2010 CHEVROLET EQUINOX Complaints and Recall Information
The 2010 Chevrolet Equinox has 2 complaints and 3 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues involving engine performance and windshield wiper mechanisms. One owner described a loss of cylinder compression that caused the vehicle to enter limp mode while driving at highway speeds. Another complaint involves the windshield wiper mechanism popping out during use.
Common Issues- Engine oil consumption. Excessive oil consumption due to piston ring "blow by" leads to clogging of the catalytic converter.
- Loss of compression. Cylinder 3 lost compression resulting in reduced engine power and limp mode activation while driving.
- Customer service response. Manufacturer acknowledged the issue but declined recall coverage for the specific vehicle identification number involved.
- Windshield wiper mechanism failure. The wiper mechanism detached or popped out during operation, impacting visibility.
There are three recalls affecting this vehicle related to seat adjustment and ignition system safety. The recalls address hardware failures in power seat adjusters and defective electronic park lock levers that may impact transmission and ignition key removal. These defects potentially increase the risk of injury or crashes.
Recalls- Front power seat adjuster. (NHTSA Recall 14V447000) About 414,333 vehicles affected including 2010-2012 Equinox models may have loose bolts causing power seats to drop suddenly, increasing crash risk. GM notifies owners and replaces bolts free of charge.
- Electronic park lock lever. (NHTSA Recall 16V502000) Approximately 8,367 vehicles including 2010-2013 Equinox may allow key removal without transmission in PARK, risking vehicle rollaway. GM will inspect and replace key cylinder lock housing at no cost.
- Powertrain control module. (NHTSA Recall 16V502000) Same as previous recall number affecting ignition and transmission systems with defective components leading to rollaway hazards. Remedy involves free inspection and replacement by dealers.
Owners dealing with repeated engine failures, safety-related defects, or unresolved recall problems may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Legal consultation can provide guidance based on specific circumstances.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM)
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Buick Verano and 2016 Chevrolet Malibu as the electronic park lock lever may allow the ignition key to be removed without the transmission being in PARK. Also, certain 2013 Buick Encore, 2011 Buick Regal, 2013-2014 Buick Verano, 2011-2016 Chevrolet Cruze, 2010-2013 Chevrolet Equinox 2013-2015 Chevrolet Malibu, and 2011-2013 GMC Terrain vehicles may have been serviced with similar defective replacement electronic park lock levers. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."
Risk: If the key is removed without the transmission in PARK, the vehicle may rollaway as occupants are exiting, increasing the risk of injury.

SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:POWER ADJUST
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Buick LaCrosse, Regal and Chevrolet Camaro, as well as certain 2010-2012 Cadillac SRX, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles, equipped with power height adjustable driver and passenger seats. In the affected vehicles, the bolt that secures the driver's and passenger's power front seat height adjuster may fall out causing the seat to drop suddenly to the lowest vertical position.
Risk: If the driver's seat unexpectedly drops, the distraction and altered seat position may affect the drivers' control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Windshield wipers mechanism popped on my Chevy equinox.

This 2010 Chevy Equinox has the 2.4 liter motor that is recalled in similar vehicles by Chevrolet due to the piston rings having “blow by”. We have had to carry a quart of oil because of the constant consumption of oil, which led to the catalytic converter getting clogged. Most recently while traveling to Denver cylinder 3 lost compression and put the vehicle into “limp mode” on [XXX] (XXX) with traffic traveling at 75MPH and our car doing 20 MPH trying to exit. I spoke to Chevy customer service several years ago and was told “Yes we know the issue however your VIN isn’t part of our recall, we’ve satisfied the NHTSB call for action”. In my research loss of compression due to “blow by” can be direct correlation to engine failure. Oil was checked as I always do before any road trip, no engine lights or warning signs were present, we were 210 miles from home when this happened, and had to rent a car to continue our trip to Denver and return home to retrieve a truck and trailer to pick up our broken down vehicle located in Silverthorne.
