ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

So I bought this Cadillac Escalade V 2023 with about 26k miles on it and I only had the vehicle for about 13 days and I got a light on my dash board and I had a mechanic check this for me and he told me that the whole entire break system was failing and needed to be replaced so I then took it back to the dealership I bought it from and they told me they had no idea since it was a certified pre owned and we where all confused about this situation and I was very unhappy that I paid 128k $ for a car and the dealer told me they could fix the issue or take the offer of 105k$ he offered me and of course because I did not want to have this problem I got rid of this vehicle as quick as possible I did not notice anything wrong with the car physically but I had that check engine light on with 13 days of owning

Sometime during the month of May, 2015, I received a letter in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act in reference to a recall for the 6.2L V8 gas engine (RPO L87) that applies to my vehicle. I have reached out to Randy Marion Cadillac, 4700 Southside Blvd.m Jacksonville, Fl., 32216, on several occasions, but to no avail. I spoke with service department personnel who, could not provide any information concerning the recall and informed me that they would have the service manager to call me. However, after 3 months, I have yet to receive a response from the service manager or any other service personnel. On Monday, 08-26-25, I logged into my Cadillac app and searched under Recalls and Warranties and noticed a message indicating there were no incomplete recalls. Prior to my last log-in, there was informed acknowledgeing the recall and that my vehicle would be inspected as a result. I am confused and have major concerns about my recall status and the lack of communication from the Cadillac dealership. Can someone shed some light as to why there are no recalls that are displayed on my Cadillac app and what other steps that I need to take in order to remedy this matter. Thank you! Recall Info: The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure. If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. This information creates anxiety for myself and my wife who already suffers from a medically documented anxiety disorder every day that we drive somewhere. Because of the location of our residence, we have to drive on the highway most of the time for convenience which exaggerates this situation. We have owned/leased GM vehicles our entire lives and particularly Cadillac for the last 24 years. We own this vehicle out right and planned to keep it indefinitely. The fact that there is no immediate remedy for this situation and one day possibly providing a higher viscosity oil, an oil filter replacement and requiring a new oil fill cap is very disappointing and insulting for a vehicle that we had to wait for and then pay over $130,000 for. At this point, thank God there is no incident, I would like to keep it that way and would like to have an immediate resolution of possible switching from our 2023 model to a comparable 2025 and be reassured that it does not have these mechanical defects with no additional costs incurred on my part.

My vehicle was recalled under N252494002 L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion. The car was taken to the dealership June 19, 2025 and determined to require a engine replacement. The dealer has had the vehicle for a month without repair of the vehicle. This seems like an unreasonable time to replace the engine.

WHEELS

The front upper control arm on the driver’s side snapped in half, resulting in the complete detachment of the wheel while the vehicle was in motion. The failed component is still in my possession and available for inspection upon request. This failure placed both my life and the lives of others at significant risk. The wheel detached while I was driving, which could have led to a catastrophic crash had it occurred at higher speeds or in heavier traffic. I was extremely fortunate that the failure occurred under conditions that allowed me to bring the vehicle to a stop without injury or collision. A suspension failure of this nature represents a critical safety hazard. The failure has been physically verified by both the service center where the vehicle was taken after the incident and by GM’s assigned third-party inspection service. A visual and mechanical inspection confirmed the fractured upper control arm and resulting suspension failure. A second opinion from an independent mechanic is being pursued as well. The vehicle was inspected by a third-party claims investigator assigned by GM, who reviewed the scene and the damage. I have not received a full report or documentation from GM or the inspector, but I am requesting it formally. The incident was also documented by my insurance provider. The police were not called, as there were no injuries or collision with another vehicle. There were no warning lights, messages, or error codes on the dashboard prior to the incident. I did not observe any unusual handling, noises, or vibrations that would have suggested an impending mechanical failure. The control arm failure occurred suddenly and without warning while driving under normal conditions.

My 2023 Cadillac Escalade is part of NHTSA Recall 25V274 involving a potential engine failure due to defective crankshaft or connecting rod components. It has now been over four months since this recall was issued, and there is still no remedy or parts available, according to both my dealership and GM customer service. This defect poses a serious safety risk, as sudden engine failure while driving can cause the vehicle to lose propulsion, potentially leading to a crash. I use this vehicle for business, so it’s driven frequently with passengers, increasing the danger and financial impact. Despite contacting the dealership regularly and calling GM directly, I’ve been told the same thing every time: the parts are not yet available and there is no fix yet. The vehicle has not been inspected, and I’ve received no alternative solution or loaner vehicle. I am concerned about the length of the delay and the risk to my safety and others on the road. I’m asking NHTSA to investigate and ensure that GM provides a timely resolution.

I was told of this recall. That my motor may just completely shut off at anytime and that I will hopefully be able to maneuver off of the road at that time. But Cadillac states they do not have a way to fix it at this time. IF something does happen, they will try. But only cars acting up are being looked at right now. Everyone else can just drive around and hope for the best. I’m scared to drive my car out of fear of it shutting down and causing me to get in an accident. I don’t want my family hurt, but I surely don’t want to hurt anyone else either. It’s unacceptable that there is no fix for such a serious issue and there isn’t even an estimate on when they will have a remedy, much less how long it will then take the dealership to do the repairs.

While driving, I got a message stating on the screen stating that transmission needed to be serviced. This was very scary as I slowed down and then was not able to put the vehicle in park and the parking brake was not able to be disengaged to be able to move the vehicle. After moving the transmission shifter back to different positions, I was then able to put the vehicle into Drive and then park it where it wouldn't move after that. Dealership now says that there is an issue with the transmission valve body that needs to be replaced.

ENGINE

In May 2023 I bought a new 2023 Cadillac Escalade (because the engine on my 2021 Tahoe was being replaced—NHTSA 11658068). After owning the Escalade just under a year I started noticing it making odd engine noises, most often at a cold startup. It sounded like a ticking or vibration and was pretty loud. On April 30, 2024 I took the Escalade to Blackstone Cadillac in Fresno CA where they found Cylinder 2 was misfiring. They said it was related to TSB #19-NA-218 and recommended an engine replacement, which they completed, and I picked it up May 22, 2024. The new engine runs rough, tons of vibration, and frequently struggles with the automatic start/stop function at red lights. It will shut off and start up immediately, or it won’t want to start back up at all. Due to these concerns I took it back to Blackstone Cadillac in October 2024. The mechanics put my Escalade side by side with another Escalade and listened to both engines and they said it sounded the same and couldn’t find anything wrong with it. My Escalade continues to run rough, odd vibrations and problems with automatic start/stop to this day. I just received the recall notice “N252494000 L87 engine loss of propulsion” for my Escalade and was notified that a remedy is not available. I called the dealership and they confirmed, there is currently no remedy available for the recall on my Escalade. I am worried and scared to drive it because I was stranded in the middle of a highway with the same L87 engine on my 2021 Tahoe (NHTSA 11658068). I don’t know what to do.

Driving with children on freeway after picking them up from school and suddenly the vehicle shut down completely nothing on dash neither. In the middle of freeway after doing 55 miles per hour was very scary for me and my family. Tried starting vehicle and would not start for 15 minutes. The next day took it to the dealer where I purchased it and was told it was 5 vehicles there before me that needed engine replacement and I might be the sixth. I was called the next day and was Told the service man took it for a spin and the engine completely seized on him and to find out it was the engine And other components. There were no warning before any of this happened it seems as if once you accelerate to about 50 to 60 mph it completely shuts down he said. My vehicle is currently at the Jim Riehl Cadillac in Clinton Twp Michigan and waiting for an engine to be replaced with other components I was told. [XXX] was the date of the occurrence and I was told also told they may need to keep my vehicle for 2 - 3 months for the replacement from the GM manufacture. I spoke to individuals at the Cadillac headquarters and everyone seems to act as if this is so brand new and not a huge issue and I’m the one that is paying these hefty monthly car notes on a vehicle that I only owned for 1 year and 6 months with 24,000 miles on it currently. My wife and I purchased a certified used Cadillac Escalade Sport Platinum with 36K miles on it from a reputable dealership near our home. After having the vehicle for less than a week, the engine just lost power suddenly and without notice while our entire family (3 kids) were on our way home. We were able to coast off the main highway and onto a crossing road before it glided to a stop in the middle of an intersection. We were able to get the vehicle towed back to the dealership where they are telling us it needs a replacement engine. I am very concerned with how the event unfolded, and it could have been much worse had it happened where we were not able to get off the road. I am happy GM and the dealership are working quickly to replace the engine, but now I have safety concerns and feel like the vehicle has lost some of its value. Even before I could re-title the vehicle or make our first payment on it. I am reading similar stories and am baffled how GM could produce an engine with such a widespread problem, especially when paying significant money for the vehicle.

After spending 3 months in Palm Desert CA, we were heading home to Colorado on Saturday [XXX]. Just a few miles east of Barstow CA, traveling about 70 mph on [XXX], our Escalade just died and shifted itself into neutral. Luckily we were able to guide the car on to the shoulder area. The experience was terrifying as we sat there for 4 hours……… speaking several times with both OnStar and Cadillac Roadside Assistance. A tow truck driver FINALLY arrived about 1:00 PM and took us and our Escalade to Victorville Cadillac where we arrived around 2:00 PM. Because it was Saturday afternoon, they would not be able to look at the car until Monday. We met with the General Manager, who provided us with a loaner car. The car was fully packed with our belongings and we were assured that the car would be secured on their lot. On Monday [XXX] at 11:05 AM, Jon Adams from the service department called Fred to say that the engine was blown and there were fragments in the oil pan. We headed to the dealership where we were for the next 4 hours. We were told that it could take several weeks for them to get a new engine delivered. We were over 900 miles from home and really had no other option than to buy another car from them. Of course, we had NO intention of trading in the Escalade as it we only had it for 1 year and 8 months AND only with 10,245 miles!! We were two mentally exhausted [XXX] who just wanted to get home!! The GM assured us that he would give us the full trade-in value of the Cadillac as if there we no engine issues. So, we purchased a 2024 Chevy Tahoe High Country in the amount of 91K. They gave us a trade price price of $81,550 for the Cadillac (we paid $110,775 on [XXX]) After spending 3 nights in Victorville, we headed home on 4/16/24. On 4/22/24 we requested a copy of the work order to submit to Cadillac only to find out that our Cadillac had already been repaired on 4/19 and on their lot for sale on 4/22 for $109,651! ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

While my wife was driving on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, her vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. Since there was no shoulder, she had to coast to find a safe place to pull over. All the dashboard lights came on, indicating what appeared to be an electrical issue. She attempted to restart the vehicle several times, but only received a message stating, “Battery low, needs charge.” She contacted OnStar, expecting prompt assistance, but the experience was far from what’s advertised. She waited a total of 45 minutes just to speak with someone, only to be transferred to another representative. Despite having paid for OnStar services when we purchased the vehicle, they refused to cover the towing charges because she was on a private highway, forcing her to pay out of pocket for a service we had already purchased. During this time, it was extremely cold and windy. My 5-year-old daughter and wife waited about an hour and a half for the tow truck to arrive, and then an additional two hours while the driver secured the vehicle onto the flatbed. Since the car was completely dead, they had no heat the entire time. When they stepped out of the car so the tow truck driver could load it, they discovered they couldn’t get back inside—the doors wouldn’t open due to the lack of power. This entire ordeal was not only frustrating but incredibly unsafe for them. Having the vehicle shut down without warning on a busy highway, especially with our young child in the car, was terrifying for them. After our vehicle was at the dealership for a week, we were informed that the engine needs to be replaced. We were shocked to learn that this is a common issue with GM’s 6.2 engines. To make matters worse, there is no estimated timeframe for the repair because the engine is on backorder. For reference, the truck only has 24,000 miles on it and has been exclusively serviced by authorized Cadillac dealers. This experience has been both disappointing and deeply concerning.

I own a 2023 Cadillac Escalade. I was traveling on Interstate 75 to Tampa from Naples on Wednesday evening (01/29/25) when, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the check engine warning light illuminated. My vehicle suddenly lost power in the middle of the interstate and decelerated quickly. Thankfully, I was able to safely maneuver my vehicle from the fast lane to the shoulder of the interstate. I tried to re-start my vehicle as speeding traffic zoomed passed me. I was stuck on the interstate and afraid to get out of my vehicle for fear of being struck in the darkness. There were no warnings. My vehicle just shut off. I had my vehicle towed to a local Cadillac dealership. The mechanic who diagnosed my vehicle determined the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The local dealership stated the replacement engine is on backorder, and it may take weeks before my vehicle can be repaired. I now have a rental vehicle while I await for my vehicle to be repaired. I had a 2023 Escalade that was purchased new and it had TWO motors seize up in it. I filed a separate complaint for the 1st one. This will have to do with the 2nd time. The 2nd motor that seized up happened also on vacation, with a trailer. These new 6.2’s don’t like a trailer or any type of load. We were NOT even at 1/2 of the max trailer amount. We have had the 6.2 engine for 12 plus years in different vehicles pulling the same trailer and never had an issue until this 23’. So we were traveling in the panhandle of OK, in July, not close to a town, doing 68 mph and a warning light came on for 5 seconds saying something about engine oil hot, we couldn’t even read it before it went away and the engine died. Doing 68mph down a highway pulling a trailer. We got it safely to the side of the road. I had to leave my husband and son on the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere, in the hot as hell Oklahoma panhandle to drive back to our hometown with the family that was traveling with us to get our truck. My husband and son had to wait for 4 hours on the side of the highway. It was super dangerous. Not close to a city, in July when it was super hot. There was not enough room in the car I road in for my son and my husband had to stay with all our stuff so it didn’t get stolen! It took me 4 hours to get back to them and the tow truck showed up at the same time as me…4 hours later. It was awful. And this was the 2nd time!!!! This 23’ Escalade now has it’s 3rd motor in it before 30K miles!

There was no shoulder, the side of the road was steep and muddy so my husband had to time it to get it in someone’s driveway safely. We were pulling a 14ft trailer. We were NOT close to the max weight, so that had nothing to do with it. How it happened was not safe at all. It was scary having that happen with no warning and we were not close to a city. We had to call family to come offload our car as we had suitcases for vacation. We also had to have another family member bring a truck to pull the trailer home. We lost days of vacation over this. The car was towed to our cadillac dealer and we were told it needed a new engine. Making another claim for the 2nd engine that failed in this same car.

On [XXX] My wife and son were driving down [XXX] in passing lane running 70mph and the suv just started slowing down and had no power at which she started panicking due to trying to get all the way over to median with no power. thank god they made it without getting hit. At this time we called dealership and explained issue and they told us the motor has locked up (very known issue) Fast forward until now january 19,2025 they have verified it is locked up and they can't get another motor and have no eta on new motor(motor on national back order) So now we're paying a car payment and a rental $2200 a month and they(cadillac) keep telling us they will get a loaner (after countless calls and hrs on phone)so were not having to pay for a rental but have yet to receive one. only thing we have received is a $100,000 vehicle broke down with no eta on repairs, a rental bill of $2200 a month, and a bunch of broken promises. very disappointed customer really thought cadillac was way better than this. [XXX] driving on the freeway in AZ when had the motor completely fail with only 10,000 miles on it putting my family in harms way at 70mpg trying to get to right side of the road during rush hour traffic with no power. Complete failure due to a lifter I was told by dealer 55days later it was fixed and have still issues. Currently doing a lemon law buyback that’s now over 90days with no responses from GM. Now having to take them to court to get rid of this unsafe vehicle. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

On Saturday, December 28, 2024 @ 1 PM while driving 70 mph on the I-10 freeway; the vehicle downshifted causing the engine RPM’s to increase. We had 15 seconds to make a decision as the vehicle shutdown immediately. On my driver’s side were 5-6 lanes of freeway with cars going 70 mph, while on the right-passenger side was Exit 73b called Waterman Ave. in San Bernardino, CA. We managed to park on a small strip dividing the 5-6 lanes and exit lane, as we couldn’t get over to the shoulder. In addition, the vehicle was stuck in Park and would not go into Neutral. The engine wouldn’t start. NO WARNING LIGHTS. Called 911 at 1:04 PM and asked for an officer to assist us because we were scared for our lives sitting on the freeway. We were worried someone would hit us from behind. About 1/2 hour after my 911 call an officer arrived. We told him what happened, and informed him we called AAA’s Roadside Assistance. The officer informed us that if there was a call, he would have to leave, and he was worried we’d get hit by drunk driver going 70 mph. Our vehicle was towed to Dutton Motor Company in Riverside, CA. • Engine failure possibly due to oversized lifter bores. Replace the engine to fix. • We had 15 seconds to stop suddenly going 70 mph, not on the shoulder of the I-10 freeway. Our safety was at risk so I called 911 asking for an officer. • Dealer told us the engine needs to be replaced. • Vehicle not inspected by police, insurance, just shop at dealership. • No warning lights. Absolutely nothing.

Engine failure at 29k. There were no signs of malfunction or warning. There were two incidents before Cadillac approved warranty for a new replacement engine. First incident I was passing a vehicle on a two lane road when I was mid past the car suddenly vehicle died electrical and all. Message came on saying to restart engine. Thankfully I coasted past the vehicle I was passing and onto the shoulder of the road. Vehicle would not restart and left us stranded for hours waiting on a tow company. Had it towed to Cadillac where they told me it was a faulty fuse that caused the failure and it was fixed and was a fluke. They got it running said no other issues were found and vehicle was good to go. I had it back for only a few days and my wife and I were on the way to a restaurant. I stopped at a red light, again no signs of malfunction, no warning lights etc. the vehicle just completely dies again. Would not restart and left us stranded in a busy intersection. Thankfully a state patrol was sitting at the light across from us and came to our assistance and called for a tow. This time at the dealership they said engine failed and needed replacement. Just got it back as of Jan 2025 after 3 months. We were extremely fortunate that both times my 1 year old was not in the vehicle with us and no accidents occurred. From my knowledge 3 other Escalades were at the dealership for the same reason as ours was. Extremely dangerous situations the vehicle put us in and disappointment from a 6 figure vehicle from a manufacturer known to be reliable. I’ve owned two prior generations of Escalades and multiple other GM vehicles never having any issues and put over or close to 100k miles on each of them. Note we bought this vehicle “used” around 10k on it when purchased so we were unable to file a lemon law claim against it. Thankfully it came with a 100k bumper to bumper warranty.
