The 2018 BMW 330E has 3 complaints and 2 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with stalling during driving and abnormal engine noises coupled with warning lights. Some have encountered hesitation while driving at highway speeds, followed by a stall and an automatic restart.

Common Issues
  • Engine stalling. Multiple reports describe stalling while driving at 60 MPH, with the vehicle hesitating and then restarting on its own. One dealer diagnosis identified a starter replacement as necessary, but repairs were not made.
  • Abnormal engine noise. A complaint details an abnormal squealing sound from the engine compartment accompanied by the illumination of the check engine light. Despite dealer evaluation, no diagnosis or repair was performed.

Two recalls affect the 2018 BMW 330E, involving electrical equipment and engine components. These recalls address potential hazards related to charging cables and crankshaft sensors, impacting vehicle safety and drivability.

Recalls
  • Charging cable fault. NHTSA recall 18V652000 affects 3,501 vehicles including the 2018 BMW 330e iPerformance. Faulty capacitors in TurboCord Portable Chargers may fail, creating a shock hazard or risk of fire. BMW will inspect and replace the charging cable at no cost. The recall began February 22, 2019. There is no "Do Not Drive" or "Park Outside" advisory.
  • Crankshaft sensor defect. Recall 18V465000 covers 5,309 vehicles including the 2018 330e. Incorrect firmware on the crankshaft sensor can prevent proper processing of crankshaft input, causing stalling. BMW will replace the sensor for free. Owners facing repeated stalls, safety-related defects, or unresolved recall repairs may have rights under state lemon laws. Consulting a consumer protection attorney can help clarify possible claims based on individual circumstances.
