2004 ACURA TSX Complaints and Recall Information

The 2004 ACURA TSX has 2 complaints and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report an abnormal clicking sound from the instrument cluster followed by the vehicle stalling upon deceleration. One complaint involves recurring stalling after recall repair, with the vehicle failing to start and requiring out-of-pocket diagnostic testing and repair.

Common Issues

  • Instrument cluster noise. Abnormal clicking sounds heard while driving at various speeds.
  • Recurring stalling. Vehicle stalls when decelerating to a stop, requiring neutral shift and restart to continue driving.
  • Post-recall failure. Vehicle fails to start after recall repairs were completed, leading to additional diagnostic and repair costs.

Four recalls affect several systems including steering, engine control, and accelerator pedal components. The recalls address risks such as power steering fluid leaks, engine stalling due to corrosion, and accelerator pedal binding, with free repairs provided by dealers or manufacturers.

Recalls

  • Power steering hose. NHTSA 10V174000 affected 167,255 vehicles due to premature deterioration causing possible fluid leaks on hot exhaust pipes, which may result in smoke, burning smell, or under hood fire. Dealers repair hose free of charge starting May 2010.
  • Electrical system corrosion. NHTSA 13V093000 affected 76,253 vehicles primarily in northern states where corrosive deicing materials rust the engine ECU case causing engine stalls, increasing crash risk. Dealers inspect and replace damaged ECU and install waterproof covers free of charge from April 2013.
  • Engine and engine cooling ECU damage. NHTSA 13V093000 overlaps with the electrical recall by addressing rust and corrosion of the ECU caused by saturated carpeting in affected states. Repairs include ECU replacement and waterproof cover installation free of charge.
  • Accelerator pedal assembly. NHTSA 19E068000 affected 3,744 vehicles due to binding that prevents the engine from quickly returning to idle, increasing crash risk. Dorman provides free pedal replacement through qualified service facilities since December 2019.

Owners with repeated repairs, safety defects, or unresolved recall issues may have rights under state lemon laws. Consulting with an attorney specializing in consumer protection and lemon law could provide guidance on available remedies.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL

Dorman Products, Inc. (Dorman) is recalling certain Accelerator Pedal Assemblies part numbers 699-114 and 825-5029-1, sold as replacement parts for 2003-2006 Acura MDX, 2004-2008 Acura TL and TSX, 2003-2007 Honda Accord, 2005-2006 Honda CR-V, 2007-2011 Honda Element, 2005-2008 Honda Pilot and 2006-2014 Honda Ridgeline vehicles. The rotating portion of the accelerator pedal assembly may bind. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 124, "Accelerator Control Systems."

Risk: If the accelerator pedal binds, the engine may not quickly return to idle after the pedal is no longer pressed, increasing the risk of a crash.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Honda is recalling certain model year 2004-2008 Acura TSX vehicles originally sold in, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. In states that use corrosive materials for deicing, driver's footwear may bring in materials that saturate the vehicle's carpeting, which is in contact with the vehicle's engine Electronic Control Unit (ECU). As a result, the ECU case may experience rust or corrosion. This damage may potentially cause the engine to stall.

Risk: A vehicle stall increases the risk of a crash.

STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS

HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004 THROUGH 2008 ACURA TSX PASSENGER VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 25, 2002 AND FEBRUARY 13, 2008. PROLONGED HIGH UNDER HOOD TEMPERATURES MAY CAUSE THE POWER STEERING HOSE TO DETERIORATE PREMATURELY AND MAY CAUSE THE HOSE TO CRACK AND LEAK POWER STEERING OIL.

Risk: OIL LEAKING ONTO A HOT EXHAUST PIPE WILL GENERATE SMOKE AND A BURNING SMELL, AND COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN AN UNDER HOOD FIRE.
