2015 ACURA MDX Complaints and Recall Information
The 2015 ACURA MDX has 4 complaints and 44 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with lighting, sudden loss of motive power, automatic and unexpected braking, and paint peeling on the roof. Some owners also mention prior repairs and denied warranty coverage related to recall repairs.
Common Issues
- Loss of motive power. Vehicle stalls or shuts off unexpectedly while driving and fails to restart, with no failure duplicated at dealer inspection.
- Tailgate lid light failure. Tailgate lights cease functioning, sometimes after recall repairs, leading to police intervention and denied warranty coverage for repeated failures.
- Unintended automatic braking. Collision mitigation system activates without obstacles detected, applying severe braking at speeds between 30-40 mph and causing safety concerns.
- Paint peeling. White diamond pearl paint peels from the roof area.
Reports of defects have resulted in 44 recalls affecting various systems including collision avoidance, lighting, air conditioning, fuel system, and seat belts. These recalls cover millions of vehicles worldwide and address hazards such as unexpected braking, lighting failures, fuel leaks, and component corrosion.
Recalls
- Collision Mitigation Braking System. NHTSA Recall 15V301000 covers 19,502 vehicles and addresses erroneous emergency braking caused by the system mistaking roadside objects for obstacles, increasing crash risk. Dealers update CMBS software free of charge.
- Air Conditioning Compressor. Recall 15V417000 affects 106,439 vehicles with bolts that may corrode and break, potentially dropping the compressor clutch plate on the road. Dealers replace bolts and clutch plates at no cost.
- Seat Belts. Recall 14V639000 involves 43,481 vehicles with driver and front passenger seat belts that may fail to extend or retract in cold weather, increasing injury risk. Replacement belts are provided free.
- Tailgate Lid and Exterior Lighting. Recall 25V259000 impacts 152,800 vehicles where moisture intrusion causes various light failures, including taillights and license plate lights, reducing visibility and crash safety. Dealers inspect wiring, install fuse harnesses, and replace components as needed free of charge. This recall supersedes prior lighting recall 19V256000.
- Fuel Pump Module. Recall 23V858000 covers over 2.4 million vehicles including the 2015 MDX where the fuel pump may fail, causing engine stalls and increased crash risk. Fuel pump modules are replaced free of charge.
- Fuel Tank. Recall 16V417000 affects 39 vehicles with insufficient welds in fuel tanks that may leak fuel, creating fire hazards. Fuel tanks are replaced by dealers at no cost.
- Tailgate Lid Lights. Recall 19V256000 includes 322,897 vehicles with potential moisture intrusion causing taillight failures and reduced vehicle visibility. Repairs involve modifying lights and installing updated gaskets or replacing lid lights at no charge.
Owners with repeated repairs, unresolved recall defects, or safety-related issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting legal resources for possible consumer protection claims is recommended for those affected.
