2014 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Complaints and Recall Information
The 2014 CHEVROLET CORVETTE has 2 complaints and 11 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners commonly report issues with electric power-steering assist failure resulting in loss of power steering and increased steering effort. Another complaint involves unintended acceleration where the vehicle unexpectedly jumped forward and accelerated on its own, causing crashes and repeated repairs.
Common Issues- Power steering failure. Electric power-steering assist fails while driving, causing loss of power steering and a warning message. Restarting the vehicle temporarily restores function before failure recurs.
- Unintended acceleration. Vehicle accelerates suddenly without warning, leading to crashes. Repairs were attempted but the issue persisted multiple times. The dealer noted foreign substance on the accelerator pedal.
There are 11 recalls affecting various systems including suspension, seat belts, and air bag modules. These recalls address defects such as rear shock absorber welds, sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software faults that deactivate airbags and seat belt pretensioners, and passenger air bag risk for unbelted children. Most fixes involve free replacement or software updates performed by dealers.
Recalls- Rear shock absorbers. (NHTSA 14V377000) About 1,939 vehicles have rear shock absorber tubes that may separate due to improper welds. Sudden handling changes increase crash risk. Dealers replace both rear shock absorbers free of charge.
- Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) short circuit. (NHTSA 14V299000) Affects 33 vehicles with internal short circuits causing airbags and seat belt pretensioners to deactivate. Risk of injury increases in crashes. Dealers replace the SDM at no charge.
- Passenger-side impact air bag. (NHTSA 14V342000) Affects 712 vehicles with optional sport seats not meeting child injury protection standards during side crashes. Unbelted children face higher neck injury risks. Dealers replace the passenger air bag free; small children should not ride unbelted or in front seat.
- SDM software failure. (NHTSA 16V651000) Over 3.6 million vehicles including 2014-2017 Corvettes have software issues that activate a diagnostic test, preventing frontal air bag and pretensioner deployment. Risk of injury increases. Dealers reflash SDM software or replace SDM if airbags were deployed. Repairs free of charge.
- SDM software update incomplete. (NHTSA 17V437000) About 40,683 vehicles previously repaired under 16V651000 may not have received a full update. The same airbag and pretensioner deployment risks apply. Dealers will perform complete software reflashing or SDM replacement free of charge.
Owners with repeated repairs due to power steering failure, unintended acceleration, or unresolved recall issues involving critical safety systems may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a qualified attorney specialized in lemon law could provide guidance for persistent defects or safety risks.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
Risk: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.

The contact owned a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that while trying to get out of parallel parking, the accelerator was depressed, and the vehicle jumped. There were no warning lights illuminated. As a result, the vehicle crashed into the vehicle that was in front. The contact snapped her neck. No medical assistance was needed. No police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired however the failure persisted four more times. On a separate occasion, the vehicle would accelerate on its own without any reason, the contact would turn the vehicle off and back on, to drive the vehicle back to normal conditions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where unknown repairs were completed. The dealer informed the contact that the gas pedal had glue on it. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,400.

The electric power-steering assist is failing while my vehicle is in motion. I lose power steering and have to use significantly more effort and may lead to a crash, at any speeds. I was driving on the highway when this happened, although it has happened at slower, neighborhood speeds. When this happens, I see a warning message on the dashboard stating the power-steering assist failed and service power steering, drive with caution and the steering is all non-power steering. At times, when I stop the car, and turn the power off, and re-start the car, the power steering works again for a short period of time, and then fails again. This is extremely dangerous. I cannot find any recalls on my car VIN # for this issue for the 2014 Corvette, but see the exact symptoms for the 2017 Corvette (GM' number for this recall is N182182760). Help....please!
