Non-desiccated driver frontal air bag inflators with phase stabilized ammonium nitrate may explode after long exposure to heat and humidity, risking serious injury or death. BMW will replace the driver air bag or inflator free of charge. The recall began March 11, 2020.
  • Battery cable connection. Recall 19V472000 affects 16,641 vehicles including the 2009 328XI. The positive battery cable at the fuse box terminal may degrade, causing intermittent electrical power loss. This could cause stalling and increase crash risk. Dealers will replace and secure the cable connector free of charge. The recall started August 14, 2019.
  • Heating and air conditioning wiring. NHTSA recall 17V676000 includes 702,965 vehicles across various 3 Series and M models, including the 2009 328XI. Overheating of wiring and electrical connectors in the HVAC system may cause melting and increase the risk of fire, including when the vehicle is parked. The original steering wheel may have been replaced with a sport or M-sport steering wheel equipped with an inflator that can explode during deployment.
