2005 ACURA TSX Complaints and Recall Information

The 2005 ACURA TSX has 1 complaint and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report fluid leaks related to the power steering system. One complaint details power steering fluid leaking from a hose, leading to failure of the power steering assist without warning lights activating.

Common Issues

  • Power steering fluid leak. Fluid leaks from the power steering hose cause loss of power steering assist, impacting vehicle handling and control.

There are four recalls involving the 2005 ACURA TSX that affect steering components, the electrical system, engine control units, and accelerator pedal assemblies. These recalls address risks including fluid leaks that could cause fires, engine stalls due to corrosion of the ECU, and accelerator pedal binding that may prevent the engine from returning to idle quickly.

Recalls

  • Power steering hose. Recall 10V174000 affected 167,255 vehicles. Prolonged high under-hood temperatures cause premature deterioration and cracking of the power steering hose, leading to leaks. Leaked oil on the exhaust pipe can generate smoke, a burning smell, or under-hood fire. Repairs include hose replacement at no charge, starting May 28, 2010.
  • Electrical system and engine control unit. Recall 13V093000 affected 76,253 vehicles mostly in states using corrosive deicing chemicals. Corrosion of the ECU case from saturated carpeting may cause engine stalls, increasing crash risk. Dealers inspect and replace damaged ECUs and install waterproof covers free of charge since April 2013.
  • Accelerator pedal assembly. Recall 19E068000 involved 3,744 vehicles with Dorman replacement accelerator pedals. The rotating pedal portion may bind, preventing the engine from quickly returning to idle and raising crash risk. Owners receive free pedal assembly replacement since December 9, 2019.

Owners facing repeated repairs or unresolved recall issues related to safety-critical defects may have rights under state lemon laws. Consulting a consumer protection professional can help clarify eligibility for legal remedies based on repair history and outstanding recalls.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL

Dorman Products, Inc. (Dorman) is recalling certain Accelerator Pedal Assemblies part numbers 699-114 and 825-5029-1, sold as replacement parts for 2003-2006 Acura MDX, 2004-2008 Acura TL and TSX, 2003-2007 Honda Accord, 2005-2006 Honda CR-V, 2007-2011 Honda Element, 2005-2008 Honda Pilot and 2006-2014 Honda Ridgeline vehicles. The rotating portion of the accelerator pedal assembly may bind. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 124, "Accelerator Control Systems."

Risk: If the accelerator pedal binds, the engine may not quickly return to idle after the pedal is no longer pressed, increasing the risk of a crash.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Honda is recalling certain model year 2004-2008 Acura TSX vehicles originally sold in, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. In states that use corrosive materials for deicing, driver's footwear may bring in materials that saturate the vehicle's carpeting, which is in contact with the vehicle's engine Electronic Control Unit (ECU). As a result, the ECU case may experience rust or corrosion. This damage may potentially cause the engine to stall.

Risk: A vehicle stall increases the risk of a crash.

STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS

HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004 THROUGH 2008 ACURA TSX PASSENGER VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 25, 2002 AND FEBRUARY 13, 2008. PROLONGED HIGH UNDER HOOD TEMPERATURES MAY CAUSE THE POWER STEERING HOSE TO DETERIORATE PREMATURELY AND MAY CAUSE THE HOSE TO CRACK AND LEAK POWER STEERING OIL.

Risk: OIL LEAKING ONTO A HOT EXHAUST PIPE WILL GENERATE SMOKE AND A BURNING SMELL, AND COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN AN UNDER HOOD FIRE.
