General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2015-2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, and 2014-2015 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles that may have received an incorrect replacement tensioner cable assembly as part of a previous recall remedy or a subsequent repair. The flexible steel cable connecting the driver's seat belt to the outboard side of the seat may be repeatedly bent over the seat side shield as the driver enters and exits the vehicle causing the cable to fatigue and separate.

Risk: A broken pretensioner cable reduces the effectiveness of the driver's seat belt, increasing the risk of injury.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.

Risk: Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUM

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.

Risk: As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.

Risk: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.

STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles. The vehicles may have a temporary loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist, especially during low-speed turning maneuvers.

Risk: If EPS assist is lost and then returns, the driver might lose temporary control of the steering wheel, increasing the risk of a crash.

When my speed decreases to slow for a turn, traffic, red light,etc-I lose complete power in my entire vehicle. A too fast message pops up on dash about Stabilitrak. If I throw it in neutral fast enough it’s fine, but if I don’t, my truck loses all power and I have to open and close my door, restart my truck, the dash tells me to open and close my driver window, and it drives again but my time and date restarts on my dash screen like I disconnected the battery. It doesn’t happen every day. But when it does, it’s scary because I can’t get out of the road. This occurs unexpectedly several times a month for the past few months. I’ve checked for loose battery cables, etc

Driving down the road and turning into my driveway, the power steering went out, the truck cut off - then after a few minutes, the truck started, then the display showed “Open then close driver window” & now displays “Service Power Steering, Drive With Care”

POWER TRAIN

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly shifted out of overdrive and the transmission shuddered. There were no warning lights illuminated. The dealer was contacted, and the contact was only able to leave a message but had not yet received a call back. POWER TRAIN

Why is/was there no investigation in to the torque converters in these vehicles? I have the 5.3L V8. Took it to a tranny shop and he has five on his lot, same transmission same generation all same issue. He says they start eating themselves and he has a few with only five digit mileage that he still needs to fix. A guy in my firehouse is a parts manager for a Chevy dealership and knows the part number for the transmission off the top of his head because they fly through them and he has 19 in stock. Luckily I'm a good driver and when the transmission gave out on the highway I was able to control and get over without my kids getting hurt. But that is two shops confirming this is an issue. It's a safety issue. An expensive safety issue. There's even a tranny guy on Facebook that says the same thing because these are mostly all he works on. I'm a bit shocked you all allowed this to pass through. Granted the shop said the American made parts in the torque converters are the ones failing, so it would look bad. But my kids could have been hurt if my wife was driving and couldn't control the truck. This is an epic failure. Five digit mileage trucks coming in for the same issue. He told me to keep up whatever maintenance I'm doing because coming in at 130k is the second highest he has seen.

SEAT BELTS

The whole tension rod of driver side seatbelt ripped off. Recall was issued I took to get done afterwards the seatbelt tension rod broke. I called dealer and Chevy and they say well we did the recall tuff luck! They knew it was about to break or almost broken and did nothing and gave me my truck back unsafe. I can’t use my car due to no seatbelt on driver side and they won’t own to their error.

the truck went in for the fuel injector number 6 again. went in on June 13 and on the 12 as well. on the 12 they said it was the number 6 coil. they then gave it back but the next day had to be returned again for the same problem. this time they found the number 6 fuel injector was possibly shorted out. the service manager did call and said that i was right that it was the fuel injector. i feel that i paid for a coil that should not have been replaced in the first place.

I believe Ray Chevrolet (Antioch, IL & Fox Lake, IL) are negligent in that they did not apply treatment as described in TSB #14002A while they had custody of our 2014 Chevy Silverado. The vehicle has been maintained mostly by the Fox Lake, IL location, but was purchased at the Antioch, IL location new. TSB #14002a clearly states that before the vehicle is released to the customer that the treatment should be applied. The vehicle has been maintained mostly at the Ray Chevrolet Fox Lake, Il 60020 dealership location over the past 10 or 11 years. Not once did any mechanic or service advisor mention TSB #14002A nor the deteriorating state of the truck's frame. This became a safety issue as described below. I was traveling on [XXX] which is under construction. I hit a bump and temporarily lost control of the vehicle. I also talked to my wife who also drives the vehicle. She said it sounded like an empty gas can was rolling around in the truck's bed. I took the vehicle into Ray Chevrolet at the Fox Lake, Il 60020 location and talked to a service advisor and told him about temporarily losing control of the vehicle and what my wife said about the loud bangs. We received notification from the Ray Chevrolet Fox Lake, Il dealership's service center via DM with a video attached. I watched the video and called the service advisor. The service advisor told me that the repair wasn't worth doing because it was more expensive to do than what the truck was worth. The same service advisor told my wife they would not do the repair which is replacing the truck's frame at an estimated cost of $15,000.00. He also told my wife that the truck is unsafe to drive. Because these service centers did not apply treatment either when the truck was purchased new or during the 10 or so years it's been serviced by these service centers, I believe these service centers have been negligent in their responsibilities to me and my wife. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where the upper part of the engine was rebuilt, and the lifters were replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 98,000.

The contact stated that while attempting to wear the front driver's side seat belt, the contact became aware that the lap belt was loose and that the seat belt lap pretensioner cable had separated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be covered under an unknown special coverage program due to the mileage. The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 30-65 MPH, the vehicle was shuddering abnormally. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced a failure with the torque converter. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

I was driving home from work on 5/9/2025 and my truck slowly started to loose power and I almost got rear ended going up a hill. NO check engine lights or symptoms noted prior I was able to make it to the Chevy Dealer here in town where i Live and dropped off. dealer noted cyl 4 has a misfireand there is a tick noise on that bank.checked and found no compression on cyl 4, removed valve cover and found that the lifter for cyl 4 is broken and pushrod bent. After reasearching found this to be a common problem, contacted Chevy reagarding this as truck is low miles (88k) NO help offered.

Seems there is a point of failure after around 50,000 miles on these transmissions.

ENGINE

While driving to work a month ago (3/19/25) I lost the power to accelerate out of nowhere. And my truck started making this noise, what I can only describe as a winding up noise while trying to accelerate. I was going 55mph on a busy morning commute. There were no warning lights. I pulled over and shut the truck off. Checked oil (even though it was changed a week or 2 prior). Oil was fine. Let truck sit for 10 mins then tried to turn back on, it started but had that winding up noise when just sitting in idle, the check engine light then came on after it was on for a minute or so. Ran codes at home, and truck started making an additional rattle noise on top of the winding up noise when had to be turned on. One code was the crankshaft position sensor, we changed that out. Then the truck wouldn't start. Taken to Dealership, and they said initially they found a broken connector to the engine harness. Fixed that then truck started but still making the rattle/clunk type noise and louder than at home so they continued diagnostics because they said the noise sounds like a rod knock, so rod either being bent/broken/slipping. Further diagnostics found that oil and coolant are mixed along with metal shavings through engine so new engine is needed.

SERVICE BRAKES

When going at low speeds like through a parking lot when I apply my brakes they get rock hard and do not want to stop. I can get it stopped but just barely. When going at normal driving speed 30mph plus they are fine and stop fine. I almost pulled into a car in a parking lot because I almost couldn't stop due to my brakes failing. This happens every time I go at low speeds 25mph and less

STRUCTURE:BODY

A well-documented and increasingly widespread problem related to excessive rust on the frames of many vehicles in this particular model year range. The cause of the problem appears to stem from a poorly applied or degrading wax coating, which, over time, peels off, leaving the frame exposed to corrosion, particularly in harsh weather conditions such as heavy snow and road salt exposure. The result is catastrophic—my Silverado’s frame and crossmembers are now severely compromised, and the integrity of the vehicle is in question.

POWER TRAIN

While driving on the interstate my truck starting slowing down fast and the engine RPM's went up. I pulled to the side and restarted the truck i would start driving then the truck would do the exact same thing. While all this was happening there was a burning smell in the truck. I brought the truck to an automotive mechanic and the found the transmission was bad. It is a very common problem with 2014 silverado 1500 trucks with the 6 speed transmission.

SERVICE BRAKES

The brake vacuum pump on the 2014-2018 chevy silverado has intermittent failures causing reduced brakes, which is a major safety issue. Gm has this listed under a "special coverage warrenty" instead of a recall and wont fix this because the warrenty ended 6/24 or 150k miles(mine onpy has 125k). Luckily I didn't have any traffic infront of me and the street light had just turned red and the cross traffic hadn't started to move yet. When I contacted gm about this I talked to 3 different representatives 2 were the initial points of contact, the first stated I would be reimbursed due to this being a safety issue, the second said the first was talking about a "general warrenty"...? The third was a supposed " supervisor who was obviously reading from a script and chose his words very carefully when telling me that because the speciap coverage warrenty was up GM wasn't going to do anything about this which is a leagal way of saying their are ok with this known issue on their trucks out in the world. Probably because it'll be cheaper to have their lawyers fight a lawsuit than to pay for the parts and labor to have this known safety issue fixed.

The contact stated that as a mechanic, he had inspected the vehicle and diagnosed that the water was leaking from the third brake light. The brakes feel squishy and it is difficult to stop at low speeds. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. Safety being put at risk by not being able to stop in time possibly causing crash. The truck was taken to a mechanic who found a code stating low vacuum pressure on brake booster but they could not find a leak anywhere and cleared the code. It is unknown if the component has been inspected by the manufacturer. Yes there has been a warning light before. It is unknown when exactly this problem started.

Vacuum pump failure, there is no vacuum going to the brake booster from the vacuum pump mounted on the front of the engine block driven by belt pulley.Has code co299-00 brake booster large vacuum leak detected. Pump is not creating vacuum no vacuum going to booster for power brakes.This is a recall.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

For months now wire harness part number 842-909-97, rear driver side passenger door wire harness. Wire and connector damage from being poorly manufactured, wire cracking and breaking apart. Waiting for new item availability, can't operate door locks, window. Dashboards light stay on. No dealership or parts supplier in country has any availability or previous part number to replace. Waiting on general motors to bring new wire harness to market. No eta and item is listed as backorder .Been an issue for years now. I can't open My back door in fear of not being able to lock the door and have trouble light stay off. I have a three-door vehicle now instead of four.truck is barley 10 years old. Cost a lot of money for this vehicle.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Rear window defroster overheated/caught on fire. It will be available for inspection unless GM rectifies the issue and removes the components in question. Cabin filled with smoke and a small fire broke out immediately behind the rear headrest/seatbelt location. Rear window section shattered, most of the glass is intact but some pieces were ejected. The problem has been reported to GM but is still in the investigation phase. The vehicle has not yet been inspected as I have just started the report filing with GM. No warnings, indicator lights, etc. were present before, during, or after the incident.

ENGINE

Ignition lock actuator faulty. Causing ingition to be stuck in start position.

Chevy and GMC pick-ups are having engines blow up because of a problem with the system that makes the pickup go from 8 cylinder to 4 cylinder. This needs to be looked into immediately. Chevy has taken no action/responsibility to alert people that this is a problem with their vehicles. At the advice of our mechanic, we purchased something that completely turns off the active fuel management or multiple displacement system. This is an almost certain problem waiting to happen. Chevy should be notifying people of the problem and offering to pay for the fix. Or maybe a recall should be issued. Please look into this.

VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER/HVAC SYSTEM

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated when the vehicle was started, the defroster was activated; however, the defroster failed to function as intended. The contact became aware that there was smoke inside the vehicle before hearing a loud sound and the rear glass then fractured. In addition, the contact's minor grandson was seated in the rear seat of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact was informed of an unknown recall however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal was hard and failed to go down after several attempts. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to decelerate by shifting into low gear, and the contact activated the hazard lights. The contact was able to drive to the residence in low gear, and the contact allowed the vehicle to roll to a stop. The contact stated inspected the brake booster, brake master cylinder, and the vacuum pump, and confirmed that there was no hydraulic leak found. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

I have experienced engine failure in my 2014 Silverado 6.2L on 3 separate occasions. All caused by the AFM system. Rockers lock into the wrong position while transforming from 4 cylinder to 8 cylinder operation. The first two occurrences bent lifters and caused a failure to the catalytic converter. A certified GM service department at a local dealership replaced parts covered by warranty. On the third occasion the rockers locked into the wrong position, bent push rods, damaged the cam shaft and caused a failure in the catalytic converter. It was taken to the same GM service department at Lou Fusz Chevrolet. My 5 year warranty had expired and GM refused to cover the parts they had previously replaced a year prior. I was quoted approximately $10k for repairs and $16k for full engine replacement. After some back and forth with the service department manager I requested to speak with the lead mechanic. He informed me that it was an AFM system problem he was very familiar with. He stated to me that I would be better off taking it to a private shop and bypassing the AFM system as he was “working on” 10-15 vehicles a month with the same issue. At the time I had reached out to GM corporate about the issue and I did not receive a correspondence. I have all of the paperwork and receipts and all other service records dating back to my purchase of the vehicle in 2018.

I called GM and the Lady told me that there 5 recalls on this truck of which 4 were taken care of. there still remains one left undone. I purchased this truck from a private owner. the one remaining is the seat belt wire issue. A new warning has appeared on the dash, saying service trailer brake system. This a non stop warning while driving the truck. Very distracting and dangerous. I looked on you tube to see if anyone has this problem. yes there are some. One incident stated that to resolve this issue, someone needed to check the trailer receptacle plugin for corrosion, or broken wires. IF all is good there check the other four connectors under the truck on the frame. Finally if these are all good, then check the fuse box under the hood for the fuse for this braking system. The representative that I talked to from GM said to take the vehicle to a local Dealer for analysis to see where the problem is in the trailer braking system. Dealer labor rates are high. The representative stated that there is a payment assistance program available through GM if a Dealer takes care of the situation. Is this true? I need this truck every day for work. The truck has been having the inactive airbag sign on for about the two years that we have had it.
