2013 AUTOCAR XPERT Complaints and Recall Information

The 2013 AUTOCAR XPERT has 0 complaints and 7 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to vehicle safety components including seats, seat belts, brakes, steering, suspension, and parking brakes. No individual consumer complaints have been recorded for this model year.

Seven recalls address various safety defects affecting multiple systems on the vehicle. These recalls cover seat and seat belt mounting, air brake functionality, steering column security, structural frame stability, suspension performance, and parking brake reliability.

Recalls
  • Seat mounting bolts. (NHTSA campaign 14V198000) A defect affects 207 vehicles manufactured between July 2011 and March 2014. Floor mats trapped between seat brackets and cab sheet metal can cause bolt torque to decrease, leading to loose seats. Loose seats increase injury risk in a crash. Dealers will fix the seat mounting free of charge.
  • Seat belt anchorage. (NHTSA campaign 14V133000) The same 207 vehicles have seat belt bolts that may not withstand crash forces. This shortcoming may allow the seat belt to fail in restraining the occupant, increasing injury risk. Dealers will tighten bolts at no charge.
  • Brake valve mounting. (NHTSA campaign 14V199000) The brake valve bolts could be improperly torqued on the same 207 vehicles, risking brake air pressure loss and potential crash. Dealers will correct the mounting free of charge.
  • Steering column bolts. (NHTSA campaign 14V200000) Bolts securing the steering column bracket on 207 vehicles may be too loose, possibly causing the steering column to come loose. A loose column impairs steering, risking a crash. Fixes are provided at no cost to owners.
  • Frame and suspension bounce. (NHTSA campaign 14V397000) Affecting 287 vehicles from 2012-2015 with a 164-inch wheelbase and sweeper body mounted with a gap. Excessive bouncing at speeds over 25 mph can cause loss of vehicle control and crash risk. The remedy is under development and owners have been notified.
  • Parking brake control valve. (NHTSA campaign 23V023000) A worn brake control valve on 11,353 vehicles between 2010 and 2020 can leak air, causing the parking brake to release unexpectedly and increase rollaway risk. Dealers will remove the vent line and fitting at no charge.

Owners facing multiple repairs for safety-related defects or unresolved recall issues may have protections under state lemon laws. Consultation with a legal professional experienced in consumer protection and lemon law claims is advisable.

PARKING BRAKE

Autocar, LLC (Autocar) is recalling certain 2012-2016 Xpert, 2010-2020 Xspotter, 2008-2020 Xpeditor, 2008-2010 WXLL and WX vehicles. A worn parking brake control valve can leak air into the vent line, creating excessive back pressure and causing the parking brake to release unexpectedly.

Risk: The unexpected release of the parking brake may allow the vehicle to rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash.

SUSPENSION

Autocar Industries, LLC (Autocar) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 Xpert trucks manufactured November 30, 2011, to November 5, 2014 and having a 164-inch wheelbase and a sweeper body which is mounted with a gap between the cab and the body (where optional equipment could be installed). When being driven at speeds above 25mph, the affected vehicles may have an unexpected bounce.

Risk: The unexpected bounce may cause the operator to lose control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

STEERING:COLUMN

Autocar Industries, LLC (Autocar) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Xpert vehicles manufactured July 11, 2011, through March 5, 2014. The bolts that secure the steering column mounting bracket could be below the required torque and possibly cause the steering column to come loose.

Risk: A loose steering column may make it difficult to steer the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR

Autocar Industries, LLC (Autocar) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Xpert vehicles manufactured July 11, 2011, through March 5, 2014. The bolts securing the brake valve to the cab may be below the required torque which could cause a failure in the connection of the airlines and the brake valve. Thus, the vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, "Air Brake Systems."

Risk: Low bolt torque may result in a loss of brake line air pressure, increasing the risk of a crash.

SEAT BELTS

Autocar Industries, LLC (Autocar) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Xpert vehicles manufactured July 11, 2011, through March 5, 2014. The bolts used to anchor the seat belts may be insufficiently tight to withstand the forces experienced in certain crashes. As such, these vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicles Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."

Risk: If the seat belt does not properly restrain the seat occupant, there is an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

SEATS

Autocar Industries, LLC (Autocar) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Xpert vehicles manufactured July 11, 2011, through March 5, 2014. During manufacturing, the floor mat may have been captured between the seat brackets and the cab sheet metal at all four connection points. This could cause the torque on the bolts to relax to below the required torque, allowing them to loosen. As such, these vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207, "Seating Systems."

Risk: Loose bolts may allow the seat to move in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant.
