The 2017 CAN-AM SPYDER RT has 2 complaints and 3 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to recall repairs being delayed or denied based on mileage. Some also express safety concerns about riding the vehicle while awaiting recall repairs.

Common Issues
  • Recall repair denial. Owners reported that recall repairs were denied once the vehicle exceeded a certain mileage, despite concerns that the defect could still present a risk.
  • Dealership scheduling delays. Some owners reported that dealerships limit the number of recall repairs performed monthly, causing extended wait times and safety concerns for riders.

There are three recalls affecting the 2017 CAN-AM SPYDER RT. These recalls address power train components and exterior lighting systems, affecting drive power and headlight alignment.

Recalls
  • Power train output shaft. NHTSA recall 24V728000 affects 8,721 vehicles and involves a fatigue defect in the engine output shaft that can break and cause loss of drive power, increasing crash risk. The remedy replaces the output shaft based on mileage. Owners were notified by February 5, 2025, and the recall does not include a Do Not Drive advisory.
  • Front sprocket wear. NHTSA recall 22V352000 affects 30,389 vehicles. The front sprocket may prematurely wear, resulting in loss of drive power and a higher risk of crash. Dealers perform an interim repair until replacement parts are available, after which the front sprocket is replaced free of charge. Owners were notified by May 26, 2022.
  • Headlight beam alignment. NHTSA recall 17V318000 affects 94 vehicles and concerns a manufacturing error causing headlights to shine too high on low beam, which could blind oncoming traffic and increase crash risk. The fix involves replacing defective headlights. Notifications began June 8, 2017.

Owners with repeated repairs, ongoing safety defects, or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a legal professional familiar with consumer protection and lemon law may help clarify these rights.

Dealership can not do recall until December 2025. Was told service department is only doing 1 recall per month per management. I'm [XXX] and bought this motorcycle from this dealership. I find this totally unacceptable to be only doing 1 recall a month. I was told it was ok to ride bike and PROBABLY doing would happen, which does not make me feel safe at all to ride.
