2023 BMW X7 Complaints and Recall Information

The 2023 BMW X7 has 4 complaints and 9 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the screen/display going blank while driving, causing safety concerns. Another complaint involves denial of service for an open brake system recall despite federal requirements for free repairs.

Common Issues

  • Display malfunction. The infotainment screen blanks out for up to 30 seconds during driving. Multiple software updates and screen replacements did not resolve the problem.
  • Unresolved repairs. Repeated trips to the dealership failed to fix the display issue, with owners driving for hours before the screen blanks again.
  • Recall service denial. An owner was denied free recall repair for the integrated brake system due to mileage exceeding the factory warranty by 100 miles. The dealer demanded $1900, including additional charges, contrary to federal recall repair laws.

There are 9 recalls regarding the 2023 BMW X7. They mainly involve the integrated brake system, electronic stability control, and visibility components like the sunroof and windshield. These recalls address potential brake assist loss, stability control failures, fire risks from exhaust and electrical issues, and sunroof safety.

Recalls

  • Integrated brake system (Recall 24V104000). Affects 266,716 vehicles. The system may malfunction causing loss of power brake assist and failure of ABS and DSC systems. This increases stopping distance and the risk of losing vehicle control. Dealers must replace the integrated brake system free of charge. Owner notification letters sent June-December 2024.
  • Integrated brake module update (Recall 24V739000). 11,579 vehicles affected. Previous repairs under recall 24V104000 require a new remedy for the same brake assist and stability control defects. Dealers replace the module free of charge. Interim notifications start November 2024.
  • Brake control module weld defect (Recall 24V697000). Affects 309 vehicles. Defective welds in the integrated brake control module servomotor can break, causing power brake assist and rear brake failure along with ABS and DSC loss. This defect increases crash risk. Replacements are free and owner letters mailed November 2024.
  • Catalytic converter fasteners (Recall 23V294000). Five vehicles affected. Improperly tightened fasteners may raise fire risk. Dealers replace gaskets and tighten fasteners at no cost. Notifications mailed June 2023.
  • Sunroof control unit programming (Recall 22V267000). Affects 61,221 vehicles. Incorrect programming can allow the sunroof to close when the key fob is not inside the vehicle, increasing injury risk. Dealers reprogram the control unit free of charge. Owner letters mailed June 2022.
  • Windshield bonding (Recall 22V820000). Forty-seven vehicles affected. Improper bonding may lead to water leaks and electrical short-circuits, increasing fire risk. Dealers inspect and reinstall windshields with new seals if needed, free of charge. Notifications mailed December 2022.

Owners who face repeated repairs or unresolved safety recalls on the 2023 BMW X7 may have legal rights under their state’s lemon law. Assistance may be available for those dealing with ongoing defects or recall compliance issues.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

We are the original Owner of a 2023 BMW X7 with 17,500 miles. The past 2+ months the screen/display will go blank for up to 30 seconds while driving the vehicle. Obviously this is a serious safety issue. We took the vehicle for service where it was originally purchased at BMW I will say, this issue is very disappointing, scary, and disturbing. The vehicle was originally brought into service on 7/3 and no resolution for the problem has been presented as of yet. According to the Service Advisor, multiple software updates have been applied and the screen/display has been replaced twice, still no resolution. Brought back into Dealership on 7/23/2025 for the same repeated and dangerous issue Brought back again on 8/3/2025 for the same repeated issue. We were promised it was fixed. Drove the car 4 hours, and once again the screen/display went blank.
