On July 12, 2025 my husband, the driver, and myself, owner of the vehicle and passenger this day, were driving on the freeway at approximately 7:00am in the middle lanes of the freeway. Without any codes or warnings beforehand, we heard the car make alarming beeps and automatically loss all power to the engine while traveling at highway speeds. This situation put my husband and my lives at risk and in a dangerous situation as there was traffic on a busy freeway and lost all power to the vehicle and made even maneuvering off the freeway a dangerous action as we had no warning beforehand there was something wrong. My husband was able to get us safely out of harms way. After being diagnosed at a mechanic, it turns out this problem happened due to a cracked cylinder head and had no previous warnings of an issue and no warning lights on the vehicle alerting to a problem, I will have the cylinder head in my possession and the mechanic I took my vehicle stated it cannot be ruled out this could be a manufacturer’s or casting defect. I tried contacting Acura Corporation about this situation but was told that since I did not take it to a dealership and have a certified tech look at my vehicle, there will be no case and no type of remedy or reimbursement for this situation.

Purchased used 2019 RDX from Acura dealer in June 2025. Within the first 30 days of owning the RDX we noticed the Airbag Sensor for the front passenger seat would not recognize my 90 lb daughter seating in the seat and the air bag sensor would indicate the seat was empty, which would result in the airbag not deploying if we were in an accident. I took video of this happening and took my RDX into dealership for repair as we were still within the 30 day period for issues. The Acura dealership insisted they could not replicate the problem so it was fine. I again referred to the video and said we have seen proof of the issue. After much back and forth and the service manager telling me his large dog sometimes doesn't set off the sensor he agreed to call American Honda to send out an engineer to test. The engineer after running tests said seat is calibrated correctly no issue to fix, even if we wanted to pay to fix it ourselves they wouldn't fix the seat sensor because there is no issue to correct. I don't understand how a car that advertises a safety feature for anyone that weighs over 65lbs can expect me to continue to drive this vehicle when it has a proven faulty sensor. Obviously how they test the sensor is faulty as well. This is a huge safety issue for the 2019 RDX and a disappointing and shocking lack of response from Acura. We are now working to return the car to the dealership and I am sure we will have to fight to not pay extra costs that will occur with them buying it back.

I am writing to formally bring to your attention a recurring and concerning design issue with the Acura RDX involving the sunroof drainage system. This problem appears to stem from a flawed design in which the drainage channels frequently become clogged, leading to water accumulating and eventually leaking into the vehicle’s cabin and trunk areas. In my personal experience, this defect has resulted in persistent water intrusion that not only damages the interior but creates a serious risk for mold and mildew growth, along with unpleasant and unhealthy odors from sitting water. The accumulation of stagnant water inside a sealed vehicle presents a clear health and safety concern, particularly for families and daily commuters. The cost to have the drains professionally cleared at the dealership is approximately $300 per visit. I have been advised that this cleaning will be an ongoing necessity, despite the fact that this type of maintenance is not commonly expected of vehicle owners as part of standard upkeep. In comparison, this expense surpasses the cost of regular oil changes or tire rotations — yet it addresses a problem that stems from the car’s design rather than from use or neglect. I contacted both the dealership and Honda customer service and was told there is no permanent fix for this issue. The best they could offer was to cover 50% of the cost for a temporary solution — drain cleaning — which does nothing to resolve the root design flaw and will inevitably need to be repeated. As a consumer who has invested in a premium vehicle, I find this resolution to be unacceptable and financially burdensome. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this matter as a potential defect affecting vehicle safety and integrity. Given the number of similar complaints circulating in consumer forums and online reviews, it is clear that this is not an isolated incident, but rather a systemic problem that deserves further attention and possible action.

This safety issue is the sunroof glass. I was driving when the sunroof glass exploded and shattered, without warning. The sunroof itself and the shade underneath were both closed. The shade is the only thing that kept the shattered glass from falling into the vehicle and onto me. If the shade had been open, the glass would have fallen on to me and any passengers, possibly causing injury or death. The sound of the explosion alone is enough to cause panic, stress and impaired driving, putting everyone on the road in danger. The shattered glass was blowing off of the vehicle and onto other vehicles behind and those traveling the other lane. The past few days have been extremely hot. That is the only outlier that I can pin point, that may have caused stress to the sunroof. The vehicle sits under a carport at home and when I'm at work it is parked in an open parking lot. I was driving home from work after making a few stops, again, on an extremely hot day, Monday, June 24, 2025. There have been record-breaking heat days during this week. As I looked at the exploded sunroof, I can tell that the the glass exploded out/up instead of anything pushing the glass down. I did not call the police. I did call Honda/Acura customer service to file a complaint. I filed an insurance claim; which is still going to cost me $1,000.00 deductible to repair. My insurance has referred me to Safelite Solutions. The vehicle is available to view now and until it's able to be repaired; which I'm working on now.

Even after the tread came off, the tire stayed inflated. The tire had been on the vehilce for about 3 months with approximately 2000 miles on it. The police came to secure the scene while the Emergency Repair Service changed the tire. No police report was made and there were no injuries.

I was driving in a rainstorm with my windshield wipers on. The wipers spasmed and then stopped. I tried several things, but the wipers would not work and I had to have the car towed to the dealership because it was not safe to drive in the rain. The inspection indicates that the windshield wiper motor has to be replaced. I looked and saw that there are several notices about this issue on Acura RDXs in my year and it's clearly a safety issue as it stopped while I was driving in the rain.

On or about March 10, 2025, I brought my vehicle to Acura of Ocean in Ocean Township, NJ. My infotainment center was crackling continuously, and the screen was black, rendering my navigation system, radio, clock, and Apple CarPlay unusable. The constant crackling, with the screen downloading graphics, and various messages popping up, such as "check tuner" and "network connection lost," is a constant distraction and annoyance while driving. I have no choice but to use my iPhone, forcing me to take my eyes off the road. The dealer inspected the car and informed me that my amplifier and tuner had water damage from a leak on the tailgate top seal. I paid Acura $258.71 to have the seal replaced. I was told the seal caused the water damage and was given an estimate for $3339.09 to replace both components. I contacted Honda of America because I had learned of a recall of 2019 Acura RDXs for this precise problem. The case manager of Honda got back to me and informed me that Honda of America offered to pay all but $1366.93 to replace the components. I refused the offer because I do not see how I should be liable for any cost. It remains unclear why my VIN did not appear during the recall and why I received no notice of said recall. I strongly feel that Honda's offering me any money is an admission of responsibility/guilt for this problem. If there were no liability, Honda would have offered nothing. I hope to receive communication back from your agency advising what I should do in order to have Honda recognize and admit their error and make good on the repair. Thank you, and please help! On 12/21/24 I was driving down the mountain into town when I heard this very loud noise, like someone threw a baseball at my truck. I was startled and shaken up. Glanced in my rear view mirror and saw my rear windshield had exploded. When I was able to pull over to inspect it, the window imploded into the back of my truck. Drove directly to Safelite. Told to go through insurance which I did. Windshield repaired on 12/24, paid for by insurance. Found out in the meantime that Acura had an issue with 2019-2023 RDX exploding rear windshields due to a possible faulty rear defroster. I had just turned on my rear defroster before this happened to me. They issued a TSB to dealerships. I never got a recall. Contacted Acura for insurance reimbursement and wanted to have my electrical system checked at their expense. After several conversations, I was denied. Case was closed last week. Although my vehicle was a 2019, my vin was not included in campaign. I also was not privy to what the exact recall said as my vin was not included. I was told I should’ve brought it to a Honda dealer for inspection and repair. Why would I do that when I didn’t know there was an Acura issue? I live in the Adirondacks where it snows every day. Time was of the essence. Now I will not use my rear defroster in fear it may happen again. I also will not use my heated seats as I am afraid there is an electrical issue. I can live without the heated seats but driving without a rear defroster in the North Country is not exactly safe. I had asked for them to broaden their recall as it was obvious the same thing happened to my truck but was denied. I have googled and found there a quite a few people who this has happened to, one woman has it happen twice within three months. I feel this is an extremely dangerous issue that Acura will not take accountability for. I also have not had recall done as the nearest dealer is an hour away. Acura will not allow me have have it done by Honda dealer 20 min away.

November 2022, my rear window shattered while parked in my parents driveway. Did not know what happened so I called my insurance company (State Farm) they came out a few days later to replace it. I reported it to my dealership and they said they have never heard of that happening before. December 2024, my rear window shattered again while sitting in my garage, this time I called American Honda. I made a complaint with them and told them this has happened before and they need to correct it. They told me they have never heard of this happening and I needed to report it to my dealership. Again, I reported to the dealership and they told me the same thing. My insurance covered the cost of the repair twice. I'm following other Acura RDX owners who are having this same issue on Facebook. Honda needs to recall these cars because this is a safety issue that needs to be correct. There is also a class action lawsuit against American Honda.

Drove home with giant whole in back window about 8 miles and immediately put vehicle in garage. Called Acura Customer Relations was informed they have never heard of this happening received a case#. I went out to my car to leave work for lunch and discovered that my rear windshield had shattered between my arrival and leaving for lunch. I found out by closing my drivers' door and having a significant portion of the rear windshield fall into the back of the car, scattering glass everywhere. The entire rear glass was shattered and fell out of place with any movement of the car. There were no apparent cracks in the glass prior to shattering. The weather was unusually cold for this region, ranging between 16-22 degrees F when it shattered, and the car was parked in a parking deck, covered but exposed to the weather. Sky was clear and no rain/snow. I was on the 3rd level of the parking deck and backed into my space, facing the exterior of the deck, so no opportunity for a projectile to shatter the window.

Upon entering the vehicle while it was turned off, the rear window shattered unexpectedly when I closed the door, scattering pieces everywhere. If this had occurred while I was driving, the loud noise from the window breaking could have led to a serious accident. It startled me to the point where I ducked, as the sound was akin to a gunshot. This issue is reportedly common with the RDX, particularly the 2019 models. Unfortunately, the dealership informed me that it is not covered under warranty and there is no active recall. Due to the increased cost associated with my deductible, I opted for an aftermarket window installation. I am aware that a class action lawsuit is currently in progress regarding this matter, as well as Technical Service Bulletin 22-014, yet the dealership has declined to accept any responsibility.

Twice the back window on my 2019 Acura RDX has shattered in very cold temperatures. This happened in January 2022 and December 2024. The vehicle was parked both times. No warning just a loud boom noise. When getting in the car and gently closing the door after the glass shatters the glass fell into the back of the vehicle going everywhere. This is a major safety issue as the shattered glass can severely injure an adult/baby/pet. Twice this was replaced by my insurance company that I pay a pretty hefty premium on. I have been in contact with American Honda and they seem to be aware of the issue but only offer to possibly issue a onetime good faith reimbursement for one window which does not resolve this safety concern from happening over and over again. In 2022, the glass was replaced and the vehicle had to be taken to a body shop for the remaining glass to be vacuumed out and a solution applied to catch the remaining glass that rattled in the hatch. Only 90% was removed. In 2024 the glass was replaced 2 times as the first one was a defect and appeared wavy when driving. The glass went everywhere when being replaced all over my garage and driveway. The glass shop could only clean/vacuum so much. The glass continues to fall out of the tailgate when the hatch is opening/closing or when just pulling out of the driveway onto the road. When contacting American Honda they refused to pay for the tailgate to be vacuumed and solution applied and informed that I need to contact my local dealer. When I contacted my local Acura dealer they were willing to do the service but for a fee. American Honda currently has a class action lawsuit out of California for this issue. The only resolution is to replace the entire tailgate. Please take this into consideration and hold American Honda accountable for their actions of negligence in keeping their very loyal customers safe and demand they issue a recall for all vehicle owners as our safety depends on it.

My rear windshield glass shattered with no external impact traveling at 15 mph on a side street. The sound was very shocking and distracting. It sounded like a gunshot struck our vehicle. All the glass shattered and broke for no apparent reason. We had a pet in the back seat and were very distressed from this incident. I had to tape up the rear window with a garbage bag and duct tape in order to drive the vehicle, prevent glass from falling on the road behind me, rain damage, which then left me with no visibility and safety issue. No one was harmed fortunately but we had to then have window replaced/repaired by Safelite who advised us to look for a recall as they felt it was unusual and not common. When we notified Acura there was no recall for this issue. There were no warnings or messages prior to this failure. It was a shocking sudden experience! Now we have glass remnants that rattle within the back panel as they couldn’t fully be removed due to the construction of the vehicle. My vehicle is available for inspection if requested. I also have photos of the damage when it happened.
