2014 CHEVROLET CAMARO Complaints and Recall Information

The 2014 CHEVROLET CAMARO has 2 complaints and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners report issues primarily related to the ignition key fob, including difficulty removing the key after turning off the car. Several attempts or restarting the vehicle may be required to free the key.

Common Issues
  • Key fob removal failure. The key does not return fully to the unlock position after the car is turned off, preventing removal. The vehicle must be restarted and shut off again to release the key.

The 2014 Camaro is subject to 4 recalls affecting labels, ignition, and steering components. These address safety risks related to air bag warnings, accidental engine shutdown, and potential steering failure.

Recalls
  • Air bag warning label. (NHTSA 13284, campno 13V463000) A total of 18,941 vehicles manufactured between June and September 2013 have a defect where the air bag warning label on the sun visor may peel off. This noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208 increases injury risk by failing to warn occupants about air bag deployment. Dealers replace the sun visor free of charge.
  • Ignition key dislodging. (NHTSA 14294, campno 14V346000) Affecting 464,712 vehicles from model years 2010 to 2014, the driver’s knee may accidentally knock the ignition key out of the run position, shutting off the engine. This disables airbags and power controls, raising crash risk. GM provides new keys and removes the key blade from original assemblies. Drivers are advised to adjust seating to avoid contact until fixed.
  • Steering component fasteners. (NHTSA 14378, campno 14V409000) In 106 vehicles, improperly torqued fasteners on the steering intermediate shaft or lower control arm may cause separation. Loss of steering control can result, increasing the danger of a crash. Dealers inspect and correct torque on affected fasteners at no cost.
  • Replacement ignition key safety. (NHTSA N192223230, campno 19E064000) About 10,740 replacement flip-key ignition assemblies sold as parts may still pose the risk of accidental engine shutdown due to the key being dislodged by the knee. This recall follows the original ignition key recall 14V346000. Dealers will inspect and replace these keys with a flat blade design free of charge. Interim owner notifications were sent in 2019 with repairs beginning in 2020.

Owners facing repeated repairs related to ignition or steering safety defects or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state lemon laws. Considering legal counsel might help clarify options available in such cases.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain replacement flip-key ignition transmitter assemblies sold as replacement equipment for 2010-2015 Chevrolet Camaro vehicles. GM dealers may have inadvertently sold these assemblies as replacement keys despite them having been recalled under NHTSA recall number 14V-346 (GM number 14294) when they were the original equipment assemblies. The driver may accidentally bump the ignition key with their knee, moving the ignition out of the run position and turning off the engine.

Risk: Once the engine is off, the vehicle can lose power steering and power braking, increasing the risk of a crash. The air bags may not deploy in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

STEERING

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014 Buick Regal, Cadillac XTS, Chevrolet Camaro and Chevrolet Impala vehicles. Improperly torqued fasteners may cause the steering intermediate shaft and the steering gear and/or the lower control arm and the lower ball joint to separate.

Risk: If any of the components separate, the vehicle may have a loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling all 2010-2014 Chevrolet Camaro vehicles manufactured December 3, 2008 to May 23, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the driver may accidentally hit the ignition key with their knee, unintentionally knocking the key out of the run position, turning off the engine.

Risk: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position could cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS

General Motors (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013 and 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Coupes manufactured June 9, 2013, through September 6, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the required air bag warning label on the sun visor may peel off. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208 "Occupant Crash Protection."

Risk: If the air bag warning label detaches from the visor, the driver and front seat passenger may not be warned of the risks of air bag deployment, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
