General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles. The front wheel hub bolts may have been over-tightened and damaged during installation.

Risk: Damaged bolts may loosen or break, which can result in a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.

SEAT BELTS:CRITICAL FASTENERS

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Chevrolet Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon vehicles. The left or right front seat may have a seat belt buckle attachment bolt that was not tightened properly.

Risk: A loose seat belt may not properly restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

The right turn signal will click for a left turn after completing its right turn without physically pressing the turn signal. Has happened since buying vehicle, continues to happen now. Turn signal was replaced by dealership, problem not resolved. Have reconfirmed problem with dealership service manager as well as video evidence of issue. Issue happens at all speeds, idle to freeway speeds.

The vehicle engine will sputter and jolt forward and attempt to go to a higher or lower gear when approaching the stop . Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?The problem is reproducible, but the dealership is stating i would need a check engine light to have it serviced or seen. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No visible alerts of fault when issue occurs or thereafter.

SERVICE BRAKES

The right front brake caliper failed with 15747 miles. Local dealer made repairs and said the caliper was not the cause. Their cause was blaming a brake controller used in towing the vehicle. If the controller had caused the failure more than one wheel would of been effected. The three remaining wheels all showed fine and had over 7mm of brake lining remaining. The wheel effected had ZERO pad remaining. I have replaced parts in my possession for evidence.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle decelerated from 70 MPH to 30 MPH. During the failure the check engine and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed an engine cylinder misfire. No further information was available. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced by the dealer on several occasions for the failure however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,000.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer for a routine oil change and after the vehicle was serviced, the contact was provided a multi-point vehicle inspection sheet which showed that the brake pads had received a green check mark and that the brake pads were 7-millimeters or greater on both the driver’s and passenger’s side. The next day upon start of the vehicle, the contact stated that a message "New Brake Pads Detected" question was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact selected the "No" option followed by another question to service the brake pads. The contact then stated that a "Service Brake Pad Monitoring System" message appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the dealer was informed of the messages. A mechanic inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that both the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed that the brake pads were 2 millimeters or less, despite the contact receiving information the day prior which stated otherwise. The contact questioned the dealer about the discrepancy and was informed that the computer provided the results for the multi-point vehicle inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 27,000.

SERVICE BRAKES

Vehicle shaking very badly when braking. Then “Service Brake Monitor” message displays. Took it to a Chevy dealership who said my rotors were warped. Turns out many people are complaining about it on Reddit. I purchased vehicle with less than 20k miles on it and it was a Chevy certified used vehicle. I don’t feel safe driving it and Chevy will not foot the bill. This could potentially be dangerous for other drivers and my guess is the parts are defective or something other than “driving conditions” are at play. This should not be happening!

I have been having intermittent issues with a warning on dash says service safety retrain system vehicle will shut off on its own doesn't want to restart Vehicle was taken to dealership for a tsb as well as the shutoff issue they had the truck 28 days said they diagnosed the truck could not duplicate my concerns I also explained the issue with display going out flickering brake lights etc, intermittent issue with btakes being hard then extremely soft, i even showed video that they can clearly hear me talking on they did not care. when I picked the truck up from dealership the mileage in was same as mileage out as noted on the paperwork and matches pictures I took They never drove the truck. On Wednesday June 4, 2025 while driving home I ended up running a stop sign and barely missing a car because truck shut off causing my brakes to not respond I was able to get it to stop just in time it was witnessed by a local law enforcement agency I showed the officer my truck would not start and pedal was unresponsive was told it had to be towed had a friend tow to my house. on Saturday June 14, 2025 while on my way to Northern Duchess Hospital the warning came on the display and vehicle shut off I was able to get it off the road could not start it had to call for someone to drive me to the hospital upon release at 5am I had to call my brother to pick me up we got truck to start after 20 mins while driving it he informed me I had no brake lights turn signals or headlight the display was black no speedometer nothing had to call friend to tow again once at my house he started checking fuses found 4 melted fuses one was ECM the others were body control module and something else this truck has 7300 miles on it the problems are getting worse last time at dealership service manager stated he wasn't wasting more than 20 minutes on diagnosing anything. Other issues are windows going down on there own climate controls coming on by itself and air coming in by top of windshield

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving through a carwash, the roof suddenly became concaved. Upon leaving the carwash the roof suddenly made a loud pop and returned to the normal position. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a structural failure with the roof. The vehicle was not repaired. When making right turn with blinker on, after completing turn, blinker automatically turns on left blinker. Difficult to turn off. Sometime blinker stalk sticks, and I can't turn either blinker back on.

ENGINE

Upper radiator hose rubber grommet failing at 22k. Had a severe coolant leak coming from top radiator hose blowing back onto hot motor which could have turned into a fire quickly. I was lucky! A lot of GMC Canyons and Colorado's are all reporting the same problem around 22k miles. It is currently at Grossman Chevy Old Saybrook, CT for repair.

POWER TRAIN

i have a 2023 Colorado and its only got 69,000 miles. my Crank shaft seal went out with no warnings. No dash lights or oil lights. ive read online where is this has happened to a few colorados. I had 0 oil on my dipstick and didn't have one check engine light on.

SERVICE BRAKES

My husband and I were flat towing our vehicle on April 12, 2025. We had been traveling about 120 miles when the breaks on truck suddenly locked up, causing us to drag the vehicle for several feet before someone flagged us down and alerted us about what was happening. Our motor home is a 45' Class A, with a 525 horse power engine. If this happens while towing, we may not know it was happening until something catastrophic happened. If it happened while driving we could be seriously injured.

POWER TRAIN

Transmission shifts very hard from first to second and from second to first. This occurs on the first shift of the day. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer twice and was told that, according to Chevy, this is “normal” operation.

I was driving down the highway going about 75mph in the left lane. The engine quickly started going down through the gears as the engine was shutting down. I was able to get it to the right side in very heavy traffic. I had to be towed. It took a 5 day repair and replacement of the fuel pump power control module. Warranty

Was driving approx 30 mph down road when alert/light flashing for crash detection. At the same the brakes slammed on causing the wheel to pull to the right and pulling the wheel from my hands. This sudden stop was abrupt enough to leave seatbelt mark on shoulder. There was no car in front or behind me in my lane of travel. There were no people on either side of the road walking. I have had the light go off a few times with the bell but no sudden braking until an update was run last night. Which according to the Chevy recall was for ECM issue. Recall software update N242452130. I called the dealer , spoke the service manager Mike and told him what happened. He tells me him and his wife bought a 2024 Chevy Equinox that did the exact same thing. Ok, how is that supposed to make me feel better? The braking was violent and if it happened in city traffic I have no question in my mind that would have been a [XXX] crash. Every single time there is an update push there is a problem. This has been the worst. after looking up the VIN does not show part of the original recall from your agency. FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Fuel mileage is way lower then it should be I get 13.1 mpg and already had to replace one fuel injector

When activation of the turn signal for a righthand turn. The signal will blink properly until physically completing the turn to the right, as soon as steering wheel is turned to the left to straighten the steering wheel the turn signal switch will turn off right directional signal but will then instantly activate the lefthand directional signal. Sometimes the lefthand signal will blink several times and turn off by itself. Occasionally the turn signal activation lever will need lifted up to turn it off. This does not happen every time the turn signal is used but will normally happen during a typical drive making multiple righthand turns. This is very distracting to the driver and can cause confusion to pedestrians and oncoming or trailing vehicles.

The collision avoidance system quit working. The warning light was displayed on the instrument cluster but no other warnings were sounded. After taking it to the dealer for repairs, they got the light to go out by downloading another software version, but it did not fix the problem. It only removed the light. The truck still would not give a warning when approaching another vehicle too fast or get too close at certain speeds. The dealer has kept it so far a total of 12 days and have yet to fix the problem.

The contact checked the fluids and noticed that the oil dipstick was completely dry. In addition, the contact investigated and noticed that the oil had leaked all over the surface of the oil pan. The contact stated that the oil change warning light was later illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that the failure had occurred after leaving the dealer and an unknown recall repair was performed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact referenced a Customer Satisfaction Program; however, the vehicle was not included. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 49,900.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

In January of 2024, my husband was driving our 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. he was pulling onto our street driving approimately 5 mph. The vehicle suddenly stopped for no apparent reason. AT this time, we did not file a complaint because it was a minor incident and no one was hurt. We brought the vehicle into the Chevrolet dealership for a safety recall for the front cameras . On [XXX] I was driving at 830am on a highway in the fast lane. No other vehicles were near me in my direction. No one was in front of me, besides me or behind me. I was driving approximately 57mph on a very clear and calm morning. My 2023 Chevrolet Colorado came to an abrupt stop for no reason at all. No lights flashed on my dashboard, the vehicle did not shake, warning me that I was shifting lanes (because I was not), nothing came on at all. I was given zero warning that the vehicle was abruptly stopping. I have severe whiplash and have been undergoing treatment for this trauma. No police report was filed because there was no damage done to the vehicle. I immediately called, reported and turned the vehicle into the local Chevrolet dealership here in Reno, Nevada. GM's third party did a full investigative report, pulled the black box from the vehicle on December 15th, 2024 and just today, 70 days after the claim, GM informed us that they want to buy the vehicle back. SERVICE BRAKES

In January of 2024, my husband was driving our 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. he was pulling onto our street driving approimately 5 mph. The vehicle suddenly stopped for no apparent reason. AT this time, we did not file a complaint because it was a minor incident and no one was hurt. We brought the vehicle into the Chevrolet dealership for a safety recall for the front cameras . On [XXX] I was driving at 830am on a highway in the fast lane. No other vehicles were near me in my direction. No one was in front of me, besides me or behind me. I was driving approximately 57mph on a very clear and calm morning. My 2023 Chevrolet Colorado came to an abrupt stop for no reason at all. No lights flashed on my dashboard, the vehicle did not shake, warning me that I was shifting lanes (because I was not), nothing came on at all. I was given zero warning that the vehicle was abruptly stopping. I have severe whiplash and have been undergoing treatment for this trauma. No police report was filed because there was no damage done to the vehicle. I immediately called, reported and turned the vehicle into the local Chevrolet dealership here in Reno, Nevada. GM's third party did a full investigative report, pulled the black box from the vehicle on December 15th, 2024 and just today, 70 days after the claim, GM informed us that they want to buy the vehicle back. EXTERIOR LIGHTING

With right turn signal engaged and immediately after making every right turn, the vehicle's left turn signal flashes for a number of seconds for no reason. Dealers cannot fix this issue and have advised filing NHTSA complaint.

STEERING

Turn signal indicator blinks in opposite direction. When turning right and completing the turn the indicator blinks left causing confusion to other drivers who assume I’m turning left. On several occasions cars have pulled out in front of me nearly colliding. After many attempts to fix the problem the GM dealer replaced turn signal switches but the problem still persists.
