2016 BMW 328D Complaints and Recall Information
The 2016 BMW 328D has 0 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to fuel system components and drivetrain functionality, as reflected in the recall data.
There are five recalls affecting various systems including the fuel system, emission control, and drivetrain components. These recalls address defects that pose risks such as engine fire, engine stall, and loss of vehicle control.
Recalls- Fuel system - EGR cooler. NHTSA recall 21V907000 affects 50,404 vehicles. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler may leak coolant internally, mixing with diesel soot and potentially causing smoldering particles that melt the intake manifold. This defect increases the risk of fire. Dealers will replace the EGR cooler and inspect or replace the intake manifold as needed, free of charge.
- Fuel pump failure. Recall 21V586000 covers 11,216 vehicles. The high-pressure fuel pump can fail, causing engine stall while driving and raising crash risk. Dealers will replace the pump at no cost to owners.
- EGR valve cooler leak. Under recall 18V755000, 44,368 vehicles are affected. Internal leaks in the EGR cooler allow coolant and soot to mix, which may result in the intake manifold melting due to high temperatures. Dealers will inspect and replace the EGR cooler and intake manifold free of charge.
- Constant-velocity joint defect. Recall 20V185000 involves 8,536 vehicles. The joint transferring power between the transfer case and rear drive shaft may suffer damage, leading to loss of power to the rear wheels. This can impair vehicle control and lead to unintended rollaway if the parking brake is not engaged. Dealers will replace the joint and inspect or replace the transfer case as necessary, free of charge.
Owners with repeated repairs or unresolved safety recall issues might have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a consumer protection attorney or local agency may provide guidance on potential remedies.

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2014-2018 328d, 328d xDrive, X5 xDrive35d, 2014-2016 535d, 535d xDrive, 2015 740Ld xDrive, and 2015-2017 X3 xDrive28d vehicles. The high-pressure fuel pump may fail.
Risk: Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2013-2018 328d, 328d xDrive, 2014-2018 328d Sports Wagon, 328d xDrive Sports Wagon, 2014-2016 535d, 535d xDrive, 2015 740Ld xDrive, 2015-2017 X3 xDrive28d SAV, and 2014-2017 X5 xDrive35d SAV diesel vehicles equipped with an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) module with an integrated cooler. The EGR cooler may leak internally, causing coolant to mix with diesel engine soot, which could result in smoldering particles and a melting intake manifold.
Risk: A melting intake manifold increases the risk of a fire.

POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2013-2016 328d xDrive sedans and 2013-2015 328d xDrive station wagon vehicles. The constant-velocity joint which transfers power between the transfer case and the rear drive shaft, may become damaged, possibly resulting in loss of power to the rear wheels.
Risk: A loss of power to the rear wheels can affect vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the vehicle is parked after a loss of power to the rear wheels and the parking brake is not engaged, unintended rollaway can occur, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
2016 BMW 328D
44368 vehicles affected
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE)
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2013-2018 BMW 328d and 328d xDrive, 2014-2018 328d Sports Wagon and 328d xDrive Sports Wagon, 2014-2016 535d and 535d xDrive, 2015 740Ld xDrive, 2015-2017 X3 xDrive28d SAV and 2014-2017 X5 xDrive35d SAV vehicles equipped with an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) module with an integrated cooler. If the EGR cooler leaks internally, the coolant can mix with diesel engine soot. The high EGR temperatures may result in these particles possibly smoldering and melting the intake manifold.
Risk: The melting intake manifold can increase the risk of a fire.
