2022 CADILLAC XT5 Complaints and Recall Information
The 2022 CADILLAC XT5 has 4 complaints and 1 recall filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report incidents involving unintended acceleration in reverse resulting in collisions with parked cars. There is also a complaint regarding the rearview camera guidelines being very faint or difficult to see, complicating parking maneuvers.
Common Issues- Unintended acceleration in reverse. Multiple owners report the vehicle rapidly accelerating backward without pressing the accelerator, causing it to hit parked cars on more than one occasion.
- Crash response failure. Airbags did not deploy during reported collisions involving unintended acceleration, preventing activation of the crash computer system.
- Rearview camera visibility. One owner states the backup camera lines and guidelines are faint and hard to see, impacting safe maneuvering in reverse. Dealer confirmed the camera was working as designed and could not duplicate the issue.
The XT5 is subject to one recall affecting the automatic transmission component. The recall involves a defect that could cause loss of drive power or unintended vehicle rollaway.
Recalls- Automatic transmission sun gear. NHTSA recall number 23V172000 affects 8,744 vehicles including the 2022 CADILLAC XT5. An incorrect sun gear in the transmission may cause the driver-side half-shaft to disengage, resulting in loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway when placed in park. This defect increases the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the sun gears free of charge. Owner notifications were mailed July 27, 2023, and the remedy became available August 31, 2023.
Owners dealing with repeated unintended acceleration incidents or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. It is advisable to document all repair attempts and communications regarding safety defects.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Cadillac XT6, GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Blazer, Traverse, and 2022-2023 Cadillac XT5 vehicles. The transmission may have been built with an incorrect sun gear, which can result in the driver-side half-shaft disengaging from the transmission.
Risk: A half-shaft disengaging from the transmission can result in a loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway when the vehicle is placed in park. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

The contact owns a 2022 Cadillac XT5. The contact stated that the back-over prevention camera lines were very faint. The contact was unable to see the guidelines or the markings. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to fix the vehicle. The vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the rearview camera was operating as designed. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The mechanic informed the contact that the dimming of the camera was normal operation while reversing. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact sent an email to the manufacturer, but no response was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.

I was backing out of a parking space in reverse as I have done multiple times and the second I took my foot off the brake pedal to go into reverse, my car shot out at a high speed and hit a parked car on the other side of the street. Not realizing that there was an auto malfunction, I attempted to turn around my car to see the damage to the other car and when I went into reverse again to turn around, the car sped up again at high speed, did a 180 degree turn in reverse and hit two additional parked cars. Luckily, no one was hurt. I am 100% certain that I did not depress the accelerator pedal to cause the car to go at that speed in reverse twice! We contacted General Motors which supposedly had their engineers look at the mechanicals of the car but the only information we received from them is that the car did accelerate both times at 99% of capacity. The air bags did not deploy so the crash computer did not activiate. GM either did not examine the soft ware on the car, or, if they did, that information was not shared with us. If I had been in a crowded parking lot, the consequences could have been catastophic.
