POWER TRAIN

Over the past 4–6 months, the transmission in my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has repeatedly failed in a way that creates a serious safety hazard. On multiple occasions while driving at highway speeds, the transmission has locked up the rear end, causing a sudden and violent loss of control. These incidents nearly resulted in collisions and could have caused serious injury or death. The truck will no longer shift at all and is now completely inoperable. These failures happen without warning and present a severe risk of total loss of vehicle control. Date(s) of Incident: Multiple occurrences between approximately March 2025 and August 2025 (exact dates unknown). Dealer / Manufacturer Response: I contacted Chevrolet Customer Care and multiple Chevrolet dealerships in my area (including John Megel Chevrolet, Dawsonville, GA). My most recent case was closed without resolution. I have been denied a loaner or reimbursement for a rental vehicle, and I have been told that the repair could take at least a month before even being assessed, with additional delays for parts. Consequence: This is not only a serious safety hazard but also a severe financial and employment hardship. I rely on this truck for my job, and without it, I cannot work. I am now three months behind on my truck payments and other bills, and I am on the verge of losing my job because I have no transportation. GM’s failure to repair or provide alternate transportation has left me stranded, financially unstable, and at risk of unemployment — all while the vehicle remains under an extended warranty. Request to NHTSA: I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether this defect is part of a wider safety issue affecting 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 transmissions and determine if a safety recall is warranted.

POWER TRAIN

Engine coolant valve failure causing vehicle to go into reduced power mode while traveling on highway causing vehicle to travel at a slow unsafe speed in relation to other traffic. Check engine light activated, reduced power activated. Chevrolet dealership confirmed engine coolant control valve issue. Engine control valve must be replaced before vehicle can be driven. Engine Coolant control valve is on back order. No part replacement time frame due to back order. Safety concerns with reduced power mode on roadway with speed limits greater than 45 mph.

ENGINE

We bought 2 of the same exact trucks last year. They each had no miles on them. My business partner was coming home from vacation and stated hearing ticking. We took it to our mechanic and he said it’s a blown motor. Prior to leaving for vacation, an oil change was done on the truck. When the mechanic said the motor is blown he also said it’s down 3 quarts of oil. All scheduled maintenance was done on the truck routinely. We took the truck back to the shop that did the oil change and they had recorded the service, there was no doubt the oil was changed the prior week but it was now black and down three quarts.

ENGINE

I have a 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 3.0L Duramax Trail Boss. Temperature gauge keeps flocculating, engine fan kicks on at 100% and shuts off the AC. Warning on dash engine temperature to high AC shutting off and engine over heat. Took it to the dealership for the truck is still under warranty. They diagnosed it as a faulty coolant control valve. Was told it was safe to drive by the technician but I question that. Dealership ordered the part four weeks ago and it still has not come in. When I inquired about the delay, I found out it is on back order and the availability of the part long wait time. Further research found that this is a systemic issue owners are having with this specific engine since 2020. Yet GM has not done a recall nor is there supply stockage of this part, seeing how this part commonly fails.

POWER TRAIN

While driving 55 mph and towing my boat on a 2 lane paved road , I started up a slight incline and the transmission downshifted so hard that the rear wheels locked up long enough to throw us into the dash even with seat belts on. I turned around an drove back home with it locking up again. No codes or lights on the dash. Took it to dealer June 26,2025 for dealer to diagnose issue. They kept it overnight and drove it about 60 miles, called me the next day to pick it up saying they could not duplicate the rear wheel lockup and since there were no codes there was nothing to fix. Tried to tell me it was my boat trailer causing the issue. Boat trailer has surge brakes, nothing electrical on trailer brakes. Over the next couple days the rear wheels locked up 2 more times. Always as I started up an incline going around 50-55 mph. No lights or codes July 2, 2025 we recorded on video 2 rear wheel lockups with the second lockup starting a slight fishtail on dry pavement and leaving a 5 foot skid mark. Went back to the dealership with the video and they said again if there are no codes they can’t fix it and they would try to duplicate the issue for me to leave the truck and not give me a rental vehicle , and no timeline on how long they would try to duplicate the issue. I did not leave my truck there and they kept promising to call me when they had a loaner vehicle for me to use. On July 14, 2025 ,while still waiting for a loaner vehicle the transmission finally locked up the rear wheels and check engine light came on. My mileage was 43078, it took 1,193 miles to finally throw codes that the dealership would fix. Codes were P0700 and P0747. These are same codes for safety recalls N242454440 and N242454441. Obviously my vin is not included in the recalls but the dealership should have put the software on my truck the first time I was there on June 27th, the same day they completed the Pa.state inspection on my vehicle. I wouldn’t have had to experience this unsafe conditions.

The fuel pump went out, left me stranded and was replaced The transmission went out and was replaced. The lifters in the engine were replaced. When will the engine recall be addressed/acted on? The "cure" to install heavier engine oil is a very bad "bandaid"....truly masks the problem. Maybe the Chevy CEO should return her 2024 $25mm bonus to help pay for the repairs.

I am filing this complaint against General Motors (GM) and its affiliated dealership Kunes Chevrolet for the unauthorized installation of a surveillance/tracking device (LoJack) in my vehicle, which resulted in severe personal harm, digital exposure, and downstream targeting. On [XXX], I purchased a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado from Kunes Chevrolet in Morrison, Illinois. I was never informed that a LoJack tracking device had been installed in the vehicle. On [XXX], I appeared in person at the same dealership to confront suspicious activity tied to my vehicle’s GPS data. A service advisor confirmed the presence of a LoJack unit and printed a removal ticket, which should be recorded in GM’s internal service system under my name and VIN. This constitutes verifiable, documented acknowledgment of the unauthorized installation. Consequences of This Violation Include: •Illegal geolocation tracking without consent •Suspected sale or exposure of my driving data to third parties and possible defense-linked contractors •Multiple impersonation attempts, including suspected social and professional infiltration •Psychological harm, loss of employment, opportunities, and repeated digital sabotage •Multiple homicide attempts on my life •FOIA-confirmed military interest in my location (Air Force Case #: [XXX]) •IRS and identity manipulation, suggesting systemic misuse of my physical address, GPS logs, and digital footprint INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact was notified of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. While driving 55 MPH, the vehicle stalled with an unknown message displayed. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer. Several days later that the dealer informed the contact that a new engine had been ordered and the new engine was replaced. The contact stated that after retrieving the vehicle, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled to have the vehicle serviced. The contact stated that while in a store parking lot, the vehicle failed to start after several attempts. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer where the mechanic discovered that a fuse connector was loose, causing the failure to start. The contact was also informed that the dealer failed to replace several screws and bolts back in place once the engine was replaced. The vehicle occasionally surged forward or hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal, causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle while driving at various speeds. The manufacturer was made aware of the issues and the contact was informed that a refurbished engine was placed inside the vehicle and not a new engine as the dealer had stated. The vehicle remained with dealer due to safety concerns. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.

The vehicle is now at the dealer for the second time regarding transmission shifting issues. First visit I was told they can find nothing wrong despite my experiencing transmission slipping, loud clanking on shifting, and severe jolting when shifting. While having a travel trailer hitched to the truck after the first visit, I experienced all the same issues with the addition of transmission overheating warnings on the dashboard and near complete stoppage of the vehicle at highway speed. The same dealer now says the transmission "valve body" is defective and is being ordered. Due to Towing a trailer with this truck (much lighter than rated capacity) I have the transmission fluid changed on nearly every oil change. The Transmission filter has been changed on the recommendation of my mechanic, strictly due to quantity of fluid changes.

The vehicle began making a loud fan noise in the engine after the summer began (06/2025) and the temperature gauge was elevated but not by a concerning amount. After an oil change (06/21/25) we were told that it was normal because of the weather. A week after the check engine light was coming on intermediately (began 06/28/2025) depending on the day and the temperature outside (we are currently in the middle of a heat wave). The vehicle was taken to the dealership (07/02/2025) where they determined that the coolant flow was too low and found that the engine coolant pump is faulty and needs to be replaced. f the coolant is low in a Chevy Silverado and the engine overheats, it can lead to significant and potentially expensive engine such as a blown head gasket, cracked engine block, or even a complete engine failure or fire.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

I was driving on the freeway and smelled gasoline in the cab. I thought nothing of it as I was near a wreck and thought it was from that. About 10 miles down the road I was stopped in traffic and noticed my miles until empty was slowly declining as I was stopped. When I moved forward there was a puddle under my truck. I pulled to the side of the road and fuel was draining from the back of my engine all over the exhaust. I immediately shut the truck off. I cannot believe the gas didn't ignite as those catalytic converters get well over 536°. The truck was towed to the closest Chevrolet dealer over 10 days ago and I have YET to hear anything from them. I bought the truck used from another Chevrolet dealer 3 weeks prior, and it has had the L87 recall.

ENGINE

I own a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 equipped with the 6.2L V8 L87 engine. My vehicle is included in Recall Number 25V274 / N252494000, which addresses manufacturing defects in the connecting rods and/or crankshaft that can cause engine failure. My recall status currently shows: "Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available." However, GM and NHTSA have already stated the remedy: a VIN-specific engine inspection, followed by either a replacement or an oil system update and extended warranty. I contacted my dealership, Lochmandy Chevrolet in Elkhart, Indiana [XXX] ), and was told on June 1, 2025, that they could not inspect my truck due to lack of tools or VIN clearance from GM. I was given no estimated timeline for when I can get my vehicle serviced. My concern is that I’m driving a known defective vehicle with a potential for sudden power loss or engine seizure—a serious safety hazard. My truck currently has 19,500 miles, and I’m worried about continued use without an inspection or remedy. I’m requesting that NHTSA follow up on GM’s delays in remedy deployment, ensure dealerships are equipped for inspections, and provide vehicle owners like me with a firm timeline for repairs. Please open a case and provide a reference number. I can be reached at [XXX] for updates. I am documenting all interactions with GM and my dealership for safety and legal purposes. So I experienced a P1098 code in my 2023 Chevy Silverado with a 3.0 liter Duramax. When you get this code the truck will go into “limp” mode with reduce (nonexistent) acceleration and only go to about 60 miles per hour (63) I think. This could become a large safety issue if someone was to experience this going down the highway. It is also a VERY common problem doing internet searches. Seems that GM knows this is an issue but does nothing about it. In fact they even tried to remove the part from warranty because it was happening so often. Seems like this is something the government should look into and see what the true cause of the issue is. On the other hand some of the reliability of these engines is caused by the government implementing many restrictions on the manufacture to meet certain requirements. I am frustrated this happened along with probably with thousands of other owners. Thanks!

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

While driving down the road I let off the accelerator to start applying brakes for a red light I was approaching, then the vehicle shut completely off and down shifted hard. After that it restarted a second later but had no power steering and no brakes. At this point I was approaching the red light with no brakes and power of my vehicle, the other traffic had a green light now and was crossing my lane of travel but I was luckily able to make it through the light in between vehicles without causing any harm to myself or others. After making it through the light I was rolling 10mph still helpless but seen a gas station on my right and rolled into their parking lot and drove towards a curb and used the curb to stop my vehicle. The vehicle had the following warning lights and messages: Lane Change Alert System Off, Brake system failure 62mph top speed, service traction control, service ESC, and trailer brakes disabled service required. I then got the vehicle towed to the dealership while still on and in the running position with all the codes still active. The dealer was able to scan the truck in and see the codes but told me they wouldn’t be able to get to it till the following week so they parked the vehicle and turned it off. When they got to my vehicle the following week they sent me a text and said I quote “Hey ****** its **** from Chevy, I do not have the best news lol he can not get it to act up and there are no current codes he has driven and nothing has happened, as of now there is nothing further he can do”. After receiving that text I called them to just be told they can’t get it to do it again and there is nothing they can do. But I told them I refuse to pick up this vehicle because it had a critical safety issue. This vehicle suffered a catastrophic failure, brakes and steering were lost in an intersection. If not diagnosed properly, this poses a threat to life.

On [XXX] the automatic tailgate on my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado began opening and closing without reason. This obviously poses a potential safety issue. After investigating, I found that there is a recall on 2020 to 2024 Silverados, recall # N232426400. I called Penske Chevrolet in Indianapolis to schedule a time for them to confirm the tailgate switch short and execute the recall service. I was informed by Penske that my specific VIN was not included in the recall. This is not acceptable. Reporting indicates there are a number of other Silverado owners in the same position. Please investigate, as the current state of the recall is most certainly not inclusive of all vehicles that are affected. There should be no hesitation by Chevrolet to broaden the recall INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I take my truck in for regular service at my local Chevy dealership. When I found out about the recall on my engine back in April I immediately took my truck in. Was advised that they would address the issue. They did a regular maintenance and told me that they just used higher viscosity oil. I will be taking my truck in for the 3rd maintenance tomorrow 6/13/25. My vehicle status still shows that the recall needs to be addressed. I feel that I should park my truck due to the information provided on the recall of losing propulsion at any given time without notice. I also want to note that there is a noise coming from my engine that shouldn’t be there.

GM has been manufacturing Silverado Pickup trucks with faulty transmission valve bodies for several years. There has been ongoing issues for several years with the defective Valve Body part. I purchase a 2023 for my business. It is presently at a dealership waiting on the part. It is my understanding GM has so many of these issues they can't keep up with the parts. I am told it could be weeks or months to get this part. Online you can see countless others who have waiting 2-3 months for a replacement Valve Body. How can they keep making the trucks with these defective parts. I still have to pay my $1,300 monthly payment while I have no use of my vehicle and they do not pay the full cost of a rental.

This is the third time since the purchase date of July 2023, that my Diesel 1500 Silverado has gone into "Reduced Engine Power" while driving. The first date was August 2024, while traveling down the interstate. The check engine light came on. My maximum speed was reduced to 50mph, and the transmission shifting was very jerky. This was extremely dangerous with the flow of traffic traveling 70+ mph. I returned to the dealer where the vehicle sat on the lot for approximately 60 days awaiting the part (Valve Body) from GM. Components were repaired through warranty. Fast forward to February 2025, "Reduced Engine Power" notification came on again with the code P0747, P700. Returned to dealer, and after a week of sitting on the lot, the technician could not duplicate the code. I requested that a new fuel filter be replaced for piece of mind. Today, 3 mos. later, as I was backing out of my driveway, my truck did not shift/engage into Reverse. I was able to roll into the road & put it in Drive, however it went into "Reduced Engine Power." The vehicle will have to be towed, at my expense, I'm sure, to further diagnose the cause. The truck does not move when shifted into Reverse, and pressure is applied to the pedal. It is extremely concerning knowing a national recall on identical GM components has been reported, and yet I have had identical issues without resolution. Despite the known problems and safety risks, especially with a child in the vehicle during each failure, I’ve been left without consistent or timely support. I am requesting immediate assistance in diagnosing and repairing this vehicle, as well as a formal explanation of why this recurring issue has not triggered a broader response or replacement. At this point, I’m also considering pursuing further action through GM corporate or a consumer protection agency if a permanent resolution is not reached.

At 383 miles the engine started a ticking noise. Around the same mileage the transmission would also start make hard down shifts, especially into 1st gear. At around 27000 miles transmission would also shutter at light loads and low speeds. Attempted to take it to dealer 2 different times, but they had no loaner cars and needed it for more than a day. At milage 28,251 I drove to the dealership an insisted that it needed to be fixed. They were able to provide loaner car at that time. Engine ticking noise was cylinder number 7 lifter stuck closed. Transmission was unable to be checked due to engine needing repair. The Dealer replace all 8 lifters on drivers side of engine. Upon the fix they test drove for the transmission problem and noticed noise coming from the water pump. Replaced the water pump and was told transmission needed a new valve body. Those parts were on back order for over 3 months. They found a service bulletin to reprogram the transmission so they could release the truck to me instead of hold months for parts. After more than 30 days in shop picked up truck. After driving around for a few hours noticed engine noise again but different. Like a bearing? Dealer had already closed so took it back the next day. Couple days later was informed that the head gasket was installed wrong? REALLY. Went to the dealer's new car manager and asked to be traded out of it and into a new truck. Dealer offered me 10,000 below blue book for trade in! They didn't even want their own product back. Picked up truck couple days later and drove straight to Toyota and traded it in I needed a reliable truck. The dealer's service department was great with the problem. But it's the product that really [XXX] and had the potential to be very dangerous. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

On [XXX] around [XXX], I was driving my Silverado down [XXX] near the Cottonwood Mall in Albuquerque, NM. Without warning, the engine died in the center lane of this busy highway. I turned on the emergency flashers, then while trying to call for emergency help on my phone, I stood behind the truck, waving traffic to the side lanes in an effort to prevent being rear ended. After about 10 minutes, luckily, an emergency fire department truck spotted my distress and doubled back, parked behind me and engaged his emergency lights. A good Samaritan stopped an attempted to toe strap me to the shoulder of the road. However, the poor design of this truck didn't allow me to put the transmission in neutral unless the vehicle is running. So, after about an hour, the tow truck driver was able to drag the Silverado on the back of his flatbed. After my truck was at the dealer for a week, they were able to determine that the engine main bearings seized and spun a couple of rod bearings. This is a well maintained vehicle, with the oil changes done on time and documented at the dealership. My Silverado has a 6.2 liter V 8.engine with only 21,532 miles on it. ENGINE

While driving my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 with the 6.2L engine (approx. 22,000 miles) on a busy interstate in another state, the vehicle suddenly lost power and shifted into neutral without warning. I was towing a 5,000-pound camper and had my wife and three children in the truck. We were traveling on a slight incline when the truck unexpectedly disengaged. There were no warning lights, no messages, and no sounds indicating engine failure—just a sudden loss of drive. All displays remained illuminated, but I had no power to the wheels. By the grace of God, I was able to maneuver to the median before the truck and camper came to a complete stop. It was a terrifying and dangerous situation that could have resulted in a major accident given the speed of traffic, the weight of the trailer, and the total lack of warning. The truck was towed to a Chevrolet dealer across the state line. After running diagnostics, I was told the engine had failed and would need to be replaced under warranty. However, I have yet to receive a clear explanation of what exactly failed internally. I was informed that a replacement engine is back-ordered by several months, leaving me without a vehicle and unsure when it will be repaired. The incident has not yet been investigated by the manufacturer, insurance, or law enforcement. This experience was frightening not just because of the mechanical failure, but because it happened with zero indication. I hope others don’t have to go through something like this. I understand thousands of these trucks may never see a failure like this—but for us, it happened suddenly, with our entire family on board, and it nearly ended in disaster.

SERVICE BRAKES

While driving going 40 mph a ‘Brake System Failure’ warning came on and brakes stopped working. Thankfully there were no cars ahead allowing me to continue until the car came to a stop. At that point I engaged the emergency brake and put the car in park and out of gear. I then had the truck towed to a Chevy dealership. I still do not have a response to what the issue is.

At 19k miles the transmission had a shifting problem and went into limp mode forcing a deceleration while on a highway. Had to unhook the battery and hook it back up to clear the code to get to a safe point for towing. Had to do this 3 times. Once at the dealer they could not recreate the problem. One week later it went into limp mode again. Took it to the deal and was informed that the valve body in the transmission would need to be replace. There is a supply shortage on parts and I am now without a truck for who knows how long.

During gear down-shift the rear wheels briefly lock up. This event can be duplicated easily at around 45mph, by slowing due to uphill grade or slowing traffic, then upon normal application of throttle to resume course the transmission shifts to next lowest gear (3 or 4, not sure) there occurs a brief and sudden horrendous jerk as the rear wheels lock & skid. The event lasts less than 1/4 sec, but happens multiple times per day as that speed/load condition is frequent. On occasion, the same can occur in a parking lot ~10mph, but isn't as violent. The first occurrence was at mileage 38,000; the vehicle now has 45,000 miles. This appears to be the same issue as NHTSA Recall No 24V-797, which does not include my vehicle's production year.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The symptoms since the beginning of 2024 have been that when braking between 7 and 10 mph, you feel a bump or a skid, and when you stop, the engine shakes for a moment as if it's going to shut off. This happens with the Auto Stop-Start off. A sudden braking moment can affect the vehicle's performance, making it difficult to control and increasing the risk of accidents, especially when it comes to a pickup truck that may have a trailer with cargo or objects in the bed that can be thrown. The trailer can even leave the road, losing control of the car. In 2024, I took the truck to the place where I bought it, Bomnin Chevrolet Dadeland, for a checkup. I explained all the symptoms to my advisor, just as I do here. I had to take it to wait for a loaner. A few days later, I took it back, and they had it for almost a week. When I picked it up, my advisor told me everything was fine. When I left the dealership, I found the same symptoms, so I went back and told him the car was still doing the same thing, and he told me it was normal. After much insistence, he got in the car with me to show him the problem, and the car did it several times, but according to him, it was normal. Now, in 2025, a week ago I took it to Miami Lakes Auto Mall to get checked out with the same symptoms and explanation. I started investigating why that couldn't possibly be normal car operation. They found they had to replace the torque converter and valve body because they found an excessive amount of metal in the transmission. The valve body is on back order indefinitely at all dealerships, so I had to take the car in that condition. Before taking it, I spoke with the manager and GM to ask them to give me a car until they fixed mine because it wasn't right for me to drive the car like that. But they didn't offer me anything. I took it back to Bomnin Chevrolet Dadeland and they told me they were going to change the transmission and torque converter and conveniently they didn't have to change the valve.

Thankfully on a rural road so was able to get out of danger. Had this happened in a busy environment may not have been so forturnate. Dealer determined that 2 of the connecting rods bent and caused catostrophic engine damage. Since this happened I have read about 100's of other 6.2L gasoline engines having similar issues. This isn't a random occurance and Chevrolet has writted technical memos explaining the issue for thier dealers.

On 3/1/2025, while driving, my vehicle became unresponsive and inoperable . My vehicle stopped at the intersection in a turn lane. The vehicle engine turned off and a check engine light turned on in the dashboard. There were no sounds or indicators prior to the event. All of the controls became inoperable and unresponsive. When I tried to restart the vehicle it would not turn over. I was unable to shift the vehicle out of park. The dash board showed the message “Conditions Not Correct for Shift”. I tried several different corrective actions and referred to the owners manual but I was unable to do anything. The owners manual didn’t specify how to shift the vehicle when it is not running. I had to call a tow truck because we were in the intersection and it presented a concern for safety for ourselves and others the tow truck tried resetting the vehicle, jumping it, and looked for the manual shift override but were unsuccessful. They pulled my truck onto the tow truck and took it to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle. When we arrived at the dealership the tow truck driver consulted with the dealership personnel and were still unable to determine any cause or how to manually shift the vehicle into neutral. My truck has the 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine with only 15466 miles. The dealer confirmed engine failure and is in the process of ordering a new engine. There is no known ETA for the engine because it has become a national issue. I have also read multiple encounters of other owners have multiple engines fail and replaced.

An error message popped up on the display "Conditions not correct to shift", with no other lights coming on. Truck has now coasted to a stop and the check engine light came on. Cannot put the truck into any other gear. I was lucky enough to not be traveling at a higher rate of speed, but I can see this being a huge safety concern. The truck was towed to a local dealer where i was told that the truck has experienced "Spontaneous Engine Disassembly". However, my service record only states "Check Engine Light On". The attached information is the only thing that I have of the incident and how it's being reported.

POWER TRAIN

While pulling out onto a very busy highway in North Dallas, I had to "step" on it in order to make the turn. Immediatley after making the turn I went to "step" on it and the truck shifted into Neutral with heavy traffic. Luckily I was able to coast to a turning lane safely. Once stopped I was able to place the truck in park. However, after shutting off the truck it was never able to restart. This night was an extremely cold night with subfreezing temperatures. Not being able to start the truck meant no heater and myself and my girlfriend quickly became very cold. After calling OnStar we waiting almost 45 minutes for roadside assistance. However, they were only coming to try and jump start the truck and had to request a second roadside assistance to come and tow the vehicle. The vehicle could not be shifted into Neutral and a flatbed truck had to be used and the truck had to be drug up onto the tow truck. When I first stopped the truck and shifted it into Park, the engine was still running and sounded normal. It just could not be shifted into any gears. However, the GM dealership is telling me the engine seized up and needs to be replaced and could take 4-8 weeks just to locate an engine. Although no one was hurt or injured thankfully, the safety risk when this happened could have been very bad and deadly. Not to mention not being able to have heat during extreme cold temperatures is a safety concern. Had the truck not been able to be parked in a safe area, and not being able to be shifted to Neutral, this also could pose a safety risk.

February 9 2024 I was driving down the highway at 65 mph and went to switch lanes and realized engine was no longer running. I pulled over and got a tow to the dealership I purchased it from . Truck only had 5000 miles on it and they told me the engine locked up and needed replacement. They performed an engine replacement. It was not completed until April 6, 2024. Two months to get repaired. Today I was driving down the hightway and again engine blew. I heard a spun bearing noise from engine compartment area. Pulled over and engine shut itslef off . Had it towed back in to find out I am on a line of a bunch of 6.2 engines needing replaicing. Very disappointed in Chevy.

My truck, which has a 6.2 V8 L87 engine, seized up on the highway while on a road trip. The engine suddenly died with no warning or alerts on the dash. The mechanic told me that the oil pan was full of metal and the engine was completely seized. The engine needs to be replaced entirely at just under 40K miles. I have been diligent in taking the truck in for regular service at the dealership, and I had no indication of any problem with the vehicle until it died on the highway while traveling at 65 mph.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The vehicle check engine light came on and a message displayed "Reduced acceleration. Drive with care." My acceleration was very slow but that was the only symptom, although I was driving speeds under 55 MPH. I took the vehicle to GM with CEL Code P078 and they replaced the high pressure fuel rail. Two days later the CEL came on again with code P228B. I was driving on the highway when the message came on and I could not accelerate the vehicle. If I tried to push the gas pedal more than halfway, I would lose both speed and power. I could not maintain my highway speed very well and could only accelerate if I slightly pressed the gas pedal. This is a serious safety concern because it may cause an accident if I am not able to maintain speed on the freeway. Additionally, this is of concern because I rely on my vehicle to pull a camper, and with this condition, I would be a "sitting duck" with my family in the vehicle. GM continues to diagnosis the issue but has failed to respond in a timeline and satisfactory manner.

Everyone states it’s a huge problem and now they want to charge up to $1000 to replace the module it is not covered by warranty. I cannot even use my navigation my security all the things that OnStar provides due to this module problem they have it seems to be getting bigger and more widespread. We should not have to pay for something that has nothing to do with the warranty of the truck. It is a malfunction with OnStar and Chevrolet

Vehicle started making an odd noise and was immediately taken to the dealer. Engine light did come on after the noise started. Dealer confirmed that there was an issue with the camshaft/lifters and that they have had to perform this repairs to 8 other trucks with the same 6.2L engine. (Original repair bill is attached). Dealer performs the repairs, takes the truck for a test drive and within a few miles the engine completely seizes up stranding the truck in the middle of the road. They believe it was a separate issue that caused the engine to seize up and now after 12k of repairs I will also need to purchase a completely new engine. Currently waiting on the price and availability of a new engine but was told I may have to wait a long time since this is such a common issue there aren’t many available. The motor of our vehicle failed while driving on the interstate. The vehicle is at a dealership for repairs and should be available for inspection. With little to no warning our truck quickly went from 70 MPH to completely shut down. We had to go from the left lane on the interstate to the shoulder. In the process we were very close to a collision. We were also hauling our camper (2023 Forest River R-Pod 153, which has a dry weight of 3,421 lbs and we had no water in our fresh/grey/or black tanks). When we merged into the right lane our truck was going so slowly on the interstate that we were almost hit and honked at before we could get to the shoulder safely. The problem was confirmed by the dealership that is working on it. The motor spun 4 rod bearings and it was a total motor failure. The vehicle was/is still under warranty. The manufacturer, I would assume, has inspected it as we are receiving a full motor replacement. That motor has been and continues to be on back order with no ETA for 2 months now. There were no warnings in how the truck was running. There were no warnings on the dash, warning lights, or any indication that our truck was going to break down.

I remained there in the subfreezing temperatures with no heat in my truck for over 1.5 hours waiting for a tow through OnStar that never showed. A state trooper eventually pulled behind me because I was blocking traffic and then proceeded to call a different tow company which arrived about 15 minutes after he called. Motor seized while driving on freeway at 65 Mph. Coasted to the media on the freeway in the middle of a dividing highway. The highway patrol stopped and then left feeling unsafe. Dealer would not tear down without a $3000 release from me for labor, if not covered under warranty. This is now a federal investigation with this motor and over 86k complaints. I would also like to add, this happened to a new truck my son bought in 2021 Silverado trail boss so GM new about these motors and are still selling them!!!

ENGINE

Faulty coolant control valve causing reduced engine power at highway speeds and reduced acceleration caused unsafe operation on highway. Was unable to safely maneuver to right lane on highway to allow faster traveling traffic to pass. Fortunately was only about 5 miles from home and was able to operate the vehicle in "limp" mode after traffic cleared. There was no warning just during operation check engine light and reduced engine power displayed on the drivers information center. The vehicle is available for inspection with the defective part because GM can't source a replacement despite occurring nearly eight weeks ago. GM has authorized the warranty repair and is currently at a Chevrolet franchise dealership awaiting repair parts. The manufacture is aware of the issue and has accepted a manufacture engine part is the cause of the issue.

ENGINE

Engine seized at 330 miles. I’ve recently seen the investigation into crank bearing failure on the L87. We upfit new vehicles. This was a test truck. We pulled oil from another identical chassis with 10 miles on it and sent it in for testing to a 3rd party. At 100C/212F the viscosity was under 7 and it should be 20. It is our belief that GM has faulty bulk oil they’re putting in new vehicles.

There were no symptoms prior to the engine failure. On January 14th, 2025 while driving 58 miles per hour heard a sound that sounded like a slap on the back window. After the slap sound I noticed the engine was not running as normal. There was also a sound coming from the engine like metal rattling around. A few minutes later the check engine light appeared in the instrument panel. Had the vehicle towed to the nearest GM dealership and was informed that the thrust bearing went out which may have caused damage to the crankshaft.
