2006 BMW 750I Complaints and Recall Information

The 2006 BMW 750I has 0 complaints and 6 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to door latch malfunctions and transmission shift errors in certain configurations. Some recalls address safety and electronic control components affecting vehicle operation and occupant protection.

Six recalls have been issued covering electrical, transmission, door latch, and airbag sensor systems. These recalls involve software updates and hardware repairs aimed at reducing risks of rollaway incidents, door openings while driving, and airbag deployment failures.

Recalls
  • Electrical ignition switch. NHTSA recall 12V502000 affects 45,500 vehicles manufactured 2004-2008 with Comfort Access. Pressing the engine Start/Stop button multiple times can cause the transmission to shift to Neutral instead of Park. This may allow vehicle rollaway if unattended without the parking brake applied. BMW notified owners in November 2012 and repairs began March 2013.
  • Transmission control module. Also under recall 12V502000 for the same 45,500 vehicles, the electronic connection between gear shifter and transmission can cause unintended Neutral selection at engine shutdown. The rollaway risk remains if the parking brake is not engaged. Owners received notifications and free remedies starting March 2013.
  • Automatic transmission system. Included in recall 12V502000, the shift-by-wire system incorrectly shifts to Neutral in certain shutdown sequences. The recall covers the same affected vehicles and timing as above with free repair provided by BMW.
  • Door latches. Recall 12V504000 involves 7,485 2005-2007 vehicles with Comfort Access and Soft Close options. A software defect may cause doors to appear closed and latched when they are not, increasing risk of door opening in transit and occupant ejection. Software updates began December 2012 at no cost to owners.
  • Occupant classification sensor. Recall 13V564000 covers 76,565 vehicles including 2006-2007 750i sedans. The front passenger seat occupancy mat may crack due to fatigue, disabling airbag deployment in a crash. BMW sent interim owner notifications in January 2014 and finalized repairs with extended warranties when parts became available.
  • Door latch system. Recall 17V328000 impacts 45,484 2005-2008 7 Series vehicles with Comfort Access and Soft Close options. Door latch failure may cause unexpected door openings during driving. Dealers provide free latch system updates after owner notification starting February 2018.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs or unresolved recall issues related to safety defects should consider their rights under state lemon laws. Consulting a legal professional can help determine possible courses of action.

BMW is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 7-Series vehicles, equipped with both Comfort Access and Soft Close Automatic options, and manufactured August 23, 2004, through September 3, 2007. Due to a software problem, the doors may appear to be closed and latched, but, in fact, may inadvertently open.

Risk: The door may unexpectedly open due to road or driving conditions or occupant contact with the door. The sudden opening may result in occupant ejection or increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

BMW is recalling certain model year 2005-2008 7-Series vehicles, equipped with the Comfort Access option, and manufactured August 23, 2004, through July 24, 2008. The affected vehicles have an electronic key and an electronic connection between the gear shifter and the transmission (shift-by-wire) that automatically shifts the transmission to Park when the driver presses the Start/Stop button to shutdown the engine. If the driver presses the engine Start/Stop button 2 or 3 times within a short time interval, the system may shift the transmission to Neutral rather than Park. If using the electronic key (Comfort Access mode), there would be no protection from the ignition interlock that prevents key removal if the vehicle is not in Park.

Risk: If the driver exits the vehicle with the transmission in Neutral and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle may rollaway. Unattended rollaway incidents often result in a crash or cause injury to pedestrians attempting to stop or enter the vehicle or to other bystanders in the path of the vehicle.
