seen a recall on other vehicles with 10 speed transmissions. Within seconds, the truck began to lose engine power, the check engine light came on, a transmission warning displayed, the truck shook violently and lost electrical power and power steering. I was able to get to the shoulder in less than a minute and the truck shut down completely. After exiting the truck, I observed smoke, the smell of fire and engine oil/ fluids all over the ground. There were no warning lights or symptoms prior to the engine failing. The sudden loss of power and power steering could have resulted in an accident. My name is [XXX] and I currently own a 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 Truck with a 6.2 lt motor. On [XXX], my truck failed me at which point it had to be towed by road side assistance to Sun Chevy in Chittenango NY. While at the dealer I was advised that my Truck engine 6.2 is bad that the crank shaft bearing failed and further piston rods failed and it would need to be replaced. Two days following I received a call and was advised by the dealer (Sun Chevy) that GM advised the dealer to rebuild the engine. Once that was completed 10 days later the dealer contacted me and stated that the motor does not sound right and there were further problems. I was also advised by the dealer that this is a known problem with 6.2 motors and GM is aware of it. On (3-14-2025) I was told by Sun Chevy that the 6.2 motors are on backorder and I would have to wait approx 6 to 9 months. This truck is not even 1 year old and this is not acceptable in any way. I am paying on a truck that is not operable. I have always been a faithful Chevy owner however I cannot wait this long after buying a New Truck. I called GM to discuss options moving forward and them replacing my Truck. I can be contacted at [XXX], or [XXX]. According to GM This issue has been assigned a case number and that as far as it has gone. My famiky vacation now has to be cancelled as we were going to be traveling in the Truck and the Dealer stated that the loaner vehicle cannot leave the state. This is a complete mess. Any assistance would be appreciated. Respectfully, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ENGINE

Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I am writing to formally report a serious safety issue with my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 equipped with the 6.2-liter engine. At the time of the incident, my truck had only 17,000 miles on it and had received the two necessary oil changes as recommended. On Thursday, [XXX] while driving northbound on [XXX] in Houston, Texas, my truck unexpectedly lost power while in motion. Fortunately, I was in one of the right lanes and was able to push it to the side, but not before nearly being struck by another vehicle. Several cars had to swerve to avoid my disabled truck, and I truly believe that I could have been seriously injured or worse due to this mechanical failure. After having my truck towed to the dealership, I was informed that the engine had completely locked up and needed a full replacement. However, despite my immediate action to get the issue resolved, I have now been without a vehicle since [XXX], and as of today, March 10, 2025, there is still no replacement engine available. I have been told that the 6.2-liter engines are on backorder for 5 to 6 months because this issue is happening to so many vehicles. This raises serious concerns: If so many of these engines are failing, why has there been no recall issued? How is it acceptable for GMC to sell vehicles with a known defect that can lead to life-threatening situations on the road? Why am I still paying a $1,300 monthly car note for a vehicle I have not been able to drive in over three months? This is not just a case of vehicle reliability; this is a severe safety hazard. My truck failed suddenly in moving traffic, and based on the widespread engine failures, it appears that this could happen to many other drivers as well, potentially leading to catastrophic accidents. I urge the NHTSA to investigate these engine failures immediately and take appropriate action, including issuing a recall if warranted. I would appreciate an update on INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA)

It went from 80 to 78 back to 80, then 80 back to 77 to 80. Suddenly and with no warning the engine completely shut down and I went from 80 - 0 is approx. 100 feet. The semi behind me sounded their horn loudly as they almost hit my rear end before merging over. UNKNOWN OR OTHER

I believe the GM 13.4 infotainment system, particularly the navigation system and the radio control exhibit a very bad driver distraction that could lead to wrecks. Specifically with much more traffic now a vast majority of people traveling beyond places they are familiar with rely on the bigger screens on new vehicles so they get a clearer picture of turns ahead. I have experienced multiple occasions where the Silverado infotainment/navigation system randomly unpairs itself from my iPhone and then I’m forced to handhold a phone for navigation which is illegal in my state. I’ve talked to others that have the same problem, the screen going blank and it unpairs whether wireless Bluetooth or USB connected to the proper port. Unacceptable for a $70,000 vehicle. Also GM apparently in an attempt to advertise Sirius radio and subscription plans displays what appear to be warning signs on the display thereby distracting a driver again. The only way to change out of the Sirrus default stations reliably is to push a very small software button smaller than a pencil eraser. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Again you must take your eyes off the road for a couple seconds to perfectly align your finger with the active portion of the software button. I see no way to say default to say radio on startup. You can on the steering wheel toggle many pushes to get through factory presets but many of those presets take you back to the menus to order sirrus radio. Motor blew in my 2024 Chevy Silverado. Motor was a 6.2 liter, L87 with 17,600 miles. Tomorrow will be 4 weeks without my vehicle. I've gotten no information on when any repairs will be made, nor have I gotten any support from the dealership or GM. I was driving 60+ mph in heavy traffic when the motor went. I was put in a bad situation and was lucky to get out of it without injury. I don't know what to do and need help!

Hi - I'm filing a complaint against Chevrolet with the NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation. I purchased a brand new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado in Dec of 2024 from a dealership in MA. I've had the truck for only 2 months and only a couple thousand miles. I was in Quebec with my family for a ski vacation and we were driving back on [XXX} when my truck suddenly started making loud engine noises. I was able to get off the interstate to a gas station and then the truck turned off and would not start again. I had the truck towed to a Chevrolet dealership in Granby, Quebec. There was no warning or alerts before the engine failed. This is a known issue that the NHTSA is currently investigating, it has to do with the 6.2L V8 engine in GM vehicles from 2019-2024. The engine is seized and cannot be repaired, truck needs a new engine. Thank you. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Dealership ran a test, said "control valve body " problem. Part is ordered, on back order. GM - taking software to attempt to monitor when? this problem is going to occur? They know about excessive wear, Why not Re-Engingeer this problem instead of selling vehicles that no one knows when this problem of stopping on the road will occur. That would be a safety issue. A hazardous issue of driving on the road and not know when this would happen. If the vehicle doesn't stop from GM software, the rear wheel brakes lock up.

There is an electrical problem in this vehicle. You can be driving down the road with your high beams on, and they will start flashing. Or they will stop working altogether. Dashboard lights will go out until a restart of the vehicle. ( Speedometer or Tachometer.) The overhead light can just come on driving without you having touched it. The steering wheel controls will stop working. Until you restart the vehicle. The radio has gone out until restart. I have already had to have the transmission replaced in this truck at 24,000 miles. The dealership keeps telling me about these new issues. That unless they find a code. There isn’t a problem. This is not what I paid 62,000 dollars for. The dealer I bought it from is telling me that they will possibly do a buyback. Yet they keep telling me they will get back to me and they don’t. I called the woman who was supposed to call me back. She says she had a family emergency. Chevrolet needs to back their vehicles.

All I’m asking for is for the part or a new transmission to be sent and installed before the month ends. Because if it doesn’t I’ll get fired if I don’t make it to Texas. Engine check light came on at 10,500 miles and under 300 hours of engine time. Initially thought it was due to a wheel speed sensor failure from the salt and brine build up from winter weather. After having the code ran the engine is misfiring and has a rough idle. This is an L87 6.2L motor on a 2024 Silverado ZR2. After researching this problem it is way more frequent than the total of 39 official reports with a similar truck owned by an acquaintance having the same issue at the same mileage. Engine sound has changed, the truck shudders, and may seize up at any moment. The truck had 1 oil change at 5500 miles and was due for its second oil change at 11500 but will more than likely need an engine replacement.

Shortly after I bought this truck, At about 3,000miles I thought it had an exhaust leak, I took it in to Chevy and they kept it for a few days. Well they get back to me and said that the lifters had failed. They put new ones in and these too failed. Then about 2 weeks later they got back to me saying they were waiting on putting a new motor in for the truck. This is the 6.2L that is known for lifter failure. After about 2 more weeks they reached back out and had said that the truck was almost done. When I got the call to come get it, I asked when I got there what do I do when this keeps happening in the future of me owning the truck. The service guy shrugged his shoulders and said “buy and extended warranty.” He then proceeded to tell me to buy a chip that will delete the DFM in the truck but will void my factory warranty. I’m very frustrated and worried for myself in the future with this truck. I’ve already spent so much buying the truck and in a few years when my warranty expires and this happens again that will be out of my pocket.

Subject: Engine Failure – 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (6.2L V8 •VIN: [XXX] Issue Description: While driving on [XXX], I noticed the transmission would downshift but not upshift. Within seconds, a warning appeared: “Oil temperature high, idle engine.” I began merging onto the shoulder, but before I could get there, the engine shut off completely, and the transmission shifted into neutral. After coasting to the shoulder, the transmission shifted into park on its own. Failure to Restart & Electrical Issues: I attempted to restart the engine, but it would not turn over. The dashboard, radio, and electronics turned off for a few seconds before coming back on, but the engine remained unresponsive. Towing Difficulties & Roadside Assistance Failure: GM Roadside Assistance said no contracted towing companies had the equipment to tow my truck because it would not shift into neutral without the engine running. I had to find and pay for a tow truck myself, with no guarantee of reimbursement. Dealer Response & Repair Delays: My truck has been at the dealership for days, but they have not started repairs due to technician shortages and a backlog of work. They stated: •Manually cranking the engine is nearly impossible. •The starter is not strong enough to turn it. •Repairs could take months. Loaner Car & Additional Hardships: Per the GM warranty, I received a loaner car but must return it every 500 miles. Since I commute 160 miles per day, I must frequently exchange it, causing major inconvenience. Safety Concerns & Requested Action: This sudden engine failure on the highway was a significant safety risk. Given that NHTSA is investigating failures of the GM 6.2L V8 (L87), I believe my case is related. GM should issue a recall or extended warranty for affected vehicles. I attempted to start the truck up again and the truck would not turn over, i had sat there for about 25/30 Min trying to get the truck started and finally the truck turned over and i was able to continue on to work, While driving the truck had absolutely no power and the truck was sitting around 3K RPMs when going 66mph, the truck was hard shifting into gears as well. I arrived at work and i got to a parking space and all the sudden the truck shut off and wouldn't not start back up. Upon arriving to work i rolled down my window and heard a long banging noise coming from the engine Aswell as a whining noise. I attempted to start the truck up and you hit the start button the truck just keeps whining and never starts up. I was able to contact GM Roadside and have a tow truck come and pick the truck up and bring it back to the dealer. Im awaiting the dealer to contact me. Overall, i could have been in serious car accident for because the engine just shut off on the highway, this happened with no warning or anything, the check engine light was NOT on before this happened.

On 12/24/24 my truck went into limp mode with the notification of “reduced acceleration” nearly causing an accident. Luckily I was able to get off the road to safety. The truck wouldn’t go in reverse or fully accelerate. I had the truck towed to the dealership. The dealership informed me it was the Valve Body in my transmission. They mentioned they have 4 other trucks with the exact same issue. It’s been 1 month since and nothing has been repaired and GM has not responded to my inquiries on a replacement, update on the part, or a buy back. The vehicle was brand new on a lease only 7500 miles on it and was purchased in July. The truck didn’t even last 6months. Had I not quickly gotten the truck off the road I could have been T-Boned and could’ve died at the intersection by a semi coming through. The fact this vehicle was sold, while this was an issue is criminal negligence.

My 2024 ZR2 has roughly 22,000 miles on it. Was driving and lost power. Dealership actually sent someone to come look at my stalled truck. Would not turn over. Dealership got it towed. After diagnosis, they said the engine had seized. This is absolutely uncalled for on a brand new vehicle that I paid over $70,000 for. This exact same thing happened on my Co Workers 2020 high country 6.2. It is currently being worked on, and now seeing that over 877,000 of these 6.2 engines have done this exact same thing since 2019??? How is this engine still being put in these GM vehicles? Now they are going to put new or rebuild the one I have that the exact same thing can happen to the new one? No new warranty will be given as I just get the remaining warranty? I'm sorry but this is the most expensive vehicle I have ever purchased and was proud of it. Now I have a ticking time bomb? I work out of state and if this happened while out of state, what do I do?? I would like action taken! I am getting an attorney involved as this should be taken care of after 877,000 vehicles. What other action can be taken? The vehicle burns oil and has from the very first oil change. The dealer is stating the oil needs to be changed more often (5k as opposed to 7500 per the manual) to mitigate the fact the vehicle is burning oil. Currently I am hearing lifter tick at cold start and believe the vehicle is on its way to experiencing engine failure of which your organization is already looking into. I am reporting this to help with your investigation. Please feel free to call with any questions. Thank you. The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while the transmission was shifting gear, there was a hesitation before properly shifting gear. The contact stated that while stopped at a stop light and then attempting to accelerate while making a left turn at approximately 15 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to accelerate immediately but then suddenly surged forward. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the vehicle went into LIMP Mode. The contact had restarted the vehicle and drove the vehicle a short distance to the residence. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission valve had failed, and the valve body needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired due to the manufacturer taking an extensive amount of time to provide the parts. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 7,485.

After I was able to safely pull to the side of the road with zero power I was able to restart the vehicle after a few tries. The check engine light came on. Upon getting the code checked the CAM sensor is what shut the vehicle off. I was on a busy access road and a crash could have happened if I was not able to move out of the travel lanes.

I am sending this report in regards to investigation PE25001. I own a 2024 Silverado 6.2L, purchased on 8/30/24. On 12/27/24, I noticed a odd noise coming from the exhaust and took the truck to the dealership. After a week of trouble shooting, the dealership with the help of technicians from Chevrolet, discovered the crankshaft play was 3 times out of limits causing the exhaust to rattle and determined that engine would have to be replaced.

I purchased a new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4wd in May 2024 from a Chevrolet Dealer in East Tennessee, after having the truck for 5 months, it started experiencing a transmission "shutter / vibration" at higher speeds, it has also experienced a transmission "hard downshift" at times... a month later at only 4914 miles, it was dropped off at the chevrolet dealership here in my home state of Alabama for its first oil change and for them to check what is going on with the transmission, after the truck being there for 3 weeks, we were told that the transmission needed to come out for repairs, we advised the dealership and several GM representatives that we wanted a brand new transmission put in the truck that is brand new to start with, GM has refused and stated that they were going just rebuild the transmission.... we told them "No" and that we had bought a brand new truck, therefore it should have a new transmission, not a rebuilt one in a brand new truck with less than 5000 miles on it.... the truck has been out of our possession starting into its 3rd month being gone for repairs, not only is this a huge inconvenience for us, but its also a huge safety issue because we do occasionally pull trailers with this truck... General Motors has flat refused any help to our satisfaction with this transmission issue and has just pretty just blown us off and told us "No" when we have approached them with any kind of remedies for this situation, its pretty bad when a company that has taken a government bailout a few years ago, hasnt learned anything from their past mistakes and now think theyre untouchable.... it also pretty bad when you spend in excess of $60,000 for a pickup truck that you dont even have in your possession because of defective manufacturing.... yes, it is a safety issue even more because my family is sometimes using this truck and may not always react the same way that I would if something happened going down the road.... it needs a recall on these trucks

The 6.2L engine suffered lifter failure while the vehicle was in motion on the highway. This was after 5 months of ownership and only 2,800 miles on a new 2024 Silverado. The vehicle months prior to the failure emitted a chirping sound like a loose fan belt. Dealer stated it was valve noise. It got louder prior to failure. The dealer repaired the engine and replaced all 8 cylinder lifters. Now the same noise is back.

Unknowns at the moment- truck is at dealership. Dealership stated they have no codes to diagnose the issue. While traveling, most notably @35-45mph, there is a vibration, seemingly through the transmission or transfer case. You can feel it slightly through both the steering wheel and the fuel pedal, along with hearing it. I’ve taken it in several times and told there’s no issue. I will not accept the vehicle back until they are able to explain the issue and repair it. I noticed the issue around 20k miles. I recently took the vehicle to the shop with 32k miles on it as it is progressively getting worse.

On 1/13/25 while driving my new vehicle and arriving at destination I placed vehicle in park for 10 mins and then left putting vehicle in reverse and transmission in reverse would not engage, rolling me into decline slope and almost crashing into home. After receiving help to push vehicle in neutral, I placed car in drive and sent to dealership. Truck seemed fine in drive. Parkway Chevrolet, Tomball, TX inspected vehicle and stated no issues. Possible torque lock but nothing showing and possibly resolved. On 1/16/25 while driving to work, I stopped at gas station for coffee, left truck running. Got back in vehicle and placed in reverse, and again truck would not engage reverse. I received another push out in neutral , placed in drive and then proceeded to return home. While I’m drive check engine light came on, and truck would not go beyond the 2nd gear. I stopped at closest light to turn around and proceed home and the vehicle began grinding gea and jerking my vehicle while in drive. I tried to turn around at a dead end road and could not reverse vehicle and called for tow to dealership. Dealership at opening 7am took in vehicle 2 nd time with my complaint and called at noon. They stated the valve body of transmission needed to be replaced. Further stating it was a faulty issue chevy was aware about but nothing showing and recalled. They said no longer using manufacturer for this transmission replacement and it would be an unknown eta for repair. This is dangerous and unacceptable as it is a new vehicle with a known faulty part.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

The issue involved multiple systems, including the ABS system, brake system, and electronic stability system (ESG), along with a significant loss of braking power. These components may still be available for inspection. My safety and that of others were seriously at risk during my morning commute in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The truck lost braking capability, nearly causing a collision with the vehicle in front of me. Later, as I attempted to park, it again lost braking force, and I narrowly avoided crashing into bushes. The collision prevention system also failed to activate during these incidents. The problem was inspected and diagnosed by the dealership after being towed via roadside assistance. They confirmed that the battery caused the failures across multiple systems. This was not the first issue with the battery. About a month ago, the battery suddenly died, preventing the truck from starting. At that time, Chevrolet sent me a message stating that the battery status was critical. After recharging it, the vehicle functioned normally until this recent incident. The first symptoms of the latest issue appeared while I was stopped at a red light. The truck suddenly shut off and restarted on its own. Warning lights for the ABS system and brake system appeared on the dashboard. Once the light turned green and I started to accelerate, an ESG message appeared, followed by another message limiting the maximum speed to 43 mph. When I tried to brake to park the truck, the brakes were slow to respond, making it feel like the truck had completely lost braking power. The collision prevention system failed to activate, increasing the danger. Fortunately, my two babies were not in the truck at the time of the incident. This was an extremely frightening situation for me as a driver. The truck is only six months old, has 37,000 miles, and was purchased new. I believe many of these failures could have been prevented with proper safeguards. While I was lucky to avoid an
