Recalls
  • Windshield wiper motor. NHTSA recall 14V375000 affects 4,794 vehicles. The gear teeth on the wiper motor may strip causing the windshield wipers to stop working, reducing visibility in rain or snow. Dealers will inspect and replace the wiper module assembly as needed at no cost.
  • Ignition system. Recall 14V540000 covers 47,043 vehicles. The ignition key can be accidentally knocked out of the run position by the driver’s knee, causing engine shutdown and disabling airbags. The key blade will be modified to prevent this issue. Drivers should adjust seats and steering columns until repairs are made.
  • Transmission shift lever and linkage. Recall 14V544000 impacts 7,598 police patrol vehicles. Two pins in the transmission selector lever can become displaced, allowing the vehicle to shift from Park without pressing the brake pedal or the key to be removed without the transmission being in Park. This raises risks of unintended vehicle motion and rollaway. Dealers replace shift lever pins and install a retention clip free of charge.
  • Transmission gear position indicator. Recall 14V544000 also includes the gear position indication system in the same 7,598 police patrol vehicles. The defect and fix match the transmission shift lever recall as they share the same NHTSA campaign number.
  • Seat belt tensioner assembly. Recall 15V399000 involves 47,042 vehicles. Steel cables connecting seat belts at the driver and front passenger seats may bend and break from being sat on while entering the vehicle, compromising occupant restraint. Dealers replace the seat belt tensioner assembly with improved components to prevent cable breakage.

Owners with repeated repairs or ongoing safety defects related to these recalls may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting an attorney familiar with consumer protection and lemon law is advisable for unresolved issues linked to safety or mechanical defects.

SEAT BELTS

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles manufactured October 15, 2010, to October 22, 2013, and 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 vehicles manufactured July 25, 2007, to February 18, 2009. In the affected vehicles, the flexible steel cables that connect the seat belts to the vehicle at the outside of the driver seat and the front passenger seat may be bent from being sat on while entering the vehicle. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL)

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles manufactured March 24, 2011, to December 6, 2013. The affected vehicles are Police Patrol Vehicles (PPV), equipped with a specific transmission selector lever that contains two pins that can become displaced. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards No. 102, "Transmission Shift Position Sequence, Starter Interlock, And Transmission Braking Effect", and No. 114, "Theft Protection And Rollaway Prevention."

Risk: If the transmission can be moved from "Park" without depressing the brake pedal, unintended motion may occur increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the ignition key can be removed without the transmission being in "Park," the vehicle may roll away, increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
