The 2013 BMW X6 has 0 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to safety systems and driveline components, according to recall data. No user-generated complaints have been recorded.

The vehicle has been subject to five recalls addressing various safety and mechanical concerns affecting steering, airbags, and driveline components.

Recalls
  • Power steering gear. NHTSA recall 12V267000 affects 2,642 vehicles due to a machining error that may cause power steering fluid leaks. Leaking fluid can spray onto hot exhaust parts increasing engine compartment fire risk. BMW will inspect and replace the steering gear if necessary at no cost. The recall began on July 20, 2012.
  • Passenger air bag inflator. Recall 19V017000 covers 83,016 vehicles. Propellant degradation in the passenger frontal air bag inflator may cause it to explode during deployment, sending sharp metal fragments that can cause serious injury or death. Owners are advised not to drive until repairs are completed. Dealers will replace the inflator free of charge. The recall started on March 14, 2019.
  • Front driveshaft universal joint. Recall 17V138000 includes 121,909 vehicles. Water and debris can enter the universal joint causing excessive wear and failure. A failed joint could result in loss of front-wheel drive and risk of crash. BMW will replace the driveshaft at no cost. Recall began April 18, 2017.
  • Passenger air bag inflator in hot/humid climates. Recall 18V030000 affects 41,808 vehicles registered in specified high-humidity states and territories. Similar to recall 19V017000, the inflator may explode during deployment causing injury or death. Owners should not drive these vehicles until repaired. BMW will replace the air bag module free of charge. The recall was expected to begin March 2018.
  • Driver air bag inflator replacement. Recall 20V017000 includes 59,965 vehicles equipped with interim Takata inflators. Exposure to humid and high-temperature conditions may degrade the propellant leading to an explosion hazard with potential for serious injury or death. BMW will replace the driver air bag inflator or the entire air bag assembly on X5/X6 models at no charge. The recall started March 11, 2020.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs, safety critical defects, or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting with a consumer protection attorney could provide guidance on possible remedies available for persistent or dangerous vehicle problems.
