2012 CADILLAC ESCALADE Complaints and Recall Information

The 2012 Cadillac Escalade has 0 complaints and 6 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to air bag inflator defects and ignition system malfunctions as indicated by recall information.

Six recalls affect multiple vehicle systems, primarily the ignition and passenger air bag inflator modules. The recalls address safety-critical components due to risks of engine stalling, loss of vehicle control, and air bag inflator explosions.

Recalls
  • Ignition system. Recall 14V827000 affects 84,192 vehicles. The ignition lock actuator may bind causing difficulty turning the key or the ignition to get stuck in "Start." This can cause sudden loss of engine, steering, and braking power and may prevent air bag deployment in a crash. Dealers will inspect and replace the ignition lock housing as needed at no charge.
  • Passenger air bag inflator (Zone A). Recall 21V051000 covers 284,645 vehicles registered in high-humidity states including AL, CA, and FL. The non-desiccated inflators may explode due to propellant degradation, sending metal fragments into the occupant compartment. GM will replace the inflator for free. No "Do Not Drive" advisory was issued.
  • Passenger air bag inflator (Zones A, B, C). Recall 21V054000 applies to 1,778,128 vehicles across various regions including the majority of the United States. Defective inflators contain phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate propellant that can degrade and explode in high humidity and temperature cycling conditions. Dealers will replace the inflators free of charge. No "Do Not Drive" advisory was issued.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs, safety defects, or unresolved recall issues should consider reviewing their rights under their state’s lemon law. Legal assistance may be available for vehicles with ongoing serious safety concerns or multiple recall repairs.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado HD, Silverado LD, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra LD, Sierra HD, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles.
