Recalls
  • Exterior lighting. Recall 11V438000 affects 241,000 vehicles and covers rear lamp functions such as tail lights, brake lights, and turn signals. Electrical resistance builds up causing intermittent operation, increasing the risk of crashes without warning. BMW notifies owners and covers free repairs.
  • Passenger air bag inflator rupture. Recall 13V172000 involves 43,204 vehicles. Excessive internal pressure in the passenger frontal air bag inflator can cause it to rupture during deployment, sending metal fragments into the vehicle cabin. Owners are advised not to drive until repairs occur. Repairs are free once parts are available.
  • Passenger air bag inflator rupture. Recall 14V428000 affects 574,007 vehicles and addresses the same defect as 13V172000 with inflator rupture risks from excessive internal pressure. Owners are advised not to drive until repair. Multiple notices have been sent and repairs are free of charge.
  • Driver air bag inflator rupture. Recall 15V318000 covers 419,235 vehicles with dual-stage driver frontal air bags susceptible to moisture intrusion causing rupture risk on deployment. Owners are advised not to drive until the air bag module is replaced. Repairs began in August 2016 and are free.
  • Passenger air bag inflator explosion risk. Recall 20V018000 affects 292,948 vehicles with Takata PSAN inflators used as interim replacements. Propellant degradation may cause inflator explosion projecting sharp metal fragments inside the vehicle, risking serious injury or death. BMW schedules free air bag replacements.

Owners of 2002 BMW 325I vehicles who encounter repeated repairs, unresolved recall notices, or safety system defects may want to explore their rights under state lemon laws.

These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

Risk: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TAIL LIGHTS

BMW IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2002-2005 325I, 325XI, 330I, AND 330XI VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 1, 2001, THROUGH MARCH 1, 2005.
