2011 AUDI Q5 Complaints and Recall Information
The 2011 AUDI Q5 has 5 complaints and 6 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report the vehicle stopping randomly while driving, including on highways and interstates. Water leakage from the sunroof drainage system onto the passenger side has been reported, which may affect the airbags. Issues with door locking mechanisms and rust on the rear subframe have also been noted.
Common Issues- Engine stalling. Reports indicate the vehicle stops randomly while driving on highways and interstates without warning.
- Sunroof water leakage. Water from the sunroof drainage enters the interior, particularly on the passenger side, potentially impacting airbag function.
- Rear door lock failure. Rear driver side door does not unlock using keypad or inside unlock button and does not unlock properly when exiting.
- Subframe rust. Rust on the rear subframe causes state inspection failures despite regular maintenance and garage parking, with some corrosion present on the front subframe as well.
There are 6 recalls affecting various systems on the 2011 AUDI Q5. These involve fuel delivery components and multiple airbag inflators. The sunroof drainage system is linked to potential corrosion issues affecting the side head airbag inflator canister. The recalls collectively cover safety and fuel system defects.
Recalls- Fuel pump flange. (NHTSA 16V660000) About 143,214 vehicles affected due to risk of fuel leaks from cracked fuel pump flanges, which increases fire risk. Dealers inspect and replace flanges or install protective butyl rubber bands. Repairs are free.
- Driver airbag inflator rupture. (NHTSA 16V078000) 659,493 vehicles recalled because the driver frontal airbag inflator may rupture on deployment, sending metal fragments into occupants, with risk of serious injury or death. Inflators are replaced free of charge.
- Driver airbag inflator explosion. (NHTSA 18V082000) Affects 162,782 vehicles where the driver airbag inflator may explode on deployment, propelling metal fragments into the cabin with potential for serious injury or death. Inflators are replaced free of charge. This recall partially supersedes a prior airbag recall.
- Fuel pump flange rework. (NHTSA 18V818000) 5,987 vehicles with interim repairs involving butyl tape may still leak fuel. Dealers replace the fuel pump flange and install butyl tape, free of charge, to reduce fire risk.
- Side head airbag inflator corrosion. (NHTSA 17V001000) 234,057 vehicles affected where sunroof drainage may cause water to corrode the foam around the side head airbag inflator canister, risking inflator fracture without deployment and metal fragments causing serious injury. Dealers inspect and either coat or replace the inflator after foam removal, free of charge.
- Sunroof drainage system. (NHTSA 17V001000) This recall overlaps with the previous one, addressing water intrusion from the sunroof drainage leading to corrosion around the airbag inflator canister. The fix involves inspection and repair or replacement of affected components at no cost.
Owners with the 2011 AUDI Q5 facing repeated repairs, unresolved safety recalls, or ongoing vehicle defects may want to explore their rights under their state’s lemon law to determine potential options for relief.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2007-2012 Audi Q7 and 2009-2012 Audi Q5 vehicles, previously repaired under NHTSA recall 16V-660. These vehicles were previously repaired with an interim repair of installing butyl tape to the fuel pump flange, until replacement remedy parts became available.
Risk: The butyl tape may not prevent fuel from leaking. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

162782 vehicles affected
AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2006-2013 Audi A3, 2007-2009 A4 Cabriolet and S4 Cabriolet, 2008 RS4 Cabriolet, 2009-2012 Q5, and 2010-2012 Audi A5 Cabriolet and S5 Cabriolet vehicles. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to explode.
Risk: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could explode with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.

VISIBILITY:SUN/MOON ROOF ASSEMBLY
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2011-2017 Audi Q5 vehicles. The sunroof drainage system may allow water to soak into the foam surrounding the side head air bag inflator canister resulting in the corrosion of the canister. If this happens, the corrosion can weaken the canister and the inflator could fracture without air bag deployment, propelling fragments into the passenger compartment, striking and causing serious injury to vehicle occupants.
Risk: An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Golf, 2007-2010 Passat sedans and wagon, 2012-2014 Passat sedan and Eos, 2009-2014 CC, 2009-2012 Audi Q5, 2010-2012 S5 Cabriolet and 2010-2012 Audi A5 Cabriolet vehicles. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.
Risk: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2009-2012 Audi Q5, and 2007-2012 Audi Q7 vehicles equipped with gasoline engines. The fuel pump flange on the affected vehicles may crack, allowing fuel to leak.
Risk: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Audi q5 shows no recalls on my vehicle. My car stops randomly while driving even while being on highways and interstates. As well as the passenger side leaking due to sunroof drainage coming to the inside (which may affect the air bags). This Car has not had any repairs on recalls that I know of personally.
