2020 CADILLAC ESCALADE ESV Complaints and Recall Information
The 2020 CADILLAC ESCALADE ESV has 5 complaints and 3 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners frequently report engine failure, including complete engine seizure and power loss. Other issues involve engine noise, misfiring, and persistent vibrations despite multiple repairs.
Common Issues
- Engine seizure. Several owners report catastrophic engine failure due to rod bearing wear, requiring full engine replacement.
- Complete engine failure. Engine stops suddenly while driving or fails to restart after stopping, leaving the vehicle inoperative.
- Engine knocking and chirping. Abnormal noises from the engine, including camshaft and coil chirps, often reported alongside cylinder misfires.
- Metal debris in oil. Some owners found metal particles in the engine oil, indicating internal engine damage.
- Persistent vibration issues. Vibrations continue despite multiple tire balances, alignments, brake replacements, and shock repairs.
- Engine power loss. Engine loses power without warning, including incidents at low speeds.
- Check engine light activation. Light illuminates unexpectedly at stops, followed by inability to restart the engine.
The vehicle has 3 recalls affecting the fuel system, tires, and potentially other components. These recalls address safety-related defects involving fuel pump pressure and tire integrity.
Recalls
- Fuel pump pressure regulator. Recall 19V837000 affects 502 vehicles. GM identified missing pressure regulators in the fuel pump that allow over-pressurization, risking cracks and fuel leaks. This could lead to fires if an ignition source is present. Dealers will replace the fuel pump free of charge. The recall began December 18, 2019. No "Do Not Drive" or "Park Outside" advisory issued.
- Tires over cured. Recall 21V115000 affects 33,838 vehicles. Tires cured too long during production may develop sidewall breaks or belt separations, causing sudden air loss or tread/belt loss which risks loss of vehicle control and crashes. Dealers will inspect and replace affected tires at no cost. The recall began March 22, 2021. No "Do Not Drive" or "Park Outside" advisory issued.
Owners facing repeated engine failures or unresolved recall repairs may want to explore their rights under state lemon laws. Consulting a consumer protection attorney familiar with motor vehicle cases could provide guidance on available options.

Knocking noise coming from engine. Chirp noise coming from camshaft, and coils. Cylinder 7 misfiring, metal found in oil. I took my car to the Dealer because of vibration. Replaced 4 tires, balanced and aligned front end, that did not fix the problem. I took it back to the dealer balanced again and repaired valve stem, that still did not fix the vibration. I took the vehicle to 2 other places, balanced the tires again, replaced rear brakes, rotors, shocks still did not fix the vibration. Took the vehicle back to the dealer again, they road force balanced the tires, that still did not fix the problem. I returned home and the next day started the vehicle and heard a bad noise. Towed it to the Dealer they diagnosed engine failure with no warning.

I learned that General Motors issued a voluntary recall for engine issues covering 2021 through 2024. I have a 2020 with the same exact engine problem. Basically, the engine completely failed when driving and now I'm stuck making payments on a car that is useless.
