The 2020 ACURA TLX has 12 complaints and 74 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to recalls that remain unaddressed due to parts unavailability. Other common reports include engine stalling during acceleration, multiple warning messages on the dashboard, and safety system malfunctions.

Common Issues

  • Recall parts unavailable. Multiple owners report that parts needed for recall repairs, specifically for fuel system and engine cooling, were not available, causing significant delays in completing the recall work.
  • Engine stalling and rough idling. Owners describe the engine shutting down randomly when accelerating from stops or idling roughly, sometimes accompanied by multiple dashboard warnings.
  • Warning message cascade. Several safety system warnings appear simultaneously, including collision mitigation, hill start assist, blind spot info system, and road departure mitigation problems.
  • Connecting rod bearing failure. Some reports document engine failure due to connecting rod bearing wear, leading to engine replacement disputes with the manufacturer.
  • Tire detachment while driving. A front passenger side tire detached while the vehicle was traveling at highway speeds, causing loss of vehicle control and multiple safety system errors.
  • Electric parking brake issue. Complaints mention problems with the electric parking brake and emissions system, which are described as common among owners.
  • Unresolved recall status. At least one owner reports the recall repair being completed but the system still showing the recall as unrepaired, preventing necessary vehicle certification.
  • Safety system malfunctions. Owners report failures in multiple driver assistance systems including cruise control and collision mitigation, often concurrent with other mechanical faults.
  • Dealer repair concerns. Some owners report repairs performed by dealers but note persistent failures or additional issues such as cracked windshields after service.

The vehicle has 74 recalls affecting various components and systems, including engine mechanical parts, fuel system, and airbag sensors. These recalls address defects that pose risks of engine failure, stalling, unintended airbag deployment, and fuel pump malfunctions. Repair parts shortages have delayed some recalls.

Recalls

  • Engine connecting rod bearing. NHTSA Recall 23V751000 affects 248,999 vehicles including the 2020 TLX. POWER TRAIN

2 1/2 years before the current connecting rod bearing recall, my engine failed due to the connecting rod bearing at 53,000 miles. After fighting with Acura for almost a year, they agreed to replace the motor. However, when I picked it up, they had only rebuilt the motor. Now that motor's rod has failed at 68,000 miles and they refuse to replace the motor. They say it doesn't have anything to do with the connecting rod bearing but it is knocking with a thrown rod.
