2005 ACURA TL Complaints and Recall Information

The 2005 Acura TL has 4 complaints and 3 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report severe mechanical defects at the time of purchase, including hazardous leaks, broken suspension components, and disabled vehicle stability control. Several complaints highlight health and safety concerns due to toxic fumes entering the cabin and significant alignment issues causing dangerous driving conditions.

Common Issues
  • Mechanical defects at sale. Vehicles sold with holes in the oil tank, leaking battery acid, and broken control arms.
  • Brake system wear. Reports of worn-out rotors and brake pads, compromising stopping power.
  • Tire condition problems. Bale tires noted, increasing risk of loss of traction and accidents.
  • Vehicle stability control disabled. Safety system turned off, raising risk of loss of vehicle control.
  • Air conditioning failure. AC system not functioning in some vehicles.
  • Dashboard damage near airbag. Cracks located where the passenger airbag is installed, potentially affecting airbag deployment.
  • Severe alignment issues. Front end pulling hard during driving, causing safety and handling concerns.
  • Cabin air quality hazard. Toxic fumes entered the cockpit due to battery acid leakage and possible oil tank puncture, leading to illness in occupants.
  • Title acquisition problems. Delays and disputes obtaining vehicle titles after purchase led to customer frustration and legal concerns.
  • Dealership customer service issues. Reports of aggressive employee behavior, including yelling at customers and mechanics.

Three recalls affect the 2005 Acura TL, covering suspension, accelerator pedal assemblies, and driver air bag inflators. The defects involve critical safety components with potential risk of crashes and injury.

Recalls
  • Front suspension lower ball joint. NHTSA Recall 11E022000 affects 150 vehicles. Aftermarket ball joints mismatched to the vehicle may separate from the control arm, causing suspension collapse and crashes. Affinia will replace the part free of charge.
  • Accelerator pedal assembly. NHTSA Recall 19E068000 covers 3,744 vehicles. The pedal may bind, preventing quick engine return to idle and increasing crash risk. Replacement parts will be provided at no cost.
  • Driver air bag inflator. NHTSA Recall 19V182000 includes over 1.1 million vehicles. Inflators may explode upon deployment, sending metal fragments that could injure or kill occupants. Honda will replace inflators free of charge.

Owners facing repeated mechanical repairs, unresolved recall issues, or safety defects with their 2005 Acura TL may want to explore their rights under state lemon laws for potential remedies.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling specific 2003 Acura 3.2CL, 2013-2016 ILX, 2013-2014 ILX Hybrid, 2003-2006 MDX, 2007-2016 RDX, 2002-2003 3.2TL, 2004-2006, and 2009-2014 TL, 2010-2013 ZDX and 2001-2007 and 2009 Honda Accord, 2001-2005 Civic, 2003-2005 Civic Hybrid, 2001-2005 Civic GX NGV, 2002-2007 and 2010-2011 CR-V, 2003-2011 Element, 2007 Fit, 2002-2004 Odyssey, 2003-2008 Pilot, and 2006-2014 Ridgeline vehicles. The affected vehicles received a replacement driver air bag inflator as part of a previous Takata inflator recall remedy or a replacement driver air bag module containing the same inflator type as a service part. Due to a manufacturing error, in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver frontal air bag, these inflators may explode.

Risk: An explosion of an inflator within the driver frontal air bag module may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver, front seat passenger or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL

Dorman Products, Inc. (Dorman) is recalling certain Accelerator Pedal Assemblies part numbers 699-114 and 825-5029-1, sold as replacement parts for 2003-2006 Acura MDX, 2004-2008 Acura TL and TSX, 2003-2007 Honda Accord, 2005-2006 Honda CR-V, 2007-2011 Honda Element, 2005-2008 Honda Pilot and 2006-2014 Honda Ridgeline vehicles. The rotating portion of the accelerator pedal assembly may bind. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 124, "Accelerator Control Systems."

Risk: If the accelerator pedal binds, the engine may not quickly return to idle after the pedal is no longer pressed, increasing the risk of a crash.

SUSPENSION

My wife, [XXX] , purchased a 2005 Acura TL on [XXX]. The car was not inspected, it had a hole in the oil tank, was leaking battery acid, had broken control arms, wore out rotors, wore out brake pads, bald tires, Vehicle Stability Control disabled, no AC, cracked dashboard where the passenger air bag is located, and the alignment was so bad that the car would try to pull very hard off of the road. Toxic hot fumes entered the cockpit during my wife's drive home from the car dealership. The fumes made her feel sick and gave her a horrible headache because of the leaking battery acid and perhaps the hole in the oil tank. It's a health and safety issue that needs to be taken seriously. The used car dealership (Premium Auto Outlet Inc.) is selling vehicles to customers and are not providing them with the title. My wife paid in full, yet she had to fight to receive the title. The employees scream at there customers, including my wife and also tell them to leave the property when asking for the title and when confronted about vehicle mechanical issues. The female employee even screamed over the phone at our mechanic (Delran Auto Repair) who tried to tell the employee that the car was not is sellable condition due to the safety and mechanical problems. Please review the Google reviews and Facebook reviews for more horrible customer experiences when it comes vehicles being sold in horribly unsafe mechanical condition, withholding titles, unlawfully repossessing, screaming at customers and ignoring customer complaints. The best resolution for my wife and I would be for the dealership to pay for all of the repair bills that accrued (roughly $4K) due to the car being sold in unsafe condition and most importantly the prevention of any health and safety issues due to the selling of unsafe mechanically condition vehicles to future customers. Please investigate this issue for the health and safety of people. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
