2010 BUICK LUCERNE Complaints and Recall Information
The 2010 Buick Lucerne has 3 complaints and 2 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to fuse box overheating and melting wire connectors. There are reports of burning odors in the cabin and repeated failures related to electrical system malfunctions, including fuse box relay and fuel pump problems.
Common Issues
- Fuse box overheating. The fuse box gets hot and begins to melt, causing a burning odor inside the vehicle. Replacement parts may be difficult to obtain due to backorders.
- Melted wire connectors. Wire connectors under the back seat and on the fuse box have melted repeatedly even after replacements, creating safety concerns for the driver.
- Vehicle stalling and no-start conditions. The vehicle fails to start or stalls shortly after repairs such as fuel pump replacement. Issues with melted wire connectors contribute to these failures.
Two recalls affect the 2010 Buick Lucerne. The recalls address electrical system components and ignition switch issues with potential safety risks. Repairs involve securing wiring and modifying or adding parts to the ignition system to prevent unintended engine shutdowns or loss of power steering.
Recalls
- Starter/alternator cable. NHTSA recall 10V553000 affects 13,780 vehicles. The starter or alternator cable may contact the power steering return line, causing a fluid leak and potential engine compartment fire risk. Dealers will secure or reroute the cables free of charge. The recall began November 5, 2010.
- Ignition switch defect. NHTSA recall 14V355000 applies to over 3 million vehicles including 2010 Lucerne models. The ignition switch may move out of the run position due to key ring weight or jarring, disabling the engine and airbags. Dealers will install key rings and inserts or covers to prevent this issue free of charge. The recall started June 23, 2014.
Owners with multiple electrical system failures or unresolved recall repairs may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a consumer protection attorney can help evaluate these claims.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille, 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
Risk: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position will cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

We have a Buick Lucerne 2010. We went out it would not start. Tow it to dealership they replace the fuel pump. We did. Get it home next day it will not start again. Tow it to dealership again. This time they find melted wire connectors. Under back seat and on a fuse box. They replace them it starts and melt them again. This time they call to junk yards to get a used fuse box and connectors. Because of cost. The junk yards did tell them it's a known problem with these cars and they sell these fuse boxes and connectors sell as fast as they get them. We said no used parts on this car. Come to find out that GM now's about this problem. And has not done anything about it. They meaning GM. Has even put out papers on the internet as how to try and fix it. Such as cut the insulation around the fuse box.And even cutting the seat belt bracket. My wife drives this car everyday. Now she is afraid of it. Because if it happened once could it happen again. I don't now. I have drove GM's all my life but am not happy about this. What do I do. Please help. I am a retired firefighter and I do not want her to drive this car if it could catch fire.
