2007 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE Complaints and Recall Information

The 2007 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE has 3 complaints and 6 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the airbag warning system indicating the passenger airbag is disabled. Some also mention problems related to dashboard cracking which affects recall repairs.

Common Issues
  • Airbag warning light. The airbag warning remains on, indicating the passenger airbag is disabled and possibly malfunctioning.
  • Passenger airbag inflator. Replacement of the passenger airbag inflator has been delayed due to dashboard damage obstructing access.
  • Cracked dashboard. Owners report cracked dashboards preventing proper repair or replacement of safety components like the airbag inflator.
  • Washer fluid heater removal. Some owners have had to remove the windshield washer fluid heater themselves due to recall service unavailability locally.

There are 6 recalls affecting systems including the electrical system and the passenger airbag inflator module. The recalls address risks such as fire from the heater module and serious injury from defective airbag inflators.

Recalls
  • Heated washer fluid module. (NHTSA 10V240000) Affects 1,365,070 vehicles including 2007 Avalanche models. The module can experience thermal incidents causing plastic melting or ignition, possibly leading to fire. Dealers disable and remove the heated washer fluid module permanently free of charge.
  • Passenger airbag inflator (Zone A). (NHTSA 21V050000) Affects 2,641,272 vehicles including 2007 Avalanche models in specific states. Inflators may explode due to propellant degradation, risking sharp metal fragments causing serious injury or death. Dealers replace the inflator free of charge; owner notifications were sent starting February and March 2021.
  • Passenger airbag inflator (Zone B and C). (NHTSA 21V052000) Covers 557,023 vehicles including 2007 Avalanche models in various states. Similar risk of inflator explosion from propellant degradation applies. GM will replace the inflators at no cost. Owner notifications were mailed starting February and September 2021.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs for safety-related defects or unresolved recall issues should consider their rights under state lemon law protections. These laws may provide options for vehicles with persistent unresolved problems affecting safety or reliability.

GM IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006-2009 BUICK, LUCERNE; CADILLAC DTS; HUMMER H2; MODEL YEAR 2008-2009 BUICK ENCLAVE; CADILLAC CTS; MODEL YEAR 2007-2009 CADILLAC ESCALADE, ESCALADE ESV, ESCALADE EXT; CHEVROLET AVALANCHE, SILVERADO, SUBURBAN, TAHOE; GMC ACADIA, SIERRA, YUKON, YUKON XL; SATURN OUTLOOK; AND MODEL YEAR 2009 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A HEATED WASHER FLUID SYSTEM (HWFS). HOWEVER, THERE HAVE BEEN NEW REPORTS OF THERMAL INCIDENTS ON HWFS MODULES AFTER THIS IMPROVEMENT WAS INSTALLED. THESE INCIDENTS RESULTED FROM A NEW FAILURE MODE ATTRIBUTED TO THE DEVICE'S THERMAL PROTECTION FEATURE. THE SIGNIFICANCE VARIES FROM MINOR DISTORTION TO CONSIDERABLE MELTING OF THE PLASTIC AROUND THE HWFS FLUID CHAMBER.

Risk: IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE HEATED WASHER MODULE TO IGNITE AND A FIRE MAY OCCUR.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

First recall, Only dealer on Island (Hawaii) went out of business and couldn't be done by a GM dealer. Windshield washer fluid heater was removed by a mechanic shop at my own expense. Second recall, The passenger airbag inflator hasn't been done due to the fact that 2007 - 2014 Chevy Avalanche, Tahoe, Suburban & GMC Yukon are known for cracked dashboards which includes my Avalanche. My dashboard was cracked before the airbag recall and I covered the dashboard with fiberglass mat and resin to repair it as a new dashboard was not covered by warranty and exceeded over $2,000.00 to replace. The area to access the airbag is sealed and would require a new dashboard. There is now a new Chevy dealer here that can do the recall but I would have to pay the cost to replace the dashboard so it hasn't been done as I'm not able or willing to pay for the additional expense.
