2006 ACURA MDX Complaints and Recall Information
The 2006 ACURA MDX has 0 complaints and 10 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to the air bag inflators and braking system. Several recalls address safety components that affect the vehicle’s operation and risk of injury.
There are 10 recalls affecting multiple systems including the ignition switch, traction control system, braking control module, air bag inflators on both the driver and passenger side, and the accelerator pedal assembly. These recalls focus primarily on potential safety hazards that may increase the risk of crash or injury in certain conditions.
Recalls- Ignition switch. (12V573000) About 807,161 vehicles are affected by a defect where the interlock lever of the ignition switch may deform. This defect can allow the ignition key to be removed when the transmission is not in park, increasing the risk of vehicle rollaway and crash. Dealers will install an updated shift interlock lever at no cost.
- Traction control module. (13V092000) Affecting 183,576 vehicles, a damaged capacitor in the Vehicle Stability Assist control module may cause unintended brake application or abrupt stops without brake light activation. Dealers will install a wiring harness with a capacitor and adjust loose ground connections free of charge.
- Driver air bag inflator. (15V320000) Over 6.2 million vehicles are recalled due to a risk that the driver frontal air bag inflator may rupture during deployment, sending metal fragments that can cause serious injury or death. Replacement of the inflator is provided without charge.
- Driver air bag inflator. (19V499000) About 3,947 vehicles with replacement or service parts air bag inflators may have propellant degradation leading to explosion risk. Dealers will replace the inflators free of charge.
- Accelerator pedal assembly. (19E068000) Approximately 3,744 vehicles fitted with certain replacement accelerator pedals have a risk of pedal binding. This may cause the engine not to return to idle promptly, increasing crash risk. A free replacement is available.
- Driver air bag inflator. (19V182000) Over 1.1 million vehicles with replacement inflators assembled with a manufacturing error risk inflator explosion causing metal fragment injury. Dealers will replace these inflators free of charge.
- Passenger air bag inflator. (16V344000) Affecting 1.7 million vehicles in certain states with high humidity, passenger air bag inflators may rupture on deployment, causing metal fragment injuries. The remedy is inflator replacement at no cost.
- Passenger air bag inflator. (17V029000) Around 308,884 vehicles in specified regions have inflators prone to rupture from propellant degradation. Dealers will provide replacement inflators free of charge.
- Passenger air bag inflator. (19V501000) Approximately 1.65 million vehicles equipped with recalled remedy or service passenger air bag inflators may experience inflator explosion risk due to propellant degradation. Dealers will replace the inflators at no charge.
Owners with repeated repairs or unresolved issues related to these safety defects should consider their rights under state lemon laws. Consulting an attorney specialized in consumer protection may help address ongoing concerns with repairs or compliance with recall remedies.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE
Honda is recalling certain model year 2005 Pilot vehicles manufactured July 29, 2004, through August 29, 2005; model year 2005-2006 Acura MDX vehicles manufactured September 16, 2004, through September 22, 2005; and model year 2005 Acura RL vehicles manufactured March 1, 2004, through June 29, 2005. An electrical capacitor may have been damaged during the manufacturing of the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) control module causing intermittent, automatic, minor brake application. However, if the driver applies the brakes while the VSA is malfunctioning, the vehicle may come to an abrupt stop. Additionally, due to a loose ground connection, certain model year 2005 Pilots have a VSA system that may apply partial brake force, without the illumination of the brake lights, whether or not the driver is using the brakes.
Risk: Sudden inadvertent braking, especially without illumination of the brake lights, may increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
Honda is recalling certain model year 2003 and 2004 Pilot and Odyssey and 2003 through 2006 Acura MDX passenger vehicles manufactured from November 26, 2001, through August 30, 2006. The interlock lever of the ignition switch may deform, which can allow the interlock function of a vehicle with an automatic transmission to be defeated.
Risk: Removal of the ignition key when the gear selector of a vehicle with an automatic transmission has not been shifted to the park position can allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.
