2022 AUDI Q7 Complaints and Recall Information

The 2022 AUDI Q7 has 4 complaints and 1 recall filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report sudden braking events while using adaptive cruise control. These incidents occur when the vehicle incorrectly detects an obstruction in the lane ahead, causing unexpected and abrupt stops without warning indicators.

Common Issues
  • Sudden braking. The vehicle abruptly applies brakes while adaptive cruise control is active despite a clear lane ahead, creating a hazardous situation on highways.
  • False obstruction warnings. Dash displays a warning for obstructed pathway even when no obstacle is present, leading to improper system response.
  • Adaptive cruise control malfunction. The system triggers emergency stops multiple times without logged malfunctions or error messages for technicians to diagnose.
  • Dealer response problems. In at least one case, the dealer deemed the car unsafe to drive and held it for six weeks without resolving the safety issue.

There is 1 recall affecting the 2022 AUDI Q7 related to the rear visibility system. The issue impacts the rear-view camera and infotainment unit, potentially compromising driver visibility when reversing.

Recalls
  • Rear-view camera system. NHTSA recall number 21V825000 affects 2,857 vehicles including the 2022 Q7. A software error may prevent the rear-view image from initially displaying when reversing, reducing rear visibility and increasing crash risk. The fix involves a free update to the infotainment unit parameters. Owners were notified in November 2021, and there is no Do Not Drive or Park Outside advisory.

Owners facing repeated adaptive cruise control failures, sudden braking hazards, or unresolved recall repairs may want to explore their rights under state lemon laws. Persistent safety defects and dealer refusals to repair could qualify for lemon law protections.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2021 Audi A8 and S8, 2022 Audi A5 Sportback, A4 Sedan, E-Tron GT, Q3, Q5, RS6 Avant, A3 Sedan, S5 Sportback, Q5 Sportback, Q7, Q8, RSQ8, SQ7, SQ8, and S3 Sedan vehicles. A software error may prevent the rear-view image from initially displaying when the vehicle begins to reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Risk: A rear-view camera that does not display an image reduces the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

My car has suddenly tried to stop in the middle of an interstate highway. It happens when the adaptive cruise control is active. Even though the lane in front of the car is clear, a warning sign appears in the dash that the pathway is obstructed and the car tries to stop quickly. This has happened on this vehicle four times now. It happened on my previous Audi as well. At that time, the car was taken off the highway and the dealer would not return it to me for a period of six weeks. During this last incident, the dealer said that they searched the information in the car. I had provided the odometer reading and date to the dealer when it happened. I was told that there was no information found about any malfunction. Of course the car thinks that there is an obstruction there in front of me and thinks it is properly functioning and now error message is created. This creates an extreme hazard for accident on a busy highway. It is a recurring problem and should be investigated. I have uploaded a picture of the error message displayed in the instrument cluster. This is not a trivial problem.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

My wife was driving the car with the adaptive cruise control set at 72mph on 5/11/2025. The milage on the odometer was about 37165. A car was close behind when suddenly on of the systems in my car slammed on the brakes and attempted to stop the car. There were no warning indicators to suggest why this had happened. My last Audi, a 2020 A6, did this as well. It had a number of safety systems malfunctioning around the same time. At one time, I was told by the Audi dealer that the car was unsafe to be driven and it would not return the car to me. It was impounded for about six weeks as I recall. Whatever the reason, this is a serious safety issue when an vehicle suddenly tries to stop at that rate of speed on a highway with other vehicles on the road.
