2013 AUDI A4 ALLROAD Complaints and Recall Information

The 2013 AUDI A4 ALLROAD has 4 complaints and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report severe rusting and corrosion of the rear subframe caused by plastic covers that retain water and salt. One complaint also involves a fire originating from the engine compartment shortly after starting the vehicle.

  • Rear subframe corrosion. Plastic covers trap moisture and salt against the rear subframe, causing excessive rust and structural compromise.
  • Warranty disputes. Some owners report inconsistent responses from dealerships regarding coverage under the 12-year rust/corrosion warranty.
  • Hidden damage. Plastic covers conceal subframe corrosion, making detection difficult until the issue becomes severe.
  • Engine fire. A fire occurred shortly after starting the engine while the vehicle was occupied; the engine was destroyed and the vehicle deemed a total loss.

There are 4 recalls affecting various safety and engine systems. The recalls address issues with air bags, engine cooling pumps, and electrical connectors, all of which involve potential fire risks or decreased occupant safety.

  • Air bag control module. NHTSA Recall 14V667000 affects 101,938 vehicles. The air bag control module may fail to deploy front air bags during a secondary front impact if side air bags deploy first, increasing injury risk. Dealers will update the software free of charge.
  • Electric coolant pump (fire risk). NHTSA Recalls 17V002000 and 18V229000 affect 342,867 vehicles. The electric coolant pump can become blocked with debris or short-circuit due to moisture, increasing the risk of engine overheating and fire. Dealers will update software and replace pumps as needed at no cost.
  • Auxiliary heater wiring. NHTSA Recall 17V622000 affects 216,913 vehicles. Corroded electrical connectors may cause wires to overheat or melt, increasing fire risk. Dealers will replace the auxiliary heater and update software if necessary free of charge.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs, structural corrosion, fire incidents, or unresolved recall remedies may have rights under their state’s lemon law and should consider exploring their options.

AIR BAGS

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Audi A4 and S4 vehicles manufactured February 16, 2012, to October 21, 2014, and 2013-2015 Audi Allroad vehicles manufactured March 12, 2012, to October 21, 2014. Due to an improper algorithm in the air bag control module, if a crash necessitates deployment of the side air bags, a second impact to the front of the vehicle may not command the front air bags to also deploy.

Risk: If the front air bags do not deploy in the event of a secondary impact to the front of the vehicle, there is an increased risk of occupant injury.

SUSPENSION

Audi installed plastic covers over sections of the subframe on allroad, Q5 models, and other models. These covers held in water and salt causing severe rusting and corrosion of the rear subframe. Subframes of these models are seriously structurally compromised and also hidden from view due to these plastic covers. It’s seems Audi is repairing some under their 12 year rust/corrosion/penetration warranty, but the response varies based on dealership (some people are being told this warranty only applies to body panels, others are told that they are ineligible due to not regularly servicing their vehicles at the dealer). Many others are past the warranty timeline. This issue requires immediate attention and a full recall.
