2019 ACURA ILX Complaints and Recall Information

The 2019 ACURA ILX has 7 complaints and 72 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report intermittent brake failure where the brake pedal sinks to the floor on initial press without slowing the vehicle. Some also report the ADAS LKAS camera module failing under 100,000 miles, causing suspension of all ADAS functions until costly replacement and calibration are performed. There are also complaints of the vehicle stalling unexpectedly at driving speeds.

Common Issues
  • Brake failure. Brake pedal sinks to the floor on first press without slowing the car, requiring multiple pumps to stop the vehicle, posing a major safety concern.
  • ADAS camera failure. The LKAS camera module (36160-TX6-A03-M1) fails below 100,000 miles, disabling all ADAS functions until an $800 camera replacement plus $800 calibration are completed.
  • Engine stall. Vehicle decelerates and stalls while driving, sometimes requiring towing and no diagnosis or repair.
  • Fuel pump issues. Reports of fuel pump failure leading to engine stall under driving conditions, tied to recalls but specific failures still reported.

There are 72 recalls related to the 2019 ACURA ILX impacting multiple systems including the fuel system, drivetrain, and safety features. The recalls address issues from fuel pump failure to driveshaft detachment and fuel tank deformation, with repairs provided free of charge by dealers.

Recalls
  • Fuel pump failure. NHTSA recall 23V858000 affects 2,490,460 vehicles including the 2019 ILX. The fuel pump inside the tank may fail causing engine stall and crash risk. Dealers replace the fuel pump module at no cost. No Do Not Drive advisory.
  • Fuel tank deformation. Recall 19V052000 involves 4,455 ILX vehicles prone to a deformed fuel tank that can cause false fuel gauge readings and stalling risks. Dealers inspect and replace the tank as needed free of charge.
  • Fuel pump failure (low-pressure). Recall 21V215000 covers 624,552 vehicles including the 2019 ILX. The low-pressure fuel pump may fail causing engine stalls. Dealers replace the assembly free of charge.
  • Driveshaft separation. Recall 19V424000 affects 49,898 vehicles. Excess grease can prevent half shaft engagement, allowing driveshaft separation which may cause loss of drive or unintended vehicle movement. Dealers inspect and replace components as needed.

Owners coping with repeated brake failures, ADAS malfunctions, stalling, or unresolved recall repairs may have rights under their state lemon laws. Legal consultation can help clarify available remedies for persistent safety or reliability issues.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY

Acura (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Acura ILX vehicles. The vehicles may have a deformed fuel tank, raising the height of the fuel pump and allowing the fuel level float to stick, possibly causing the fuel gauge to display an inaccurate fuel level.

Risk: If the fuel gauge displays that the vehicle has more gas than it actually does, the vehicle may run out of gas and stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT

Acura (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Acura ILX vehicles. Excessive grease may prevent the set-ring on the half shaft from fully engaging, allowing the driveshaft to separate from the half shaft.

Risk: A separated driveshaft can cause the vehicle to have a loss of drive or allow the vehicle to move even while in Park, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

SERVICE BRAKES

Brakes sometimes do not work. Brake pedal is pressed down to the floor with no resistance sometimes. The brakes need to be pumped multiple times in order to stop. This is a huge safety concern and more more serious than any other recall that we’ve had on our vehicles.

SERVICE BRAKES

Reporting intermittent brake failure, where brake sank to the floor on the first press without any effect of slowing the vehicle. Fortunately, in each instance, on the second press the brakes functioned normally and slowed the vehicle, so no accident or injury occurred. The first incident was in May 2022 after driving over a speed bump -- at the time I assumed user error and did not report the incident. The brakes failed a second time in March 2025 when descending a hill at 35 mph, and a third time in April 2025 after U-turning on a hill at low speeds. At that time, I opted to tow the car to the dealer for a repair. The dealer found no brake issues on inspection/testing, but after finding another case report recommended replacing the master cylinder. Of note, this is similar to NHTSA recall 23V-458 for other Acura/Honda models from 2019/2020 where there were issues with the master cylinder, but the Acura ILX was not included. There was also a NHTSA Acura Service Bulletin 22-014 from 2022 advising of a search for Acura 2019 ILX vehicles with an intermittent brake issue. I have also attached my correspondence with Acura.
