2019 CHEVROLET CRUZE Complaints and Recall Information
The 2019 CHEVROLET CRUZE has 4 complaints and 2 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with warning lights related to engine power reduction and airbag restraint system malfunctions. There is also a complaint about timing chain noise caused by a lack of motor oil at early morning start-up, which can lead to engine damage.
Common Issues- Timing chain rattling. The timing chain tensioner lacks motor oil during early morning starts, causing the chain to become loose and potentially damage the engine.
- Engine power reduction warning. A warning light signals reduced engine power, causing the vehicle to lose propulsion while driving.
- Airbag warning light. The airbag restraint system light remains on continuously, raising safety concerns for the driver.
- Repeated warning light activation. Multiple owners report persistent warning lights for engine power and airbags throughout the lease period.
Two recalls exist for this vehicle that address transmission and brake system components. The recalls focus on powertrain and braking safety.
Recalls- Transmission accumulator bolts. (NHTSA 20V668000) This recall affects 194,105 vehicles, including the 2019 Cruze. Missing bolts on the start-stop accumulator endcap can cause transmission oil leaks and loss of propulsion, increasing crash risk. A transmission fluid leak near ignition sources raises fire hazards. Dealers inspect and replace the accumulator if bolts are missing at no cost.
- Rear brake caliper pistons. (NHTSA 18V576000) The recall covers 210,628 vehicles including 2019 Cruze models. Insufficient piston coating may cause gas pockets and reduce rear brake performance, increasing crash risk. Dealers bleed the brake system free of charge to restore function.
Owners facing repeated warning lights, safety system malfunctions, or unresolved recall repairs may want to review their rights under their state’s lemon law. Legal consultation can help determine potential remedies for persistent defects.

Timing chain rattles, due the the chain tensioner not having motor oil at early morning start-up. This causes the chain to be loose and eventually engine damage. Europe already issued recalls to this issue. They solved this issue by installing a seal, TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FOR CHEVROLET GMC OPEL FEBI BILSTEIN 181945.
