2025 BMW X1 Complaints and Recall Information
The 2025 BMW X1 has 6 complaints and 3 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners frequently report issues with safety alerts, brake system failures, and dashboard malfunctions. Several complaints highlight problems with the forward collision mitigation system failing to brake and multiple instances of the dashboard screens going black while driving.
Common Issues- Tire pressure alerts. The vehicle only displays a vague "Check Tire Pressure" message without escalating warnings when tire pressure becomes dangerously low, creating a safety risk for drivers.
- Engine fire. A vehicle caught fire near the front passenger brake system while parked, leading to the entire vehicle burning before emergency responders extinguished the flames. The incident occurred at approximately 1,000 miles.
- Forward collision failure. The forward collision mitigation system failed to apply brakes in time, causing rear-end collisions despite claims that previous recall issues with the braking system were fixed in this model year.
- Dashboard screen blackouts. The LED screens, including the speedometer, went completely dark while driving on the highway, with warning lights illuminating incorrectly and inaccurate speed readings. The dashboard took 20 to 30 seconds to restart fully.
The 2025 BMW X1 has three recalls that affect the braking system, electronic stability control, and structural components. These recalls address safety-critical systems that impact vehicle control and passenger protection.
Recalls- Integrated Brake System. Recall 24V104000 affects 266,716 vehicles including 2025 BMW X1 models. The integrated brake system may malfunction, causing loss of power brake assist and inoperable ABS and DSC systems, increasing crash risk. Dealers will replace the integrated brake system free of charge. Owner notifications were sent between June and December 2024.
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Included in Recall 24V104000, the ESC system may fail due to the same integrated brake system defect, heightening loss of vehicle control risk. Repairs coincide with the brake system replacement through BMW dealers at no cost to owners.
- B-Pillar Structural Strength. Recall 24V829000 affects 3,312 units of the 2025 X1 xDrive28i and X1 M35i. The left and right B-Pillar reinforcement plates may have insufficient strength, reducing crash protection. Dealers will inspect and replace the affected B-Pillars free of charge. Owner notifications began mailing on May 7, 2025.
Owners dealing with repeated safety defects, unresolved recall issues, or ongoing repairs may have rights under their state’s lemon laws. Consulting with legal professionals experienced in consumer protection may provide guidance on these rights.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2025 X1 xDrive28i and X1 M35i vehicles. The left and right-side B-Pillar reinforcement plates may have been manufactured with insufficient structural strength.
Risk: A B-Pillar structure with reduced strength may not adequately protect passengers in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
BMW of North America, LLC. (BMW) is recalling certain 2023-2025 BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce vehicles. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models and model years. The integrated brake (IB) system may malfunction and result in a loss of power brake assist or cause the Antilock Brake (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) systems to not function properly.
Risk: A loss of power brake assist can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle. Additionally, malfunctioning ABS and/or DSC systems can cause a loss of vehicle control. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

I’ve had entertainment issues. This morning I was driving on a 65 MPH highway when the LED screens on the dashboard went completely black, including the driver side with the speedometer. After approximately 10 seconds the driver’s side came back on, but all of them are warning lights were illuminated. At the same time the LED screen with the entertainment system performed a restart which took approximately 20 to 30 seconds. The car is only two months old and I’ve had numerous problems. I was able to take a photo. In the photo, the driver side is back on but you can see all of the warning lights are lit up and not all information is provided on the screen. The speedometer in the picture says I’m going 39 miles an hour, but that is not true. I was going at least 50.

We had forward collision mitigation option on this vehicle but it didn't brake to stop. This caused to rear end a SUV infront on service road and causing big damage to both vehicles. There was a recall on previous year vehicles on the braking system but were told this was fixed in this 2025 model.

I was driving a BMW loaner vehicle provided by the dealership while my own car was being serviced. The tire pressure dropped to dangerously low levels, but the vehicle only displayed a vague “Check Tire Pressure” message. There was no urgent alert or clear warning that the vehicle was unsafe to drive, even as the tire reached dangerously low pressure. This lack of escalation poses a serious safety risk to drivers who may believe the message is routine or non-urgent. I had to swerve to avoid traffic and get myself and my kids out of oncoming traffic's way. I later confirmed with the dealership that this is the default behavior and that the vehicle does not provide a critical or emergency warning when tire pressure reaches hazardous levels. I believe this is a failure in the alerting design that could endanger drivers, and it should be reviewed by NHTSA for safety compliance.
